A sharp slap echoed through the quiet air, jolting Ameila awake. Her eyes fluttered open slowly, the world around her still hazy. The first thing she saw was a handsome man, kneeling in front of her, his expression intense but strangely calm. He had long, black hair that fell neatly around his face, and his eyes, those eyes were an unnerving shade of blue.
She blinked, trying to process his presence. "You're beautiful" she whispered without thinking, her voice hoarse from the confusion.
The man's lips curved into a small smile, though there was something unreadable in his gaze. "Beautiful?" he repeated softly, almost to himself. Then, his voice shifted, darker, more probing. "Is that what you say to your father?"
