Ice Release, much like Wood Release, is a physical bloodline ability that allows the user to develop ninjutsu adapted to a variety of battle conditions, offering both offensive and defensive versatility. Drawing inspiration from the precedent set by Wood Release, Kyuushin realized he could use similar ideas when crafting his own Ice Release techniques, making the process of invention more efficient and strategic.
If adaptation ever became a roadblock, he even considered that the Hōzuki clan's techniques—still available at this point in history—could be useful templates for future experimentation.
With Wind and Water Release as the core Nature Transformations required, and both already mastered, Ice Release stood out as the ideal Bloodline Limit for Kyuushin.
Still, Kyuushin doubted that simply combining the two natures would work. If creating a Bloodline Limit were as easy as mixing chakra, powerful techniques like these wouldn't be so rare. Even Konoha's Third Hokage, master of all five natures, would have amassed multiple bloodline abilities, not just proficiency in regular elemental jutsu.
Reflecting further, Kyuushin compared water and ice—recognizing ice as simply water at low temperature—but quickly realized that the science of ninjutsu did not work on pure physics alone. In the world of chakra, "Water Release" creates water, but this water, like the results of other element jutsu, only persists while the chakra flows; it's a manifestation, not a true transformation of matter. Wind Release, similarly, isn't simply wind but a manipulated chakra form that holds cutting, cooling, or shaping properties as the user commands.
With that understanding, Kyuushin concluded that Ice Release was not the product of simply lowering temperature or mixing natures, but of truly synthesizing both wind and water chakra at the fundamental level to birth a new, unified chakra nature—Hyōton.
Unsure of the method, Kyuushin chose to experiment directly. He sat cross-legged and activated his First Stage Gene Lock, attempting to manifest a strand of Wind Release chakra alongside a strand of Water Release chakra within his body. Immediately, he felt a subtle block—the two natures resisted being controlled together, and only the heightened coordination from his Gene Lock allowed him to proceed at all. Even so, their interaction was inert: no fusion, just two separate layers.
Recognizing that merely blending two chakra types was fruitless, he reflected on elemental combinations being akin to chemical reactions—catalyzed only by precise ratios and tiny, balanced units.
Opening his Second Stage Gene Lock, Kyuushin focused his mental control to its absolute limit. He methodically divided both his Wind and Water Release chakra strands into 128 fine "threads," finer than a human hair—far beyond what most shinobi could achieve.
Slowly and carefully, he brought three threads of Water Release into contact with one thread of Wind Release. To his amazement, the sensation changed—a resonance began, and those threads fused. A new, chilling chakra nature blossomed at their convergence.
Ice Release chakra was born.
This marked Kyuushin's entry into the ranks of true kekkei genkai users, as he unlocked one of the most balanced and dynamic Bloodline Limits—a power that would let him shape the field, shield his allies, and strike with creative versatility, just as legends like Haku once had.
