"Guess I'll have to take this seriously then..."
Corvus laughed, the entire room now surrounded by dark smoke, pouring out from beneath his robes and threatening to cover their vision completely.
"I'll handle the darkness, you three handle in taking him out."
Marcellus barked out, his tone clear that he was used to commanding others.
He clapped his hands once, sparks flying as he did, and his eyes glowing white afterwards.
"I'll leave him to you!"
The moment he yelled out, the smoke immediately dissipated, the entire room now replaced with light, the smoke naturally fearing its primordial enemy.
And it was exactly like in the novel, elements had their counters, where even the strongest of one element may be completely ineffective against a resistant one, or how even a weak elemental attack could bypass another element's strongest defensive ability.
It was all about counters and how to use them.
And luckily enough, I completely knew how.
"Got it, brother!"
Julius shouted, lunging towards Corvus, their weapons clashing as Julius attempted to overwhelm him.
Obviously failing.
He may be powerful, but at this point in the novel, he is still a mere talented prodigy.
"Step to the side, Julius!"
Evelina yelled out from behind, unleashing a powerful blast of dark energy towards the two of them, not caring about hitting an ally.
"Hey! Wait!"
Julius barely managed to dodge, the blast barely grazing his hair as Corvus took the full brunt of the blast, gliding across the floor.
He had managed to block it with his daggers.
"Felt like I just got hit by a small rock..."
Corvus mocked.
'Did he just... how dare he insult her abilities!?'
In this world, magic didn't require mana in a traditional sense; instead, it all relied on equations and math. Every single spell in existence relied on a formula; it was the language of magic.
And usually, it would even take me years to master it, and decades to even use it like the other three with me.
But I was given photographic memory... and luckily enough, the old Cael seemed to have taken a glance at a dark magic spellbook.
Now all I needed to do was think quickly on my feet, a skill I mastered due to my previous life.
"Shut your mouth!"
I yelled out, my voice coming out more feral than expected.
Two dark portals beside me appeared, dark tendrils lashing out as they aimed to subdue Corvus.
"Think that'll take me down?"
He confidently spoke, and he had every right to, easily cleaving the tendrils apart.
"Enough of this!"
Corvus grinned, quickly disappearing, appearing behind Marcellus, planning to take out their vision.
CLANG!
But instead of hitting his target, he met shadow, his arms being absorbed into the abyss.
'What!?'
Corvus's eyes widened in surprise; it was another quick spell that he never anticipated.
FWOOSH!
He dashed backwards, creating distance.
Someone was fully utilizing his own techniques, the same way he used shadow magic, and it was enough to make a depressed and tired professor like him start to feel excited.
Who in the world was crazy enough to mimic him like that?
"You're quick..."
Evelina expressed surprise, my calculations impressing even here.
"Proud to serve, my lady."
I turned towards her, bowing before her, causing her to raise an eyebrow in response.
"Oh...? Obedient are you?"
"What the hell are you two doing!?"
Julius interrupted, lunging towards Corvus again, who was planning to attack the two of them while they were distracted.
"Don't get distracted!"
He barked, his voice strained as his arms trembled from Corvus' blows.
FWOOSH!
Corvus instinctively ducked, a bright pure ball of light wizzing past where his face used to be; a direct blow could have knocked him out quickly.
"Drat...! I missed."
Marcellus cursed, Corvus quickly changing target to him once more.
"Wait! Why does it have to be me!?"
Marcellus unleashed a wall of light in front of him, but as expected, Corvus manifested behind him using shadow magic, his eyes filled with bloodlust.
But before he managed to take him out...
BEEP!
BEEP!
BEEP!
The test had been completed, and three minutes had passed.
"Guess you got lucky..."
Corvus dissapointedly whispered to him, causing Marcellus to fall to his knees, eyes glazed with fear and heart pumping with adrenaline, he genuinely thought he was about to die.
"Relax, he wasn't actually going to kill you."
Evelina coldly chuckled, amused at Marcellus' fear.
But enough about them, this was my chance to finally insert myself into Evelina's story.
"My lady..."
I spoke, my voice coming out quieter than expected.
"I'll entertain you for now due to the skill you had shown, but do be quick about it."
Evelina glanced at me, one hand on her waist as she looked at me with a curious but bored expression.
"T-thank you for your benevolence!"
I bowed once more, shouting.
"What's up with him...?"
Corvus muttered, scratching the back of his head.
"I don't know, probably love at first sight."
Julius replied jokingly, shrugging.
