In the back alleys, the lower part of the village, Kanami was walking around exploring the back streets.
He seems fascinated by the strange things in the shops. "There's so much merchandise here, I wonder what all these things are?" Kanami stares at a small shop selling magical items and asks, "What do these people do?" The shopkeeper replies, "Oh, you must be impressed, my boy. These are the best healing magical items you can find on the market. Boy, let this be a secret," the shopkeeper whispers, "those are made by Rion himself. They can heal even the impossible injuries."
Kanami looked at him, remembering, "Who is this Rion?" The shopkeeper shouted at Kanami, "What do you mean? Don't you know who President Rion, the Glory Phoenix, is? How could anyone living in Graveknight not know who Rion is? Ah, you see that building there in the middle of the village? The old one that's covered by the trees? That great hospital—Rion works there. He's the boss."
Kanami: "Oh, that's him. Of course I know, of course. Thanks for your time." Kanami walked away. "Graveknight? What a stupid name for a village." Kanami continued his way deeper and deeper into the back streets.
Then, out from nowhere, something pulls him into a tight place between the buildings. It was the same familiar girl he hated. Kanami yelled, "Can't you be more gentle next time, you old witch? You know we are humans. We can talk if you even call yourself one after everything you've done to me."
Mai said with anger, "Old witch? Is that how you say thank you to the one who saved your life?"
Kanami says, "With pleasure. My bad, let me do it right this time. Thank you for ruining my life, you old witch."
Mai said, "I won't argue with a child. Now just tomorrow pass your exam and we will meet again after you're done. Meet me after two days outside the village. I will find my way to you, and don't mess around too much. If you die and I'm not beside you, it's the end. You will die forever, so be careful."
Kanami asks, "Where have you been the last two days?"
mai: "Me? I was just here around. I don't want to be recognised. We will be in trouble if those hunters knew where we are or how we are now."
Kanami looks down with a sad sigh. "Yeah, I don't feel great to be hunted because you ended up kidnapping me, witch."
Mai didn't add anything for a couple of seconds.
"Take it easy, boy. You are still with me so don't worry. Here, let's go." Mai pulled Kanami's hand and dragged him to a close cafe.
They took a seat. Mai said, "One coffee, black coffee, and fresh juice please." Then, "So tell me, Kanami, what do you think of Graveknight? Isn't it a good village like the fantasies told in your world?"
Kanami: "It's pretty good actually. From outside it was kinda weird and gives that creepy feeling of mystery. I met someone named Simon. He's a nice guy. He owns a herbs shop close from here. When he first saw me I think he was thinking, 'Who's that poor boy?' and I could see the pity in his eyes."
"I mean, the clothes you gave me are so bad and you left me here with no money and even no place to stay. I slept on a roof last night." When the order was delivered, Mai started drinking her coffee, and Kanami was looking down at his juice, not even looking at Mai.
Mai said quietly, "I'm sorry."
Kanami: "Feel sorry or not, it won't change anything. Being sorry won't change that I'm homeless, hopeless, and getting hunted by creepy people because of you. People I never met are trying to kill me. It's all your fault."
Mai: "I didn't mean to do this."
Kanami: "I don't care. It's done. Don't try to fix something that you can't. I'm strong enough now. I can start a new life here, making new friends. It's life. I have to move on." Kanami drinks his juice. "Look, just don't mess things up more. I don't trust you."
Mai: "Whatever you say. I gave you enough money for a month and we will make plans on what's the next step. We will meet after two days outside. Take missions for the dungeons alone. I will meet you there." Then Mai left the coffee and left again.
Mai teleported away into her domain, feeling sad about what she had done, but she can't back up now or ever.
Later, Kanami found a cheap hotel in the lower part of Graveknight, and Mai didn't even give him enough money for a month. One night here costs one silver or ten copper. The money system here isn't very complicated. They use copper, silver, gold, and other values like crystals and other things. I have now 3 gold coins or 300 silver. It sounds like much because the cheap hotel I live in now—other hotels the night cost like 10 to 5 silver.
"The room here is small and bad quality. The bed is just fabric on the ground and the door barely locks if I don't use my power to lock it. I need to look for another hotel soon. I miss my room."
