Chapter 3 - The Mission Begins

It's already been one hour that we've been walking in the forest with no direction. Ragnor stops and says, "I'm tired of seeing you naked!"

Ren sighs and replies in a nonchalant tone, "I'm not naked. I'm wearing royal leaves."

Ragnor gets angry and says, "Your leaves only cover one part of your body."

Me: "Stop arguing, this isn't the moment."

Ren: "My slave is right, this is not the moment to argue with a pathetic being like you."

Ragnor snaps and gets ready to hit Ren. But Ren dodges the blow easily and trips him with a foot sweep. Ragnor stumbles and falls brutally to the ground. Ren laughs and says in a superior tone, "Say thank you, you've just found your mother who is the ground."

Humiliated, Ragnor mutters, "I'm going to kill you, you arrogant bastard."

Ren shakes his head and answers, "That's not how you speak to an emperor. You really need to learn respect, inferior being."

After Ragnor stands back up with his nose bleeding, we continue walking.

Me: "I have a question. What does the princess look like and what is her name?"

Ragnor smiles confidently and answers, "She's a beautiful elf with blue eyes and blond hair. She's cute, charming and—"

Ren interrupts and says, "Stop presenting her as if she were perfection itself. The only perfection incarnated is me."

Ragnor grits his teeth and clenches his fists before saying, "Her name is Princess Mélanie."

After another long hour of walking, we arrive in a small town called Grison. The town is lively and pretty. There are large magnificent houses and mountains.

Me: "Wow, this town is really beautiful."

Ragnor answers, "Sure, this town is beautiful, but the cost of living is extremely high. That's why people call it the city of the rich."

Ren smiles and says, "Finally, a town worthy of my perfection."

As we talk, I notice people staring at Ren. Surely because he is almost naked.

Ragnor mutters, "See now? Everyone is watching us because of your nudity."

Ren smiles and starts posing like a model.

Ren: "What are you talking about? They're observing my feline perfection."

Me: "Ren, stop, it's really embarrassing and we're here to find the princess."

Ren stops and gives me a mocking smile.

Ren: "If you want me to stop attracting attention, you and Ragnor must kneel and beg me to stop."

Now he's going too far, but I sigh and obey his order. Ragnor, desperate, obeys as well.

Ren mocks us and says in an arrogant tone, "Good, slaves, let's continue our path."

After this humiliation and awkward moment, we went to a clothing merchant for Ren. Ren took 30 minutes to choose his clothes but he finally made up his mind.

He took a dark green cape attached with a round brooch at the shoulder. A long dark tunic with a wide brown leather belt with a metal buckle. A second leather strap worn across the torso (a harness). Dark leather gloves and dark pants matching the tunic.

I think: "The world is really cruel. My cat is more stylish than me."

Ren comes toward me, showing off in his outfit, and says, "Your school uniform is worthy of a slave, and mine is worthy of an emperor."

Annoyed and frustrated, I shout, "Shut up."

While we're arguing, the merchant interrupts and asks, "It costs 5 gold coins. Who's going to pay?"

Ragnor looks in his pockets and only has 2 gold coins.

Ren: "Uhm. Since I am a king, I can have it for free. You should even feel honored that I wear your merchandise."

The merchant gets angry and pulls out a dagger: "Give me my money."

I panic and decide to use my Invisibility power and flee.

Ren: "Unworthy slave. Abandoning your lord in such a situation."

But even Ragnor runs away.

Ren mutters, "I can't believe these inferior beings abandoned me."

Ren sighs, and thanks to his cheated stats, he gives a powerful punch to the merchant's stomach. The merchant collapses unconscious, and Ren leaves.

After this little misadventure, we meet again in an alley. Ren is sulking.

Me: "I had no choice, I was too scared, understand me. Besides, my stats are terrible."

Ren: "Okay, I forgive you, slave, but I order a massage."

Ragnor, furious, says, "Stop your nonsense. We keep messing around. And we haven't even found a single clue about the princess. Where is she?"

Ren: "It's also your fault, you gave us very little useful information. And I remind you that we're new."

As another argument was about to start, I spoke up and said, "Arguing is useless. Ragnor, tell me when and how the princess was kidnapped."

Ragnor explains everything. One week before our arrival, the princess was kidnapped by masked people.

Me: "Before the princess disappeared, did you have problems with anyone?"

Ragnor nods and says, "The beastmen. The beastman king wanted to marry the princess. The problem is that the princess didn't want to, and the queen refused."

After finishing, Ragnor understands what I'm trying to say.

Ragnor: "That means the beastmen kidnapped the princess."

Ren smiles and whispers in my ear, "You're not that useless, slave."

Ragnor stands up and says in an angry and determined tone, "Tomorrow we'll go to the Black Forest and free the princess."

Ren: "I have a question. Is it far?"

Ragnor: "It's 50 km from Griston."

Ren sighs and mutters, "That's 12 hours of walking. But at least I'll get a reward if we free this princess."

After the discussion, we went to several inns to try to negotiate to sleep for free. And we got lucky. One inn agreed to host us for free.
