Dark Dagomon stretched out its right hand, and the black fog on its body rapidly condensed into a gigantic trident. It raised it in front of itself, blocking Tai's Holy Sword: Genesis Blade. The scene was like someone using a baseball bat to fight a bee's stinger—except that bee was somehow holding its own, trading blow for blow.
Bang, bang! Tai kept swinging Holy Sword: Genesis Blade, smashing it against Dark Dagomon's trident. Every collision erupted with violent impacts and explosions, and the shockwaves from each blast blew away the thick fog around them, briefly clearing the battlefield.
Tai dropped onto the beach—and Dark Dagomon's trident came crashing down on him. Tai braced his sword against it, but the sand beneath his feet suddenly spiderwebbed with cracks and sank several meters, swallowing Tai down into the ground. He forced the trident away, shot back into the air, and brought his blade down in a ruthless strike across Dark Dagomon's head.
Dark Dagomon let out a miserable howl and toppled into the sea. When that enormous body hit the water, it threw up a spray hundreds of meters high, and waves like a tsunami surged toward the shore.
Countless tentacles pierced through the water, shrieking as they whipped up toward Tai in midair.
"Holy Shield!" Tai swept his left hand forward. A diamond-shaped shield glowing with silver light formed in front of him, completely covering his body. Tentacles slammed into it with rapid pop-pop-pop strikes, but the shield stood firm—immovable as a mountain.
"Phantom Slash!" Tai wasn't the type to just take hits. His right hand twisted Holy Sword: Genesis Blade, unleashing dozens of energy blades that chopped into the tentacles. But those tentacles—made of some unknown substance—were unbelievably tough. The energy blades only sank in a little before they couldn't cut any deeper.
And their regeneration was absurd. The wounds he'd carved sealed back up in an instant.
Splash—splash! The sound of water rose as Dark Dagomon stood again. It lifted its trident high and smashed it down toward Tai, while its tentacles surged up at the same time, trying to seal off his escape routes.
Tai swung Holy Sword: Genesis Blade left and right, hacking through several tentacles by brute force and tearing free of the encirclement. The trident, trailing a scream of air, slammed into the hillside and punched straight through it from top to bottom. Rocks exploded outward in every direction.
"Th-this… what is that?" Davis stammered, pointing at the black silhouette standing in the sea, with the water only reaching its calves.
"Who's that?" Cody pointed too—at the figure that looked like nothing compared to that giant, yet was wielding a glowing sword and fighting it head-on, blow for blow.
"Kari!" T.K. didn't have the headspace to listen to them. He scanned frantically until he finally spotted the familiar figure standing in the distance, and shouted in relief.
Hearing his voice, Kari turned and saw her partners and Digimon running toward her. She smiled. "Gatomon… everyone."
"Kari!" Gatomon leapt high, and Kari quickly caught her, hugging her tight.
"Where's Tai?" Davis asked, looking around.
Still holding Gatomon, Kari turned and pointed toward the tiny figure still locked in battle with Dark Dagomon.
"No way…" They all knew Tai was strong, but they'd never had a real sense of it. Now, seeing him fight something that huge on equal footing—only then did it hit them just how terrifyingly strong he really was.
BOOM! Tai narrowly dodged a trident strike. The trident scraped past him and smashed into the sea, sending water blasting hundreds of meters into the air and momentarily swallowing both Tai and Dark Dagomon from view. But almost immediately, the aftershocks of their battle blew the suspended water away, clearing the air again.
"I'm going in," Agumon said, eyes sharpening.
"Yeah, I'll help too—Veemon!" Davis raised his D-3 Digivice to call his partner.
"Wait." Gatomon stopped Davis. "This fight isn't something we can jump into."
"Why?" Davis demanded. Yolei and Cody looked just as confused, while T.K. lowered his head and clenched his fists.
"Tai!" Agumon shouted at the top of its lungs. As it called out, a light flared from Tai—rainbow colors that streamed onto Agumon.
"Agumon… Warp Digivolution to… WarGreymon!"
The light faded. WarGreymon—clad in orange Chrome Digizoid armor—snapped open the Brave Shield on its back and shot toward Dark Dagomon at high speed. Before it even reached the battlefield, it raised both hands and began gathering a massive energy sphere.
"Gaia Force!"
The huge energy sphere slammed into Dark Dagomon and detonated. The shockwave was so strong it forced Dark Dagomon back several steps.
"Because this is a Mega-level fight." Gatomon stared toward the distant clash, voice calm.
"But…" Davis still wasn't willing to accept it.
"A Mega-level fight isn't something we—who can only Armor Digivolve right now—can take part in. Unless…" Gatomon didn't finish the sentence.
T.K., head lowered, spoke in a heavy voice. "Unless Patamon and Gatomon can evolve into MagnaAngemon and Angewomon. Even then, we'd only be supporting from the side—we could never fight Dark Dagomon head-on like WarGreymon can."
"That's right." Gatomon watched the fierce battle, tone flat. "Only a Mega can defeat a Mega."
"Gaia Force!" WarGreymon gathered power again and fired at Dark Dagomon. Dark Dagomon piled its tentacles in front of itself, fusing them into a layered wall of flesh. The Gaia Force hammered into it, caving the shield inward toward Dark Dagomon. The contact point was ground away relentlessly—yet in the end, the attack still dispersed unwillingly into nothing.
At the same time, Tai swung Holy Sword: Genesis Blade and battled Dark Dagomon's trident head-on. The clang-clang of weapons echoed without pause.
"Haah!" Tai raised Holy Sword: Genesis Blade high and brought it down hard onto the trident that came up to meet him.
WarGreymon rushed in, swinging its Dramon Killers—but the tentacles blocked it. The razor-sharp Dramon Killers chopped tentacles apart one after another, but more immediately grew back, and WarGreymon was dragged into a brutal melee.
"Aaaooo!" Dark Dagomon roared. As it did, parts of its body began to slough off, transforming into even more tentacles that lashed around WarGreymon.
WarGreymon darted through the gaps, dodging nonstop and slicing tentacles with both Dramon Killers—
"What?!" It slowed for just a split second to cut through the tentacles in front of it, and that was enough. One tentacle snatched its foot, killing its speed. More tentacles piled on. Before it could break free, WarGreymon was wrapped up tight—like a dumpling—sealed inside a black, cocoon-like mass.
"WarGreymon!" Tai's face went pale. He rushed forward to cut WarGreymon free, but tentacles surged in to block him.
"Gravity Wave!" Holy Sword: Genesis Blade released wave after wave of destructive sword energy. Explosions ripped through the tentacles, blasting them apart one by one.
A cold, slicing gust of air hit his back.
Tai spun and raised Holy Sword: Genesis Blade just in time—barely blocking Dark Dagomon's trident ambush. The impact still sent Tai flying, smashing him deep into the cliffside. Rocks cascaded down with a deafening rattle.
"Tai!"
"Tai!" Kari's tears spilled as she watched Tai buried beneath rubble.
"Haah!" Tai burst out from the rocks, launched himself again, and charged straight at Dark Dagomon.
Dark Dagomon was still maintaining the prison around WarGreymon, meaning most of its tentacles couldn't freely move—because inside that cocoon, WarGreymon was still thrashing and attacking like crazy. You could tell from the way the cocoon kept bulging and denting.
"It's all my fault… It's because of me that Tai came here. I've been dragging him down… I always have." Kari lowered her head, voice dull and heavy.
"Kari, Kari." Gatomon shook Kari's hand. "That's not true. Kari has always tried her best, hasn't she? Kari is always thinking of others—like a light that shines on everyone around her. I'm sure Tai is the same. He would never think Kari is a burden."
"Tai…" After hearing Gatomon, Kari lifted her head and looked at Tai still forcing his way toward where WarGreymon was trapped. She wiped her tears away with a quick swipe.
"Yeah. I shouldn't be sinking into this. Tai has always worked so hard, hasn't he? I can't fall behind. Someday, I'll be able to help Tai too. Right, Gatomon?"
"Yeah!" Gatomon nodded hard. "Kari's wish is my wish. I'll work together with Kari. Kari isn't alone—we've always been together, haven't we? It took me so long to find Kari. I'm never letting us be separated again."
Light—light that the Dark Area had never possessed since the moment it was born—poured out of Kari, illuminating the entire sky. The thick fog touched that radiance like ice meeting a branding iron, melting away in an instant.
"My whole body is overflowing with power… This is the power Kari gave me." Gatomon murmured. Her body was completely engulfed by light now.
"Gatomon… Warp Digivolution to… Ophanimon!"
Ophanimon is a female Angel Digimon—an Ophan Digimon that represents the final form of feminine angel Digimon. A loving holy mother who embodies divine mercy, she purifies evil and guides it to paradise. Alongside Seraphimon and Cherubimon, she is one of the Three Great Angel Digimon who guard the Digital World's core, the "Kernel (God's Domain)," each carrying their own duty. Her special moves are EDEN's Javelin, which fires holy light from her spear to purify enemies, and Sefirot Crystal, which summons fifteen crystal spheres arranged in the shape of the Tree of Life to strike her foes.
