Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: GigaSeadramon’s Defeat

Omnimon—Transcendent Form could draw out far more of its power than the ordinary form.

Dark GigaSeadramon roared up from the sea, glaring at its nemesis, Omnimon, and bellowed again. The lesson just now, however, kept it from charging in; instead it braced to defend against Omnimon's assault. Omnimon raised his left hand toward the serpent.

The Omega Shield on his left arm reconfigured, forming a massive muzzle. Light swelled within. "Omega Cannon!" A torrent of energy fired forth. Dark GigaSeadramon answered with its own finisher: "Dark Giga Wave Cannon!"

The two beams collided. The white torrent pressed the black one back, pushing toward Dark GigaSeadramon. Even as it poured on more output, the serpent couldn't stem the Omega Cannon's advance. Omnimon suddenly spiked the power; the Omega Cannon scattered the Dark Giga Wave Cannon, then slammed into Dark GigaSeadramon, blasting a huge hole straight through its body.

Dark GigaSeadramon howled, whipping about on the surface and throwing up mountains of spray. Incredibly, the gaping wound began to knit shut before their eyes.

It went still and turned its gaze on Omnimon. Then its whole body began to shift. With grinding mechanical sounds, its joints came apart—the body splitting into segment after segment.

Inside Blimpmon, the kids were beyond words at the sight. Even Tai was taken aback. This was way too bizarre. What was Dark GigaSeadramon, a Transformer? It could disassemble itself?!

The separated segments transformed—each into a smaller Dark GigaSeadramon. Hundreds of them swarmed Omnimon. A single swing of the Omega Sword could cleave one in half, but there were simply too many, and even "small," each one was nearly Omnimon's size given how huge the original had been. Omnimon jinked through the pack, slashing with the Omega Sword and firing the Omega Cannon to destroy them one by one.

"Dark Giga Wave Cannon!" A cluster of the small serpents fired in unison.

Panels opened all across Omnimon's armor, revealing countless ports. "Omega Storm!" A storm of Omega Missiles streaked out, smashing the incoming beams. The sea bucked even higher; the heat of the blasts sent plumes of vapor rolling up from the waves.

"Omega Storm!" Omnimon launched another barrage, then chained salvo after salvo into the surrounding serpents. The small Dark GigaSeadramon tried to weave away, but there were too many Omega Missiles to dodge them all. Soon that dense cloud thinned rapidly.

Sensing the reversal, the surviving small serpents converged and recombined—forming Dark GigaSeadramon again, albeit much reduced in size.

"Skywave!" The reformed serpent opened ports along its back, spewing energy spheres to counter Omnimon's Omega Storm.

With a roar, Dark GigaSeadramon churned the sea until waves reared—and dozens of Digimon heads broke the surface.

"What are those…?" Izzy peered down and rifled the database. "Archelomon, Gekomon, MegaSeadramon, Ebidramon, Shellmon—a lot of the Deep-Sea Savior Corps' Digimon!"

"All right, everyone—it's our turn," Tentomon called to the partners, then shot out of Blimpmon first.

"Tentomon—Warp Digivolve to MegaKabuterimon!"

"Biyomon—Warp Digivolve to Garudamon!"

"Gomamon—Warp Digivolve to Zudomon!"

"Palmon—Warp Digivolve to Lillymon!"

"Patamon—Warp Digivolve to MagnaAngemon!"

"Gatomon—Digivolve to Angewomon!"

The partners streaked toward the surfacing Deep-Sea Savior Digimon, opening a second front. Inside Blimpmon, the kids leaned over the windows, shouting encouragement to their partners.

Though the Deep-Sea Savior numbers were high, most were Champion level. Their heavier hitters were tied down on the Steel Empire front. These were likely the Corps' last reserves. The kids' partners were all Ultimate level, and MagnaAngemon and Angewomon stood out as especially powerful—their combat strength outstripped ordinary Ultimates. The fight swung one-sided, with the partners running the enemy ragged.

Meanwhile, Omnimon and Dark GigaSeadramon were also nearing the end. They traded blows, back and forth—Omnimon's Omega Sword carving new gashes again and again. However strong the serpent's regeneration, time eroded it; its healing slowed and fell behind Omnimon's onslaught. It roared and writhed, but it couldn't escape his strikes.

"Finish this," Omnimon said, and the Omega Cannon lit once more. He dashed in, right arm thrusting.

A wet, ringing sound—and time seemed to halt. The Omega Sword drove into Dark GigaSeadramon's mouth and speared straight through—its tip erupting from the tail. In that instant, the blade extended, running the serpent clean through.

Omnimon ripped the sword free, and the blade snapped back to its original length. Dark GigaSeadramon began to crumble—its body disintegrating into data and fading from the sea.

"Datamon, begin assimilating the Law of Water. Take command of the Deep-Sea Savior Corps," Tai ordered, relieved as the serpent vanished.

Omnimon turned. Seeing the others still fighting the Deep-Sea Digimon, he swept over; weapons across his frame cycled open again. "Omega Storm!" Omega Missiles arced wide around Angewomon and the rest and slammed into the Deep-Sea Savior ranks engaged with the partners. After a cataclysmic series of blasts, the ocean calmed—leaving only the seven partner Digimon above the waves.

"Yesss!"

"We won!"

Inside Blimpmon, the kids whooped, high-fiving in celebration. Kari, however, looked stricken. "Tai… why did we have to kill those Digimon? We'd already won."

Tai ruffled her hair. "Try not to dwell on it. There wasn't another choice."

Omnimon's body split into twin lances of golden light that shot back into Blimpmon. When the glow faded, Agumon and Gabumon stood where the Mega had been. The other six partners also dissolved into gold light and returned aboard. The kids scooped their partners up, grinning with relief.

Blimpmon banked for home. With no need to worry about discovery, it pushed to full speed—many times faster than the trip out—and soon crossed back into Steel Empire territory. At the Central Control Tower, both kids and Digimon were drained by the long battle, especially Agumon and Gabumon. After dinner, everyone retired to rest.

Tai sent Agumon off and headed for the central control room. Datamon had been waiting there for some time.

"Lord Tai, we've begun taking over the Deep-Sea Savior holdings. Everything's proceeding smoothly," Datamon reported.

Tai nodded, noncommittal, eyes on the displays: Steel Empire mechanical soldiers were already moving in. With MetalSeadramon defeated, resistance was light; scattered pockets were quickly suppressed. Piedmon and Puppetmon made no move—likely because their armies were still stuck on the Steel Empire front and lacked the strength to interfere. A few troops wouldn't change anything; more, they couldn't spare. The bigger the territory, the more there was to guard, but Tai didn't dwell on it. He had to seize Dark Tornado Mountain as fast as possible; nothing else mattered.

Piedmon's palace.

Puppetmon hefted his hammer and looked at Piedmon. "What now? Those summoned brats already took down MetalSeadramon. The Steel Empire's moving in on its territory. Are we just going to watch?"

Piedmon smiled faintly. "No need to seek them out. Those little brats will come knocking on their own."

Puppetmon snorted, dissatisfied with the answer, but said nothing more. He slung his hammer over his shoulder and stomped out. Watching him go, Piedmon's smile turned thin and cold. "So that's all you amount to. Seems you don't have any answers for those brats either. And here I thought you were something special. Even your 'catalyzed' MetalSeadramon was nothing much."
