Seeing Tai's energy slash cutting toward it, Millenniummon didn't dodge. It opened its jaws and fired a lance of energy that shattered the oncoming blade mid-air.
"Firestorm!" WarGreymon opened weapon ports across his frame and launched a torrent of Tyranno Missiles, each carving a white contrail as it screamed toward Millenniummon.
At the same time, the BraveBeasts gathered clusters of energy before their chest and hurled them forward.
Millenniummon chuckled darkly. The cannons on its back flared—and spat out hundreds of miniature missiles.
Boom—boom—boom—boom!
Millenniummon's micromissiles slammed into WarGreymon's barrage and the BraveBeasts' shots, detonations strobing across the Dark Ocean like daylight.
Skirting the heart of the blast, Tai, WarGreymon, and the BraveBeasts knifed straight in. Millenniummon sneered at their approach, its four claws suddenly telescoping outward, snatching for the trio.
They rolled and twisted through the air, slipping past the grasping talons. Counterstrikes flickered back at the claws, but those hurried, uncharged blows barely scratched Millenniummon.
The monster's claws were serpent-quick, bending and whipping to chase them. The three circled up and down around Millenniummon, dodging without a clean opening to strike.
This won't do, Tai thought, juking under another sweep. WarGreymon and the BraveBeasts were stuck on the back foot too—no chance to press an attack.
Tai suddenly stopped dead, planting himself in mid-air, eyes narrowing on the talon scything for him.
The Sacred Sword: Genesis Edge in his right hand blazed brighter and brighter. Just as the claw was about to close on him, Tai shouted, gripped the hilt with both hands, and hewed across the incoming strike.
Clang! Sparks geysered where blade met claw; the impact hurled Tai backward.
"Hold!" he growled, cape whipping in the wind. The claw ground to a stop against his sword. Millenniummon's eyes bulged; it poured more strength into the limb. Tai wrenched his shoulders and chopped down.
"Aaagh!" Millenniummon screamed. Tai's stroke split the talon from knuckle to tip.
Millenniummon snapped the limb back. Tai, WarGreymon, and the BraveBeasts regrouped, staring it down.
Black mist welled across Millenniummon's body, coalescing at the sundered claw. In moments the vapor knit whole—its talon was good as new.
The three shared a glance and nodded—then surged forward. Millenniummon's massive body lunged to meet them.
Tai poured power into the Genesis Edge; a gigantic blade-aura jetted from its tip. He swept the sword in tight arcs before him, sending crescent after crescent screaming ahead—"Phantom Slash!"—each arc condensing mid-flight into a razor-edged blade.
WarGreymon raised his right-hand Tyranno Sword and loosed a vast slash—"Tyranno Slash!"—while the left-arm Tyranno Cannon spat a long, brilliant beam. The BraveBeasts formed arcane mudras, chanting under their breath; motes of light winked to life behind them, swelling into spears that, at a pointing finger, all streaked for Millenniummon.
With a savage grin, Millenniummon answered: super-heavy energy rays and another storm of micromissiles from its back cannons, plus a mouth-fired beam. Then the twin barrels on its back lit again while black fog poured from its jaws and four claws, fusing before it into a towering mass of darkness. The cannons and talons kept pumping energy in; the black conglomerate swelled, bigger and bigger.
Missiles, beams, and spears collided with thunder and fire.
Tai's blade waves and WarGreymon's lance broke through the blast zone, still driving on.
Millenniummon shoved the dark mass forward. WarGreymon's Tyranno Cannon hammered the incoming "Infinity Cape."
The two forces met with a vicious hiss, like water flung on a forge. The black mass still crept forward, slowed and shrinking; the cannon beam was steadily eaten away. Then WarGreymon's Tyranno Slash bit in, silently cleaving the darkness down the middle, and Tai's blade-aura followed through, chopping it to pieces.
A hatch irised open in WarGreymon's chest, revealing a cavernous muzzle that began to pulse with prismatic light. A seven-hued beam lanced out and struck the shorn fragments.
Where the rainbow ray touched, the dark conglomerate melted like ice to flame.
This was WarGreymon's new technique—the Infinite Dimensional Energy Cannon. It could reach across time and space—and its raw force could shatter space itself. At full output, it could even punch through multiple layered spaces.
After the Archdemon King's defeat, Datamon had, at Tai's direction, mined the collected data and finally cracked a breakthrough. Tai rushed to weaponize it.
WarGreymon's Infinite Dimensional Energy Cannon was the newest result—fitted explicitly for the coming clash with Millenniummon.
Ordinarily, Millenniummon's Infinity Cape compressed time to craft a bizarre pocket of space, a prison to seal foes in an extra dimension forever. But WarGreymon's Tyranno Cannon held it at bay while Tai's Phantom Slash split and scattered it—robbing it of full potency. And when a second time-and-space attack met it head-on, the Infinity Cape collapsed entirely.
WarGreymon's beam didn't stop there. Even as the Infinity Cape disintegrated, the ray ripped on and smashed into Millenniummon before it could react.
"ROAR!" Millenniummon howled. WarGreymon poured on the power; the cannon's force swelled, blasting bloom after bloom across Millenniummon's hide, the recoil shoving it farther and farther back.
Millenniummon tried to brace—but WarGreymon kept pace, walking the muzzle to track every stagger, never letting the monster slip free of the beam.
Seeing the opening, Tai and the BraveBeasts dove in to press the advantage.
"Heaven-Rending Annihilation!" Tai swept the Genesis Edge in a shining arc over his head and brought it down, a cleaver of light slamming onto Millenniummon below.
"Plasma Shot!" The BraveBeasts hurled orb after orb of incandescent plasma that hammered into Millenniummon's frame.
Driven back step by step, Millenniummon still couldn't break out of their kill zone.
"Die!" Enraged, Millenniummon roared. It forced through their barrage, its whole body exuding black mist.
The moment the fog left its form, it rippled outward as a black wave in all directions. Millenniummon sagged after the release—the move had cost it dearly.
Where the Dark Wave rolled, space itself laced over with fine cracks—and every attack in its path winked out without a sound.
WarGreymon snapped the Brave Shield open and braced. Sparks screamed as the Dark Wave crashed over it, the impact hurling him into the Dark Ocean's rocky shore and embedding him deep in the stone.
"Divine Aegis." Tai's voice was low. A conjured spell-shield flared before him, and he triggered Iron Wall—an all-around bulwark against incoming force. The black surge smashed into it—outer layers shattered one by one. Each time a plate broke, Tai replaced it, burning through his reserves until, at last, the Dark Wave guttered out.
The BraveBeasts spread their palms; an orange, translucent film skinned across their body. The black ripple passed over it without a whisper, as if the barrier weren't even there.
Heh-heh. Millenniummon curled a claw, a black energy orb seething to life in its palm, and flicked it at WarGreymon. He tore free of the rock just in time to see the projectile barreling in.
His left-arm Tyranno Cannon barked; the beams met and the orb blew, the blast shoving WarGreymon back and scarring twin trenches in the ground beneath his heels.
Tai thrust out his right hand. The Genesis Edge kindled with ferocious flame; the fire condensed into a brilliant bolt along the blade.
"Rainbow Bridge Blazing Arrow!"
The scorching bolt tore free and streaked for Millenniummon.
It spat a beam to swat the shot aside—but the arrow split the lance down the middle and punched straight into Millenniummon's chest.
Fire erupted, spreading in a rush, wrapping the monster completely. In an eye-blink, Millenniummon was a blazing sun in the dark.
Black mist gushed from its body—but this time, the flames caught the vapor and fed higher. The fog, meant to smother, became kindling.
"There's no putting this out, Millenniummon," Tai said, voice gone cold. "This is the Crimson Lotus Flame—anything becomes its fuel. Any energy only burns hotter. And you picked the perfect place—the Dark Ocean is saturated with darkness. A paradise for the Crimson Lotus Flame. Be ready. This time, you're finished."
As he spoke, Tai kept channeling power into the Genesis Edge, quietly stockpiling strength for the final strike.
