Chapter 2 - The Blood Pool

HELLO MY IMAGINARY OBSERVERS!

I did something new! I fell asleep!

Okay, okay, alright, it doesn't sound very impressive I admit but remember, I don't have a brain, so logicaly sleeping and awareness should be beyond me. So imagine my surprise when I started unconsciously piecing random memories together into hazy daydream! It was completely incomprehensible, yet extremely relaxing. As if I'd somehow compressed all the mess floating around in my nonexistent mind down into a bedrock of general understanding and me-ness!

In other news I'm caught in a whirl pool and am gonna die soon. At least I'm getting a lot of new memories because I keep bumping into my many of my siblings so many fun sensation.

Right! you probably want to know, how I know I'm in a whirlpool, it's mostly a guess based off the speed and curve of the current I'm caught in. It's not like can't see after all. As for if I'll die, that's also a guess. But it feels pretty likely that I'll ether get crushed by the increased water pressure when I reach the whirlpools center, or get smushed against whatever is at the bottom from the velocity. Cause I'm very squishy.

After a meaningless amount of time trapped in a whirlpool stealing random bits of decaying memories and generally sleeping. something strange happens. My skill reaches level ten and the Framework goes crazy.

Skill Level value above stable limits- ERROR!- Race, Class, Profession, all below stable limits. VOIDING-ERROR!- Cannot VOID, VOIDED organisms•••Resolving-Converting Skill Levels to Primal Energy.

Over Exposure to Primal Energy Detected- Chose a Refinment.

•Increase Race Level-0 To 1

•Bank As Potential- Increase The Value Of Next Choice.

•Evolve An Organelle.

Going from level zero to level one doesn't sound very useful, getting a better choice next time doesn't matter cause I'm gonna die when I reach the center of the whirlpool. So what are Organelles?

Digging through my stollen memories I eventually realized Organelles are the family name for my core, cytoplasm, and cell-wall. Basically it means anything and everything that's a natural part of a cell but only one chunk at a time.

So the third choice will let me ether improve one of my three organs, or possibly get a new one. Lacking any better options for survival and frankly feeling very curious I chose option three. Hoping for something cool.

Choice Selected, Make your 1 Choice.

•Cell Wall-Increase rigidity or flexibility.

•Cytoplasm-Increase density or fluidity.

•Nucleus-Increases durability or capacity.

Any additional information…no? Well Shit, this all seams useless…well mabye not useless, but it's not the complete invulnerability I was hoping for. Fine if I'm gonna die I at least want to be to wiggle in protest. You hear me Framework give me to option that'll let me move!

Increased Flexibility For Cellular Membrane Selected.

A ripple of discomfort runs through me as my perfectly spherical shape is ruined by my cellular membrane getting all wobbly. After a few moments I try doing something? And I wiggle!

wigglewigglewigglewigglewigglewigglewiggle…

After I wake up from spending to much energy needlessly wiggling in joy I contemplate my options. There's no way wiggling will let me survive getting crushed, no matter how fun it is to do. But what if I can evolve again a few more times? I pull up my Status Sheet

Some new stuff popped up but what's important is that Memory Thief is level one again. So if I can get it all the way back to level 10 reason states I should be able to evolve another Organelle.

How can wiggling help me with that?

-

Days pass and the Flexible Basic Cell draws incrementally closer to catastrophe. But it eventually learn how to swim, by narrowing its shap into a oval and wiggling just right the cell can minutely move in a given direction. Which in its cramped environment ware there's always one or two other cells within contact range, a little counter movement drastically increases the number of collisions the Cell could experience. And with every collision the little thief would steal what lingering memories it sibling's possed from there past lives. Fragments of fractured knowledge, mixing with discarded remnants of impressions and desire all building upon each other to create something.

Yes! Finally! Give me Evolution!

Seriously Framework! I work my membrane to a fine powder steeling all these memories and you don't even give me different rewards! Fine! Give me Flexibility again.

Increased Flexibility For Cellular Membrane Selected.

Once more my body ripples as my makeup shiftes incrementally to allow an even greater range of motion… except there's a problem my cytoplasm is to viscus to allow let me take advantage of my new range of motion! Sure my membrane is twice as flexible but I can't take full advantage of it! It's so aggravating! Wait, maybe that's why the choices were all the same? I've I evolved to have greater fluidity than I should be able to exploit having more flexibility! Well, I guess I'll just keep wiggling against the currant and releve any sibling I bump into of there lingering memories. Eventually I'll hit level ten In Memory Thief again. Then I'll evolve more and more!
