Chapter 24 - A Special Gift...?

The class ended without any further problems.

And, luckily for me, it seemed like the S-Rank Class had one of the best time distribution schedules among the rest of the academy.

We had plenty of vacant times, and one of them? Currently happening, it seemed the academy had prioritised independent learning for S-Rank students.

And I couldn't blame them. Anyone who had already reached that kind of rank was already smart enough to learn on their own, either that or had enough resources to teach themselves.

The academy didn't want to waste the potential of talented students on rigid curricula.

Anyone with a brain would understand that in a class full of prodigies, the usual curriculum wouldn't work.

And besides... we already have access to the imperial library.

"Cael."

Evelina leaned on the doorway, motioning for me to follow her.

And of course, I didn't waste time, obeying her order without complaint, and the two of us quickly left and headed towards her dorm.

A location I didn't really expect.

I had something more in mind: a dangerous dungeon to gain artifacts, or a gathering of students to gain more followers.

But... it was Evelina giving the order, so whatever it was, it was sure to be calculated and incredible.

*** Evelina's Room

"I'll get straight to the point."

She loosened her tie, giving herself more breathing room as she cracked her knuckles.

She was clearly about to ask for something demanding, but whatever it was, I'm ready.

"Make me stronger."

Evelina said bluntly.

"Of course."

I had already expected this conversation to come up eventually; after all, any competent practitioner of demonology could already see the strange magic that was coursing throughout my entire body.

And Evelina was more than merely competent.

It was only obvious that she would ask how I managed to get so powerful in so little time.

I tapped the fabric wrapped around my neck, and the succubus quickly manifested around my neck as she yawned.

"Need help already?"

The succubus froze for a second, seeing Evelina. "Oh... now that's a beauty..."

I smiled at her compliment to Evelina, nodding in approval. She was definitely a good choice to make a contract with, after all, anyone who appreciates Evelina's beauty was always automatically on good terms with me.

"A succubus?" Evelina crossed her arms. "So that's why you were wearing a choker..."

"She's quite powerful... I want to hand her to you as a gift."

The succubus laughed. "You're already giving me away?" she said, jokingly, in an offended tone, but she clearly didn't mind.

The succubus had already seen Evelina's potential in demonic energy.

Evelina raised a brow at my mention of a gift, curious and confused at my choice of words. Usually, she would think nothing of it.

But using the word gift to hand her a demon's contract was certainly... not the usual.

'Come to think of it... he just wore the choker today, did he really make a contract with another demon just to give it to me...?'

Evelina tilted her head, not sure if I had finally lost it or my weird obsession with her was even crazier than she initially thought.

But like always, she didn't mind; it benefited her anyway.

"Very well."

She opened her hands, the fabric choker on my neck disappearing, becoming the demonic contract I had signed with the succubus the day before.

And after quickly reading it, she decided it was a good contract; she wasn't going to get screwed over when accepting my gift.

"Accept."

She muttered, the contract shifting once more into the fabric choker, but now in Evelina's possession, along with the succubus that came with it.

"Ahh..."

She stumbled slightly, keeping herself steady on her desk as she began to gain the succubus' energy.

She didn't expect the gift to be such a high-ranking succubus.

"That's... definitely... ahh!"

She winced again.

Unlike me, I didn't have good synergy with the succubus because of my gender and the already existing chaos energy in my system.

But Evelina was a completely different case; if I had to describe it, she was a perfect master for the demoness.

But it was clear the resonance was taking a toll on her, and I couldn't even fathom seeing her in such a state.

"Let me help."

I grabbed her as she stumbled again, with her nearly losing grip of her desk as she felt her body start to heat up to something akin to a fever.

This wasn't something I had expected to happen; if I had known it would, I would have done more preparations.

This was completely my fault.

"Don't worry."

I kneeled, continuing to support her body as I pressed a thumb on her forehead, letting some of my divine magic flow through her.

Enough to numb the pain, yet not so weak as to weaken the resonance.

It was a delicate balance.

And stupidly enough...

I had a hard time focusing. I was way too close to her!

It's as if my heart itself was threatening to burst out of my chest from the sheer proximity.

If I'm not careful, I will probably collapse faster than she.

This damn weak heart of mine!
