Chapter 16 - Whimsical Heart

The hubbub caused by Silver Serpent and Lionbreaker's match didn't die down for a while.

The students of Class 70 kept on discussing how the former suppressed the latter and made clear the difference between them, with a few even daring to whisper stuff about how Lionbreaker's chances of capturing Sylphina's heart would basically be nonexistent if he failed to avenge himself in the future.

How he would be living under Silver Serpent's shadow.

They made sure Lionbreaker wouldn't hear, of course, fearing his retaliation.

In any case, the discussion of their match made time pass faster, and before everyone realized, it was time for yet another exciting match: False Witness versus Sylphina.

While the latter was expected to win, the former was also formidable.

The students of Class 70 certainly wished to improve their swordsmanship by stealing a few techniques from the two betters.

Zach entered the dueling space with a confident smile on his face.

False Witness was as charismatic as ever, and his subordinates unhesitatingly cheered him on, some even daring to spout slightly inappropriate words:

"Zach, you can't lose too badly now! Winning would definitely advance your cause a lot!"

"Woooh, go, Zach! Capture Miss Lynn's heart and make her your missus!"

"Show everyone how manly you are, Zach!"

The leader of the goon squad couldn't help but chuckle at his underling and friends' rather unconventional cheers, shaking his head despite being visibly pleased.

Sylphina was half-pleased, half-annoyed.

She liked the attention the boys were giving her, but at the same time, their audacity to make such jokes despite awakening such average Soulbound Swords pissed her off.

Plus, she was superior to even their leader.

How dare they mention her name with their mediocre mouths?

Fortunately, she was allowed to quickly vent her frustrations as the battle began shortly after—all eyes on them.

Class 69 was on a ten-minute water break, so even they were able to watch the sparring match of the perceived two strongest students of Class 70, greatly padding the number of onlookers.

Raring to go, Sylphina nimbly charged at False Witness, thrusting her rapier.

The latter quickly reacted by attempting to deflect the attack downward. However, the former's attack turned out to be nothing but a cunning feint.

"Slow!" Sylphina remarked, pausing for a moment to allow False Witness's training zweihander to pass through before further closing in, thrusting once more.

Almost immediately, the leader of the goon squad fell into a disadvantage, desperately fending off the snobbish lady's attacks while stepping back.

False Witness was being suppressed as expected.

However, he hadn't suffered any hits yet, showcasing his persistence and determination.

Zach was even managing to throw in a few flirty words:

"As expected, you're highly skilled, Miss Lynn! The man who would manage to capture your heart is a lucky bastard."

Sylphina merely snorted in response, hiding her delight while continuing her fierce assault.

She was as graceful as a butterfly and as relentless as a hornet.

It would be extremely difficult for a young man not to be mesmerized, both by her beauty and prowess in swordsmanship.

Most would be willing to overlook her rather nasty attitude.

False Witness could only defend the entire time.

However, he was as stoic as an ancient hero and as sturdy as a mountain.

His feet and stance remained firm despite being forced into desperate situations again and again.

It was a fascinating battle for sure, one that slightly surpassed the rather one-sided battle between the Snowflower and former Sword Prince Darren Zillman of Class 69 in terms of excitement.

The close calls that False Witness was able to survive added to everyone's enthusiasm.

The proudest of all were Zach's underlings, clapping and cheering their hearts out with every difficult but successful defense.

Sylphina was significantly affected by the happenings.

Her heart was shaken, and her gaze towards False Witness softened ever so slightly.

Lynn's mood had always been reliant on her environment; the current situation was simply perfect for her.

They became the center of attention due to Zach's persistence against her fierce assault; she was winning and was the aggressor; the other students were mesmerized by their match, and unexpectedly, the hype and excitement of their battle surpassed that of Snowflower's.

False Witness being just good enough to allow her to shine was the reason why the goon leader appeared a bit more pleasing in her eyes.

The match soon concluded.

While Lynn did not shake Zach's hand, it was evident she was in a far better mood than she was earlier, further infuriating the already frustrated Lionbreaker and slightly souring Silver Serpent's fantastic mood.

The sight of False Witness giving high-fives to his underlings as though he had won only made the two B-rankers secretly hate him even more.

How does the bastard make capturing their queen's attention seem so easy when he's so crude?!

The highlights of Class 70's first-day sparring matches have already concluded, and the other students were about to shift their focus to something else when, suddenly, a name that a majority of people from the southern region of cluster 4 recognized was called:

"Next match, Daru Finnley, Austin Grayson."

The fallen sword prince of Ashton High…

Naturally, everyone's interest in Class 70's sparring matches were rekindled.

Almost everyone who recognized the name wanted to witness Daru's swordsmanship.

Was he truly a fraud like everyone was saying, or was he a special case?

Maybe somewhere in the middle?

In any case, everyone could spare another minute and a half to find out.
