Chapter 16 - Chapter 14: The Costing Search

Welcome to the world that some call wonder, others call it the sorrow that rot away bones.

I unfortunately live in this world just like all the others, my fate written between lines that can not bend without a helping hand.

As the pen that writes my fate fades away into the distance my long story starts, with a flash of lightning from the sky.

Rain poured from the tearful sky, as a file filled with papers sat on my desk.

Opening it there a picture awaited, of a women, long gone.

Missing for the last two months without any leads, about to be thrown out into the mountains, files of cold cases.

I sighed in response, knowing that another case could disappear into the distance again.

Many young ladies have fallen, going missing ever week in the area, leaving almost no traces to where they could have gone.

It tugs at my heart strings thinking what could have happen to them.

The most latest news about, Lady Frapcino, was a lady with similar descriptions was seen near a alley nearby the dessert shop, HOLLENS DESSERT SHOP.

A very popular shop, that goes back for hundreds of years of service.

I pick up the file, with the little magic I had, then taking off from the desk to the ground.

As the file floated behind me, my paws made it's way over to the door.

My jaw grabbing onto a string, pulling open the door, walking out into the cold rotting hallway.

The floorboards creaked from use, years of many others walking, over and about, a place that used to be so lively.

That has fallen silent within a very few amount of years, I can still remember my seniors and the juniors, that sat across from me.

We ate together, we discovered together, but with one change everything fell apart.

Everyone left, one after another, leaving me behind to handle everything here, with no help from anyone.

As I exited the building the neon lights hit me first, then the rustling of people scrapping together of what little they had.

Pasting by them, the file still floated behind me as I made my way from a lonely street, to a overly flowing street.

People hustled and bustled, booze shot from one side to the other on the street, people laughed.

The neon signs bigger and brighter, almost blinding, making my way through the crowd, I walked into a long flamboyant building.

It reeked of alcohol, which made my nose twitch from the pudent smell.

Taking the back exit of the building, into a alley way, following the right wall until I finally made it out.

A street filled with, not people, but fancy shops all aligned together.

I went down the street, paws hitting the ground one after the other, not in a fast way, but in a way that shows no rush.

Minutes passed of walking, when the HOLLENS DESSERT SHOP finally brew it's fangs, appearing from the corner.

Stopping in front of it, I looked at the long line of people in suits, all of them are, no doubt.

Are from the hierarchy that love the desserts from here, they never moved or looked at me as I raised my paws and walked passed.

Just like how all of them where trained from the beginning of there lives, it's saddening to look at them, waiting there.

Once I made my way pass them all the alleyway I was searching for appeared.

The floor was ridden with what looked like mold, trash was scattered about.

For such a fancy street you would think the cleaners would clean this part up to, but no.

I sat before the alleyway debating whether or not to use my magic, to make myself float, to only come to one conclusion.

Just take it and walk, so I did, all the way down, searching every inch of the alley for any hints or clues.

From the corner of my eye I seen what I was searching for, a hint, or even evidence.

With that being said time stopped, and in the distance I could hear the faint noise of dice.

Hitting the ground, then words shot through my head, twelve.

After that words of agony sweetly made it's way to my ears, telling me the sweet sensations that could have awaited me.

My limbs started to move again, and like nothing happen I continued.

Female clothing fragments where scattered not to far into the alleyway, pulling over the file.

Looking back in, at the picture, the clothing fragments looked to match what Lady Frapcino was wearing.

When the report first came into custody, I gathered the fragments with magic, opening a small space and throwing them in for later testing.

Shortly closing the subspace, I could already feel the weight of using magic on my small nimble body.

In the distance again I could hear the faint noise of rolling dice again, with the following words being, ten.

Again, I continued like nothing happened at all, it made me want to question my existence.

Was I truly real? Or is this some type of sick game?

The use of magic could lead to people seeing and hearing things that shouldn't be real.

So I simple dismissed everything to my own little sick game, that my body made, not thinking much of it.

Searching once again in the alleyway I unfortunately did not find anything that could other wise hint to Lady Frapcino.

Making my way out of the alleyway, I rushed back towards the old worn out office.

Back through the alleyway following the left wall, back into the back exit, back through the flamboyant building.

Back into the bustling drunk sicken street into the lonely sweet velvet draped street.

All the way back to the office building that used to have so much glory, that now is covered in dust from head to toe.

Opening the door with magic, I could feel the mustiness hit me, as I walked back in to where I first open my eyes.

Into this horrid ridden world, of joy and sorrow, that knows no bounds, that does not know how to stop.

How the years have passed...

Once I made my way into the room I closed the door behind me with magic, I sat the floating file down at the desk.

With a short moment I put the fragments of clothing I found to the test.

Putting all together back into one piece again, it was of no doubt from Lady Frapcino dress.

After closely looking over it, I put a sample into a machine that would be able to find anything DNA related on it.

The machine twisted and turned, then outputting, we'll get back to you in 2 business days.

Even if someone's life is on the line, they all put it off, those higher ups will get everyone killed at this rate.

Simply sighing, I took the rest of the fragments of the clothing, that was left over.

I summoned a circle with words that would turn a normal person.

Throwing the left overs on, with a few short words, find them.

My magic shot out the door, disappearing, leaving behind a small trail behind to follow.

Doing this could get me in serious trouble, after all using certain magic without permission from higher ups.

Could very likely get you killed, or tortured even, for more simple words it's like treason.

Without doing this though, in that amount of time, anything could happen.

I followed the traces even further, into the more rural areas that surround the city.

Trees and floral grew out every where, getting around got even harder to do.

Tripping was a normal, my own paws couldn't keep up with the terrain, that overreached.

That wrapped itself around me, wanting to throw me away from the truth.

Something no one could make me step down from doing, even if it costed everything.

The floral got thicker and thicker as I went further away from the main city, I could see in the corner of my eye young children.

Looking at me, ready to take anything from me, anything that could help fill there stomach.

It's terrible, but there's nothing I can do for them, it would be like giving them useless hope for the future.

Even if it's true though, why do we have to be so cruel?

I might not be the same species as those humans but I do have a stomach to.

Stopping in my tracks I looked back towards the children, with horror passing over, my own fur stood up, as I watched.

They killed the youngest among them.

There was no use for me in looking back I knew that, so I looked back towards the trail left behind by the missing person.

Following it until, I finally found the missing person I was looking for, battered and bruised.

Sitting next to a tree, mumbling like a maniac, so I walked over, right when I got near Lady Frapcino looked at me and outstretched her arms.

Mumbling the words die, die you hateful creature, die you ungrateful creature.

In the end there was no helping her, before she could even grab me foam poured from her mouth, as she fell.

Her eyes where left open, blood shot, continue to mumble hateful, dreadful words, until her last breath.

Opening one of my small subspace I take out a camera and take a picture of her now cold body.

It's unfortunate, yes, but at least the family will know, even if it's bad news.

The truth was solved like that, and that is how most cases go.

Every single missing person case always ends the same, with the missing person in question going insane and dying.

Putting the camera back into the subspace, I open another large enough for her body to go in.

After all it is only right to bring the body back right?

Many times it was unnecessary to do.

With all of that done I made my way back to the office, knowing the truth of what happen to a lady.

Maybe I could have found her more quicker.

There's no use thinking over what has already happen though, there's more to do back at the office.

That is where the costing search ended with the only cost being the peace of mind, that maybe things could get better.
