Chapter 53 - "Senzu Beans: An Unexpected Gift"

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Thanks to Harry stepping in, the awkward tension finally lifted, and the Cat Hermit could breathe again.

At least Gine and Celari weren't grilling him anymore like they were about to interrogate him down to his ancestors.

After a short exchange, the three of them properly introduced themselves to the Cat Hermit.

Harry used the moment to quietly begin plotting.

After all, he came here for one reason: senzu beans.

In the Dragon Ball world, there's nothing more broken than these things — not even the Dragon Balls themselves.

And unlike the Dragon Balls, senzu beans are Earth's own treasure, not a creation of Namekians.

But… how exactly was he supposed to get his hands on them?

He couldn't just blurt out, "Hey, give me senzu beans." How would he even explain how he knew they existed?

Just as he was struggling with how to bring it up —

Grrrrooowl~~!!!

While they were admiring the view at the top of Korin Tower, Celari's little tummy suddenly growled loudly.

Feeling her hunger, Celari's face flushed red. She stuck her tongue out at Harry and Gine.

"Auntie Gine, Brother Harry… I'm hungry. Can we go back to the Lookout and eat?"

Her straightforward cuteness made Gine smile. She nodded and glanced at Harry.

Harry nodded as well. "Yeah, we barely ate anything today. If I'd known, we could've grabbed a big meal in West City before coming back."

As he finished speaking, he turned toward the Cat Hermit, still trying to figure out how to bring up the topic of senzu beans.

But before he could speak, the Cat Hermit suddenly said:

"I don't really have much to offer guests… but if you're hungry, I do have something that can take care of that."

Before any of them could react, he walked to the side, picked up a large jar, opened it, and scooped out a few beans.

"These are senzu beans I've cultivated with great care. Eat just one, and you won't feel hungry for ten full days."

Harry's heart skipped a beat.

Wait… that's it? They're just handed over like that?

All that scheming, all that planning — apparently unnecessary. He'd spent all that mental energy for absolutely nothing.

Gine and Celari both took one of the beans and examined them curiously.

"Ten days without feeling hungry? From such a tiny bean? That's amazing!" Celari stared with disbelief.

"Is that really true?" Gine asked. She'd never seen anything like it.

Not that she doubted him. Ever since arriving on Earth, she'd seen more bizarre things than she could count.

There were Dragon Balls that granted wishes — a bean that killed hunger wasn't that strange.

Besides, Saiyans also had cultivation seeds for Saibamen. They weren't edible, but they were also tiny beans with special functions.

"You'll know once you eat it," the Cat Hermit said proudly.

Harry immediately popped his into his mouth.

He knew exactly what senzu beans did — no way they were poisonous.

Seeing him eat it, Gine and Celari followed suit.

Once the beans hit their stomachs, Celari's hunger vanished instantly, replaced with a strong feeling of fullness.

Harry and Gine, meanwhile, felt their fatigue evaporate as their energy surged back to full.

"Harry, Celari, how do you feel?" Gine asked, looking between the two.

"Auntie Gine, I'm not hungry anymore at all! And I feel super strong! This bean is amazing!" Celari said with delight.

Harry nodded with a thoughtful expression. "It really is incredible. It doesn't just stop hunger — it restores stamina too."

"You noticed after just one bean. As expected from strong warriors," the Cat Hermit said proudly. "Yes, senzu beans don't only fill the stomach. Even if someone is badly wounded, eating one will heal them instantly…"

He hadn't originally planned to reveal that.

But since they already noticed its effects, there was no point hiding it.

And he brought the beans out because the three had come here with pure intentions; as the host, he felt he should at least offer something.

"It heals injuries too?!" Gine's eyes widened.

Earth was becoming stranger and more amazing by the day.

Who knew what other surprises it still held?

"Looks like I underestimated senzu beans," Harry said. "To cultivate something this extraordinary… you really are a remarkable master. I wonder if you'd be willing to part with some of these? If you need anything in return, I'd be happy to trade."

The Cat Hermit nodded. Building a friendly relationship was exactly what he wanted.

He had also been observing Harry's group these past days, making sure they weren't evil.

If they had been, he would've never shown them senzu beans, much less offered any.

"Giving you some is no problem. They're difficult to grow, but over the centuries I've stocked up quite a lot," he said, leading them down to a lower level of the tower.

This was where the senzu beans were stored — a dozen or two large jars lined neatly.

Opening any one of them revealed hundreds, if not thousands, of beans inside.

So many senzu beans…

Harry immediately thought about a certain fat swordsman he knew from the future.

Knowing how precious senzu beans were, and that guy still ate them like snacks until they ran out…

Just thinking about it made Harry furious.

But he couldn't show it on his face.

He was on Earth in this era now — he'd make sure that disaster never happened again.

When that time came, he'd keep a close eye on Yajirobe.

"These smaller jars here each have about five hundred beans. Take one with you. If you need more later, you can always come back. Though… if you could bring me some fish next time, that would be great. As you can see, there's nothing up here on the tower. I rarely get fresh supplies…"

Harry hadn't expected him to be this generous.

And asking for a little fish? That was barely even a favor.

"Thank you, Cat Hermit," Harry said sincerely.

Compared to a certain Namekian guardian, this guy's generosity was on another level.

"No need for thanks, no need," the Cat Hermit waved his paw.

Then his expression suddenly changed. His fur puffed up in alarm.

He shouted a warning — but it was already too late.

Harry and Gine turned sharply toward the sound.

Celari, curious about the larger jars on the other side, had opened one of them.

And the moment she lifted the lid, a suction force burst out, pulling her straight inside.

Harry and Gine froze in shock — then bolted toward her in a panic.

"..."
