The morning sun hit the terrace.
Kendella picked up her porcelain cup, as she took a small, elegant sip of her Earl Grey. Across from her, Anya was using a small silver fork to break apart a croissant, though she hadn't actually eaten a single bite of it.
Between them sat me. My hands were folded tightly in my lap, my gaze fixed on the manicured lawn below, completely motionless. My tea had gone entirely cold.
"I honestly don't understand why, out of all the people in this family, Cassian decided to target me the second his flight landed," Kendella said, breaking the heavy silence with a deliberate sigh. She set her cup down with a soft click and rubbed her temples. "For hours , all I've heard about is glaciers and whale migratory patterns. He tried explaining climate shifts to me at breakfast like I was the one who personally invented greenhouse gases."
