The red laser dots didn't slide off his chest. Dimitri stood entirely still, his arms loose at his sides, staring at the snipers with boredom that didn't belong to any fifteen-year-old on the planet.
Hanalei panicked. Before anyone could draw a breath, she threw herself sideways, blocking him completely.
"Dad, stop!" she screamed.
Kieran's expression went instantly dead. The sight of his daughter putting herself in the direct line of fire shattered his posture for a fraction of second.
"Move, Hanalei."
She shook her head, her posture locked. "No."
It was the first time she had ever said that word to him. The absolute first time.
Behind him, the agents looked visibly uncomfortable.

Aurielle had once screamed at an entire security division because someone had accidentally startled Hanalei during a drill.
