The rain had stopped by Tuesday afternoon, leaving the streets around St. Jude's Academy slick.
Dimitri walked out of the main gates, his bag slung over one shoulder, his expression as flat and unreadable as ever. To any passing student, he looked like the same cold guy who excelled in every seminar and ignored every social circle. But beneath the calm surface, his instincts were screaming.
He didn't look up, but his grey eyes tracked the reflection in the puddle near the curb.
A black sedan. Unremarkable. Standard government issue plating. It was the third time he had seen the exact same vehicle since yesterday morning. When he crossed the street toward the transit station, a man in a plain grey jacket adjusted his posture, pretending to read a notification on his phone but keeping his vision locked entirely on Dimitri's movements.
They're here, Dimitri thought, his jaw tightening just a fraction.
