Chapter 2 - Prizes

Leif rubbed his hands with a mix of nervousness and anticipation.

"Okay… before anything else, you have to be clean, relaxed, and with your head in the right place."

It was a strange habit he had adopted after reading too many fanfics, maybe it did not help at all, but it gave him a certain calm, and in this world full of everything, that was already something.

What if this time luck was on his side?

What if he stopped being the guy who survived by miracle and became someone with a little advantage?

With that hope in his chest, he went into the bathroom and turned on the shower.

The hot water fell over his body and he stayed there for a while, letting the steam clear his mind. He scrubbed himself with energy, as if he wanted to wash off all the bad vibes.

When he finally came out, he dried himself, put on a freshly washed black pajama, and returned to his room.

He dropped into the chair, took a deep breath, and placed his hands on the desk.

His heart was still pounding against his chest. He could try to calm down, but every time he thought about the draw he felt the adrenaline rushing through his blood.

This world really was not a joke.

It was not just a weird place: it was a collection of nightmares.

Pennywise, Jason, Freddy…

He could run into any of them at the worst moment.

And he was not going to end up dragged through a sewer grate or cut open inside a dream. If he wanted to survive, he needed power.

He needed something that put him one step ahead.

[Name: Leif Connor]

[Main mission: ???]

[Backpack: Ebony and Ivory, Pure silver cross]

"It is now."

He extended his finger and left it suspended for a second over the button for the basic draw.

He finally pressed the button firmly.

Ding

The panel glowed and immediately transformed into a kind of pixelated slot machine, the style an old arcade video game would have.

The reels began spinning at a ridiculous speed, showing flashes of unknown icons.

Without taking his eyes off the slot machine, he felt the pulse in his temples, his heart stuck in his throat, and a bead of sweat sliding down his neck.

"Come on… come on, give me something decent, please…"

The first box stopped.

[Item: Tissues x1 pack]

"What the…?"

The disappointment hit him like a bucket of cold water.

Seriously?

Seriously we are starting like this?! Are you kidding me?

Of course you are.

Before he could finish being offended, the second box stopped.

[Item: Magnum XL Condoms x1 box (strawberry flavor)]

His eyelid twitched.

And what the hell is this…?

Did the system think he had time for that?

He lived every day afraid that a psychopathic clown would drag him into a sewer. At what moment was he supposed to get romantic?

The third box stopped immediately.

[Item: Black Fishnet Stockings x1]

"..."

He was completely speechless.

Pure and absolute silence.

Fishnet stockings… Fishnet stockings…

He felt the pressure shoot to his brain.

"Great… tissues, condoms, and fishnet stockings… I see clearly that the system either has a weird fetish or I have very bad luck."

The coins hurt him in the soul and there were still boxes left to spin.

The fourth box glowed with a white flash before stopping.

[Skill: Holy Light Effect (Initial level)]

[Holy Light Effect]: Your body emits a white halo that looks very holy, but is absolutely useless.

"..."

Perfect.

Now I am just as useless, but with visual effects… WHAT THE HELL.

He no longer expected anything at all. He was resigned.

The fifth box stopped.

[Item: Pure silver cross x1]

That one made him raise an eyebrow.

"Well… now this is something else."

It was not a miracle, but at least it was useful. He already had one, and a second one never hurt. He could use it as a weapon or as backup if something attacked him at night.

His mood lifted a couple of points.

The sixth box stopped.

[Skill: Charisma +1]

Now he straightened up.

"... this is useful."

In a world where appearance could save you or condemn you, one more point of charisma could open doors, convince people, or keep someone from becoming too suspicious of him.

It was little, yes, but after tissues and fishnet stockings, this was almost a victory.

The seventh box stopped with a soft green glow, different from the previous ones.

[Skill: Purification]

[Purification]: What do you want to purify?

Leif opened his eyes as if he had seen a hundred dollar bill stuck to the windshield.

"Okay… this is good."

In a world infested with spirits, demons, killers, and creatures, a purification skill was not just useful: it was almost a divine weapon.

He felt his mood rise again like a wave of renewed energy.

He took a deep breath and fixed his eyes on the three boxes that were still spinning.

The eighth box stopped in an explosion of colorful lights.

[Item: Gastronomic tablecloth x1]

[Gastronomic tablecloth]: When you say the name of any dish, it will appear served on the tablecloth.

Leif blinked.

"…You have got to be kidding me."

A magic tablecloth that gave infinite food.

Not just any food, any dish.

"I am rich…" he murmured, incredulous. "Truly rich."

And it was not even a joke.

But the ninth box glowed even brighter, as if it knew something serious was coming.

[Item: Ox Talisman x1]

[Ox Talisman]: One of the twelve talismans, and whoever possesses it gains super strength.

His mind went boom.

"The Ox Talisman…" his voice cracked a little. "The Talisman of the damn Ox!"

His heart was beating so hard it felt like it was vibrating inside his chest. His skin tingled.

He brought a hand to his forehead, trying to take it in.

Real super strength.

He looked at the last box. He was already satisfied. Even if that last one spun and gave him a rock, he had gained more than he ever imagined.

But the system had other plans.

When the tenth box stopped, it burst into a golden brilliance so intense it illuminated the entire room.

When the light faded, he saw it: an orange glass sphere with a red star inside.

[Item: One star sphere x1]

[One star sphere]: A Dragon Ball from another reality. Gather all seven and you can summon the dragon to ask for any wish (more or less).

Leif was stunned.

He looked at the sphere. He looked at the talisman. He looked at the gastronomic tablecloth.

And finally, he pinched his thigh with all his strength.

"Ah—!"

It hurt for real.

"I am not dreaming! This is real!"

A laugh escaped him from the deepest part of his being.

"Hahahahaha! This cannot be!"

He was euphoric.

He wanted to test everything right that instant.

He looked at his bed, grabbed the edges, and lifted it without the slightest effort, as if it were a box of empty shoes. His breathing hitched, not from exhaustion but from excitement.

"Real super strength… holy God."

He activated the Holy Light skill. A warm golden glow surrounded his body, faint but incredibly eye catching.

"Okay… visually this is insane. Useless, but it looks amazing."

As for purification… he would save that for later.

Especially because his sister had been acting strange lately.
