Seeing Matt and T.K. on the brink, that beam of light shot into Garurumon's body. Garurumon shuddered as if jolted by electricity. Sensing something, Myotismon glanced his way.
Matt's Digivice lit up—the light passed through his Crest and bathed Garurumon where he lay.
"Garurumon, digivolve to… WereGarurumon!"
He became a bipedal, wolf-man Digimon. Walking on two legs cost him some speed, but his offense and defense surged, making him a tactical shock trooper. Inheriting Garurumon's powerful legs, WereGarurumon's kicks are especially fierce, and his leaps are among the best. His signature move is "Kaiser Nail," tearing foes apart with razor claws.
With a mighty leap, WereGarurumon dropped between Myotismon and Matt. "Kaiser Nail!"
His flashing claws collided with Myotismon's bat-shaped shadow blast—the impact blazed. WereGarurumon staggered back several paces, but he'd stopped the attack.
Matt opened his eyes to the tall figure shielding him. "WereGarurumon? Garurumon evolved!"
Myotismon's face darkened as he stared at the guardian before Matt. Then he smiled. "You think a little evolution is enough to defeat me? How childish."
"Try me," WereGarurumon growled, springing for him. One leg whipped in a crushing kick; Myotismon drifted back to evade, then slashed both arms forward as twin blood-red whips formed.
"Crimson Lightning!" The lashes cracked toward WereGarurumon.
"Kaiser Nail!" He slashed back midair—but he'd only just evolved, and Myotismon, a veteran Ultimate, outclassed him. WereGarurumon was swatted from the sky and hammered on the ground under a rain of lashes.
"Hand of Fate!" Angemon struck from behind, catching Myotismon off guard.
Kneeling from the blow, Myotismon's eyes flashed dangerously. "Vexing." He snapped a whip backward; Angemon caught it on his Holy Rod but still skidded back.
Hovering, Angemon kept his guard up and glanced at WereGarurumon. "You okay?"
WereGarurumon flipped to his feet. "I'm fine. Let's go together." "Right."
Seeing WereGarurumon steady, Matt let out the breath he'd been holding.
"Go! You've got this!" T.K. cheered from the side for his partner.
"Fight with me," Angemon called down.
WereGarurumon nodded, lunging again. "Kaiser Nail!" Angemon's fist blazed. "Hand of Fate!" Not to be outdone, Myotismon unleashed his own power. "Grisly Wing!"
Meanwhile, Joe was in the kitchen when the light dimmed. He set down his ladle and stepped outside, looking up. "It's midday—so why is it getting dark?"
Gomamon, curious, waddled out after him. "What's up, Joe?"
Joe pointed. "Look—the sky's gone dark."
Gomamon stared too, baffled. Far off, the horizon flashed; a beam cut across the heavens. Joe glanced at the Digivice in his hand—the red dot was blinking rapidly. "Someone's there… That's a Digivolution beam. Are they in trouble?"
"What is it, Joe?" Gomamon asked, confused.
Joe's expression hardened, fists clenching as he made up his mind. He sprinted for the lake. "Let's move, Gomamon. We're going to check it out!"
Digitamamon saw his chef bolting and hollered after him, "Don't go! If you're unhappy with the pay, I can give you a raise!"
Joe didn't slow. He waved back. "Goodbye, Digitamamon! I've got somewhere I need to be. And the pay was great!"
Izzy and Tentomon were on their way to regroup when Izzy suddenly stopped.
Tentomon took a few steps more before noticing. "What's wrong? Tired?"
Izzy shook his head and pointed up. "No. Don't you think it suddenly got dark?"
Tentomon looked up. "You're right. What's—Izzy, look." He pointed skyward.
"Where?" Izzy searched.
"That carriage belongs to Myotismon."
"What?" Izzy's eyes widened.
"It's stopping… He got out. Where is he—what's he doing?" Tentomon murmured.
Izzy checked his Digivice against where Myotismon descended. His face turned grave. "We have to hurry. That's exactly where our friends are. Looks like he's gone after them."
Kabuterimon ferried Izzy toward Matt's location, while Ikkakumon swam with Joe across the lake toward the same shore. The kids were drawing closer to reuniting.
A thud—WereGarurumon slammed into the ground. He braced on both hands, flipped up—and a blood-red lash smashed the spot he'd just vacated.
He kept springing, dodging Myotismon's whip strikes. Above, Angemon peppered Myotismon with attacks to buy WereGarurumon space. But Myotismon slipped every blow, lashing one whip at WereGarurumon and flicking the other skyward. Angemon parried again and again with his Holy Rod, countering when he could—but Myotismon was simply too strong. Even flanked by WereGarurumon and an angel whose power rivaled an Ultimate's, he fought with chilling ease, grinding them down.
He sidestepped another "Hand of Fate," then snapped both whips around WereGarurumon, yanked him up, and hurled him at Angemon. Angemon couldn't dodge; WereGarurumon crashed into him and smashed them both to the ground.
"WereGarurumon!" "Angemon!" Matt and T.K. shouted, panic in their eyes.
"Die," Myotismon snarled, charging the fallen pair. The whips cracked down toward them.
A sharp whoosh split the air. Myotismon glanced right and jolted back—an enormous horn tore through where he'd been. A crimson beetle swooped past, circled once, and dove again. "Horn Buster!"
"Matt!" someone called from the entrance.
Matt and T.K. turned—and grinned. Izzy had arrived at the critical moment, sprinting toward them.
MegaKabuterimon dived once more, but Myotismon sneered, spread his hands—and the charge veered off as if twisted by unseen force, obliterating the amusement park's Ferris wheel instead.
"Hmph." He shifted his gaze toward the children, who were still riding the rush of reunion. Myotismon's smile turned predatory. "How convenient. All gathered together—saves me the trouble of hunting you one by one. Grisly Wing."
A swarm of bats hurtled at the kids. They had no way to block it—
"Harpoon Torpedo!" A salvo of missiles streaked in, shredding the bat swarm mid-air.
The children looked toward the source—Joe and Ikkakumon had arrived.
Angemon and WereGarurumon pushed themselves up. MegaKabuterimon soared back in. With Ikkakumon joining, the children's Digimon ringed Myotismon. The battle was about to explode. Even surrounded, Myotismon's aristocratic smile didn't fade.
"Hand of Fate!" "Kaiser Nail!" "Horn Buster!" "Harpoon Torpedo!" The kids' partners all unleashed their strongest attacks.
A thunderous blast shook the air, smoke boiling and swallowing Myotismon's figure. The children stared into the haze, tense and silent.
Laughter echoed above them. Myotismon's silhouette rose, climbing fast. "Let's play again next time, DigiDestined." The carriage door slammed; Phantomon snapped the reins, and the Devidramon hauling it pounded forward. In a heartbeat, the coach dwindled and vanished from sight.
The immediate crisis had passed, but Myotismon loomed like a wall before them. Their adventure was only diving deeper.
