Sophie stared at her for a long moment, then tightly held her hand. "It's all in the past, Lara. We should look forward."
"You don't blame me? It was because of me that you and Ned missed ten years."
"How could I blame you?" Sophie smiled with relief. "You're my sister. If a younger sister makes a mistake, her older sister will definitely forgive her. And the reason Ned and I missed those years wasn't entirely because of you."
Tears welled up in Lara's eyes again. This time she didn't wipe them away, letting them fall. "Sister!" she called softly, but Sophie heard it clearly.
The two sisters held hands across the small café table and smiled at each other.
Hale, who was eating cake with cream all over his mouth, watched them and whispered to Ella, "Mommy seems to be crying."
"That's not crying," Ella said without looking up from her tablet. "That's being moved."
Hale thought for a moment. "Being moved makes you want to cry and laugh at the same time? I get moved a lot then."
