Chapter 42 - It was me, Dio!

Jhin solemnly folded the paper Kazami Kazuki had given him, carefully placing it in his breast pocket. After a moment's thought, he decided that wasn't safe enough and took out his phone, slipping the paper into the case.

In front of everyone, he left a kiss on his sister's cheek. Jhin then departed with a determined expression, as if he had just received an incredibly difficult mission.

"Kazuki, what's written on that paper?"

It was the first time Suou Amane had seen Jhin be so cautious, so she couldn't help but be curious about the paper's contents.

Kazami Kazuki blinked her red eyes, feigning mystery. "You'll find out when the time comes."

"Aww, come on, tell me."

"How many times have I told you not to hug me like that? It's too hot."

Jhin returned to his rented apartment, took the paper out from his phone case, and spread it on the table as if he were examining a top-secret intelligence document.

"This is the schedule I've planned for you. As for the other three, I don't know their personalities very well, so I'll leave them to you to handle as you see fit. Do your best, little brother. Don't disappoint me, since I'm scheduled for the last day."

After reading the contents of the paper, Jhin was just short of shouting "Praise be to my sister!" in the middle of the night.

On it was a detailed analysis Kazami Kazuki had made of the Mihama Academy girls' individual personalities, complete with an attached dating schedule.

Where else could you find a sister who not only helps you build a harem but also writes the walkthrough for you? She was just one step short of going on the dates with the girls in your place.

I declare Kazami Kazuki the best in the world! Who agrees? Who objects?

I should get a photo of my sister tomorrow and frame it in my room, Jhin thought. He slipped the "walkthrough" back into his phone case and happily fell onto his bed, drifting off to sleep.

...

"Knock, knock, knock!"

Jhin woke up early and cooked some noodles. Then, carrying the steaming breakfast, he knocked on the door to Gabriel's home.

"Gabriel, I made you breakfast today. Want some?"

"Coming."

Judging by her voice, it seemed Gabriel hadn't stayed up all night gaming. Was it because she went home early to finish her online game's events?

The dark circles under Gabriel's eyes had faded a bit, confirming she hadn't pulled an all-nighter. However, her mood seemed a little down.

"Are you okay? You look unhappy."

Isn't it your fault for suddenly announcing you have a girlfriend in front of everyone?

Gabriel shot Jhin an annoyed glare, leaving him clueless.

Yesterday, Gabriel didn't even know how she got home or fell asleep. Seeing Hitori Gotoh throw herself into Jhin's arms and be acknowledged as his girlfriend... as his best friend, shouldn't she have been happy for him?

Gabriel couldn't understand why, instead of joy, she felt a sliver of jealousy, as if her favorite toy had been snatched away. That spot in his arms was supposed to be where she belonged during their playful squabbles.

Jhin placed the bowl he was holding on a cabinet in Gabriel's entryway, then raised his hand and gently ran his fingers through her messy blonde hair. "Sorry for dragging you out and making you do something you're not used to."

This was a method Jhin had gradually discovered over their long time together to soothe Gabriel.

If he patted her head, she'd think he was mocking her height and get angry, looking just like a flustered golden kitten.

But if he helped comb her hair, Gabriel was more than happy to accept. After all, she hadn't bothered much with her hairstyle since her fall from grace. However her hair looked when she woke up was how it would stay for the rest of the day.

Moreover, she thoroughly enjoyed the sensation of Jhin meticulously and gently untangling the knots in her hair. The inadvertent touch of his fingertips felt like a faint electric current passing through, making her feel a pleasant tingle inside.

"As long as you know. You have to play games with me today, too!"

Gabriel let out a contented sound like a little pig's oink, and the tangled mess of emotions in her heart was smoothed out along with her hair by Jhin's actions.

I'm just not used to the idea that Jhin will have less time to play games with me in the future. It's no big deal. I live right next door, don't I?

If Raphiel knew what Gabriel was thinking right now, she would probably call the game company and say: "What kind of game is this? This game of yours is corrupting people!"

"Alright, hurry up and eat the noodles. Even if you're an angel, you should stay up late less often..."

Jhin nagged like a doting mother. Gabriel took a sip of the noodle soup, and a warm current seemed to flow down her throat and straight into her heart. A smile appeared in her violet eyes, but it was hidden by the rising steam.

"I have some business at school. I'll play games with you when I get back."

"Got it. Go on, go on. I haven't finished my daily quests in the online game yet."

As soon as she finished eating, Gabriel started shooing him away, shoving the bowl and chopsticks into Jhin's hands and pushing him out the door. However, the unconcealable smile at the corners of her eyes betrayed the joy in her heart.

...

Jhin arrived at the entrance of the Problem Child Countermeasures Club. Pushing the door open, he was surprised to see a figure completely shrouded in holy light.

Jhin asked tentatively, "B-Boss?"

"Ah, you're here, my excellent employee."

The figure turned around, still a being of holy light... Although it was impossible to tell if this was Its front, It had turned for Jhin nonetheless.

"You handled this problem well."

"It was my duty, my duty. Why did you come to see me in person? It's not another big problem, is it?"

The deity saw through Jhin's little worries and offered him some reassurance: "Don't worry, there won't be any more punishments like 'destroy the world if the fusion fails' in the future. Well... probably..."

"My colleagues and I have already adjusted the problem parameters. Even if issues arise later, they won't be as severe as this time. You can rest assured."

Since his direct superior had said so, Jhin could only accept the empty promise. After all, if the sky were to fall, the tall ones would hold it up. "Understood. Is there anything else I need to be aware of?"

"Let Me think... Ah, right. My old colleague is urging you to hurry up and correct Gabriel. Everyone knows that kid's fallen destiny is as rigid as a divine throne. But you don't need to rush this. Take your time. The current project isn't finished yet anyway, so he can't spare the time to come find you."

"Boss, if I may be so bold to ask, is the colleague you're referring to the 'God' that Gabriel and the others talk about?"

The holy figure waved its hand in denial. "No. Just think of us as world creators. We call all intelligent life in the worlds we create 'children'. Gabriel... you can just consider her one of the more favored children."

"This whole mess happened because we wanted to create a project for interconnected worlds to communicate with each other. This world adjustment has allowed many of my colleagues to see your excellent performance. Keep it up, and you will be handsomely rewarded."

"Uh... thank you, Boss."

"Alright, the time I made an excuse for to slack off is almost up. That's all." As soon as the words were spoken, the deity vanished from the Problem Child Countermeasures Club, apparently returning to work.

So even gods slack off? Jhin thought his boss was surprisingly down-to-earth.

He had accepted the promise and received the praise. Now it was time for the main event.

Jhin pressed the "Claim" button, rubbing his hands in anticipation. Unlike when he drew the Star Deck, the points of light this time were exceptionally numerous, nearly filling the entire Problem Child Countermeasures Club.

Fortunately, the points of light didn't escape. Sensing the room could no longer hold them, they began to condense, gradually converging into a human-like shape.

Jhin stared, dumbfounded, at the girl before him, who had a pair of slightly transparent, rainbow-hued fairy wings.

Her sea-blue hair was styled in twin tails, with two wing-like objects extending from behind her hair near her ears. Her somewhat childish face, combined with the large collar around her neck, gave off a rather criminal vibe.

She wore a white uniform with black, circuit-like stripes. Pristine white boots encased her slender legs, which were clad in black stockings. At the very top, where the stockings squeezed her thighs, garter straps clipped onto the white edges and extended upward.

She knelt on one knee before Jhin and said in a reverent tone, "I am the Universal Angel for Electronic Warfare, β Nymph, created by Synapse. By order of Lord Daedalus, I have come to serve my Master."

"Imprinting, commence." The chain on Nymph's collar glowed faintly and instantly coiled around Jhin's right hand like a snake. This was the unique master-recognition ceremony for the Universal Angels; it was complete once the chain was wrapped around the hand.

If Jhin hadn't realized what was happening, he would have watched the anime Heaven's Lost Property for nothing. A grin split his face from ear to ear. He never expected to draw Nymph as his reward. Now, in terms of technology, there was nothing in the current world that could compete with him.

Nymph could effortlessly crush all the advanced technology of this world. Fortunately, Jhin had no ambitions to conquer it. With Nymph, he decided to move up his plans to establish a record label for Kessoku Band.

Although using Nymph to manage a small company was certainly a case of using a cannon to shoot a mosquito.

"Nymph, did you say Daedalus sent you? What about that... that Master of the Sky?"

"Master, there is no being on Synapse known as the Master of the Sky."

"I see. What about Minos?"

"He is not there either."

Only then did Jhin relax. If that Master of the Sky existed, he would have had to find a chance to kill him sooner or later. That son of a bitch. It would be hard to quell the hatred in his heart without torturing him to death.

Calming the anger in his heart, Jhin ruffled Nymph's hair under her puzzled gaze, then took out the item known as the Star Deck.

Brilliant golden points of light continuously gathered on a blank card, sketching out a muscular figure. It was golden all over, secured with thick, puffy, ribbed straps from the back of its waist to the front of its shoulders. It had green heart-shaped decorations on its chin, abdomen, and knees.

"The World!"

The card shattered at the call, and the figure on it transformed into a Stand-like energy form, floating behind Jhin.

A phantom image of Dio Brando laughing with wicked arrogance flashed by, and Jhin frantically patted himself down all over.

Thankfully, his clothes were still the same as before.

He wouldn't dare wear that trendy outfit of a black bodysuit under a yellow leather jacket, like some flamboyant Egyptian. Fortunately, this time he had only drawn the Stand ability; Jhin's own body was still that of a normal human. If he had drawn the vampire ability, he probably would have really had to wear DIO's signature outfit.
