Stellan Sutton met her examining gaze, his sword-shaped brows barely perceptibly furrowed.
In his daily work, the kind of people he disliked the most were those obsessed with appearances—superficial admirers.
Seeing this, team leader Claire Lynn cleared her throat and shouted to Eve Sherman, "Eve Sherman, why are you daydreaming? Hurry over here!"
Eve Sherman...
Stellan Sutton silently repeated the name in his mind, his gaze shifted slightly and settled again on her elegant face.
The name seemed familiar but the face was unfamiliar.
"Sorry, I'm late."
Eve Sherman sensed something off about the situation; this man had an extraordinary presence and was clearly a leader.
Everyone was there, and she was the only one late, not a good sign.
She put down what she was holding and quickly made her way to Claire Lynn's side, bowing her head sincerely.
Luckily, Stellan Sutton didn't say much and simply headed to his large office accompanied by a man and a woman.
"Tsk tsk, some people just try to grab attention in front of the president. That flirtation was way too obvious, wasn't it?"
Just as Eve Sherman was about to distribute materials, Liam Langdon at the adjacent workstation sighed sarcastically.
Was that person the president?
Eve Sherman furrowed her brows.
She had previously heard that Hess was planning to expand greatly in Ardane after acquiring Sterling, and the president would personally come back to oversee things.
She hadn't expected it to happen so soon.
"Young girls these days really are unrealistic, spending all their time fantasizing about catching a wealthy husband instead of focusing on their work. Look at their conditions—they're flat-chested and flat-bottomed."
Seeing her expression darken, Liam Langdon sneered and continued.
Since Eve Sherman transferred over, Liam Langdon had invited her to dinner twice, but she refused both times. Ever since then, Liam Langdon had been like a mad dog, always sarcastically provoking her.
"What's all the noise?" Claire Lynn quickly walked over, "Liam Langdon, Eve Sherman, come with me."
They followed Claire Lynn all the way into the president's office.
Stellan Sutton was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the scenery of Ardane.
Eve Sherman squinted her eyes.
This back view—you could compare it to the back of a large double-door refrigerator—where had she seen it before?
"Here's the situation: President Sutton has been working abroad for a long time and now that he's back, he needs a local business-savvy assistant. I reviewed the resumes; you three have the most extensive work experience and are top performers in this department. Who's interested?"
Female assistant Joshua Crawford stared directly at the three of them and asked.
Such a great opportunity, Liam Langdon immediately raised his hand, "Me! I've been with Hess for five years and I'm a local from Ardane. I've handled numerous businesses and have great stamina—available 24/7! Compared to females, I'm more suited for high-intensity work!"
Joshua Crawford's expression cooled upon hearing this.
"Sorry, there are no gender perks here," Joshua Crawford retorted with a blank expression, then looked at Eve Sherman and Claire Lynn, "What about you two? No interest?"
Claire Lynn shook her head in embarrassment.
She had a child at home; once work was over, she needed to take care of the child, making her unavailable 24/7.
Faced with such an opportunity, she had to painfully decline.
Eve Sherman thought for a moment and then stepped forward.
"I'm Eve Sherman. I've worked at the grassroots level and interacted with higher-ups; I'm proficient in all office software and meeting processes. In work, anything male colleagues can do, I can do too."
"Her."
Her words had barely fallen when Stellan Sutton, who had been looking at the scenery, suddenly said.
Joshua Crawford nodded, "Alright, Eve Sherman, starting today you'll move to the assistant's office and take over my tasks."
Liam Langdon's face flushed red with anger, yet he dared not say anything, glaring fiercely at Eve Sherman before leaving.
In the entire secretary department, Liam Langdon and Claire Lynn were considered veteran figures, whereas Eve Sherman, despite having three years at Sterling, still had relatively less experience.
With this kind of good fortune falling on her, there was naturally some dissatisfaction.
Claire Lynn patted Eve Sherman's shoulder, "You're excellent, among us you stand out in terms of work capabilities, you deserved this position, congratulations."
Eve Sherman pursed her lips and smiled slightly, "Thank you, team leader. I will do my best."
Liam Langdon scoffed dismissively, "Team leader, married too early, didn't you? If you were a few years younger, this position would be yours. Being competent doesn't matter, bosses like them prefer young and pretty ones, busy with work during the day and playing with the secretaries at night..."
"Have you said enough?!" Claire Lynn couldn't bear to hear such degrading gossip about female colleagues, her expression turned serious.
Eve Sherman smiled softly, then turned to Liam Langdon, "Senior, may I interpret your words as spreading rumors about the president?"
Upon hearing the mention of the president, Liam Langdon's expression changed, and he sheepishly shut his mouth.
Eve Sherman swiftly packed up her belongings, moved into the assistant's office, amid looks of envy and displeasure.
Joshua Crawford was also packing up, and didn't stop her work when seeing Eve Sherman arrive.
"Your transfer from Sterling indicates you have no problems with work capabilities. But there's one thing you should notice, don't harbor any delusions towards the president, focus more on work. For women, work and money are the most reliable."
