In a sunny forest clearing
Ash took out a Héart Ball and tossed it lightly into the air.
"Alright, Pikachu, come on out!" he called.
With a flash of light, Pikachu appeared, stretching and yawning. The little Pokémon looked like she had just woken up from a nap.
"Pika…" she murmured sleepily, rubbing her eyes with her tiny paws.
Ash smiled warmly. "Sorry to wake you, buddy, but I need your help with something."
At those words, Pikachu's ears perked up. Her eyes instantly brightened with determination.
"Pi! Pikachu!" (I'm ready, Master) she said, sparks flickering from her cheeks.
Ash pointed toward a nearby tree. "Alright, look over there, there's a Pidgeotto resting on that branch. Let's try catching it!
Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"
"Pikaaaaa… CHUUUUUUUUU!!!"
Pikachu crouched low, cheeks glowing a brilliant yellow. In an instant, a powerful bolt of lightning shot from her small body, crackling through the air and striking the Pidgeotto with a sharp ZZZZZAAAPP!
The Pidgeotto cried out, wings flaring as it was hit by the electric attack. It fell from the branch and was about to hit the ground.
Ash seized the moment. "Alright, Poké Ball, GO!"
He threw a Poké Ball with perfect precision. After seeing his journey, Ash knew throwing Poké Balls definitely mattered, so he had practiced a lot. The Poké Ball opened with a flash of red light, pulling the Pokémon inside.
The ball landed on the grass and began to shake.
Wobble… wobble… wobble…
Ash and Pikachu watched closely,
Then,
Click!
The Poké Ball's center light flashed white, then dimmed. The capture was complete.
Ash smiled and turned to Pikachu. "Nice job, Pikachu! That was amazing!"
"Pikachu~" she replied happily, cheeks sparking softly with joy.
Ash knelt down and patted her on the head. "You take a rest, now."
Pikachu nodded with a cheerful "Pika pika!" before Ash held up her Héart Ball. A pink beam of light enveloped her, and she returned to rest inside.
Ash then crouched beside the newly caught Pokémon.
Suddenly, a bright blue screen flickered before his eyes.

Ash had a feeling this would happen, but he didn't plan to keep Pidgeotto for long anyway.
With a sigh, he used his ability to check Pidgeotto's gender. A faint screen appeared around the Poké Ball.

Ash nodded. "Yeah, it's male, thought so."
He took the Poké Ball and called out, "Come out, Pidgeotto!"
Ash quickly took out his backpack, searching through it until he found a red-and-yellow spray bottle labeled "Potion."
"This might sting a little, okay?"
He sprayed the Potion gently over Pidgeotto's bruised wing and side. The liquid hissed faintly, and the injured areas slowly fading to normal.
Pidgeotto winced, then sighed in relief, feathers fluffing as the pain ebbed away.
"Pidgii~!"
Ash smiled. "There, all better."
He reached back into his bag, pulling out a few fresh Oran Berries. "Here, have some of these. They'll help you recover faster."
Pidgeotto pecked at the berries eagerly, chirping in gratitude.
Ash leaned back, gazing out at the quiet forest. For a brief moment, he thought of Brock.
"Brock used to do this all the time," he murmured with a small smile. "I actually learned most of this from watching him… Guess I picked up a thing or two."
His smile faded slightly. "It's a shame we can't travel together now. I was planning to before… the system appeared."
After a pause, he stood up again. "Alright, Pidgeotto, I need your help with something."
"Pidgi?" it tilted its head, curious.
"I'm looking for a shiny Pidgey egg," Ash explained. "It's for research, I don't plan to take it, I just want to see what makes a shiny one different from the others."
"Pidgiii…?" Pidgeotto chirped, puzzled. "Pidgi pidgii?" (Egg? Shiny egg?)
Ash explained more slowly, "It looks just like a normal Pidgey egg, but the baby inside might grow up to look a little different, maybe brighter, with special colors. Just a bit different from a normal Pidgey."
Pidgeotto blinked, then suddenly remembered something. It flapped its wings and chirped excitedly, "Pidgi! Pidgi pii!" (I think I've seen one like that!)
Ash followed closely as Pidgeotto flew ahead. For nearly ten minutes they moved deeper into the woods, until the trees opened up into a quiet area.
There, high on a branch, was a cluster of Pidgey and Pidgeotto nests. The air was filled with soft Pid and fluttering feathers.
But Pidgeotto didn't stop there. It flew to a smaller, separate tree nearby and pointed with its wing.
Ash looked up and saw a lone Pidgeotto nest, where a mother Pidgeotto sat protectively on eggs, while the father returned from the woods, carrying a few fruits.
Ash wonders why they live apart from the others.
Still, he didn't matter. He quietly activated his ability. A faint outlined each egg, displaying small text only he could see:

Ash narrowed his eyes thoughtfully.
"If my guess is right," he murmured, "the system's target… is that female egg."

"It's completed just like that," Ash said, a smile appearing on his face. "That was easy."
Then, a new mission appeared:

Then, a new message appeared:
