Alzred's POV
"I only did that to escape him from killing me in front of everyone; how could you say such a thing to me? I hate you!" she screamed as she ran inside.
I stood in the same position for a few seconds, and my head assimilated what I had just heard. I felt cold blood run through my spine as I became confused about whether I should be happy or sad.
Happy because there would be no circumstances between us, and sad because I'd hurt her.
I followed her hastily into the house as she ran to a corner, crying. I kneeled before her and held her hands, speechless on how to begin.
"Aurora," I said, finding my voice. "I'm so sorry that you had to go through all of that. I apologize for being stupid because it takes only a stupid person to behave the way I did. Please forgive me." I begged.
"You didn't even give me a chance to explain myself; you totally behaved like I didn't exist."
"Please forgive me," I said while holding her hands close to my chest.
"It's fine, but," she paused, "what was the meaning of what you said?" She asked, staring straight into my eyes.
"What did I say?" I asked as I prayed silently that it was far from what I thought it was.
"You said that you wouldn't be with me till the end." Her voice broke down. "What did you mean by that, Alzred? You're making me scared; there's something about you that you don't want to tell me, and it's hurting me."
"Aurora, Aurora." I called, trying to stop her from talking.
"No! Don't call me; don't stop me from talking; allow me to pour out my pains." She paused. "Or are you ready to speak out? Are you ready to tell me the truth?"
I darted my eyes away from her, as I couldn't bring myself to stare at her.
"I guessed as much; you won't! You wouldn't just! And you expect me to tell you every damn thing about me? So selfish!" She yelled and walked out of the room.
I watched her get out of sight without stopping her. I lacked words in my mouth, and it wasn't the right time to spill the beans.
I couldn't watch her break down because of the stupid decision I made in the past. I promised to help her accomplish her goal and be by her side till my last breath, and I will do it.
The skies had gotten dark and cloudy; it was sunset, and I hadn't laid my eyes on her. I stormed into the forest in search of her.
I couldn't call her name because I knew she would refuse to answer me. The rain began to pour as I drenched underneath a tree for shelter when I heard distant chattering.
It was the voices of men arguing as I crawled carefully, facing the direction the sounds were emerging from.
They were all dressed in a particular uniform and had weapons on. It was clear that they were guards, but from which pack? What were they doing here because we were so far from any pack territory and it takes a powerful pack to have guards in uniform?
"I'm tired, or are you ready to lose your life because of a damn order? I heard one of them say:.
"But we can't return to the pack without her." The other responded, and it was clear to me that they were in the forest for something.
"But we don't have to return." The first man said it, looking tense.
"Can you even hear yourself speak? If you don't return to the pack, where do you intend on going? The second man asked again.
"My mother's pack," said the first man.
"What?" yelled the others.
"My mother was a member of a neighboring pack before my father found her on his way to haunt; they became friends, and on the mating day, they found out that they were mates."
"Wow, such a touching story." The second man mocked. "How do you then intend on going back to your mother's pack when no one knows you there and she's dead? I hope you realize that your mother was a member of the last century, and we are in another."
"It doesn't matter; I still have the address to her family house, so you shouldn't bother about me but yourselves." He scoffed and walked away, leaving the remaining.
"What do we do from here? because obviously we can't return without that girl," one of them said.
"Why don't we tell him that she's dead?" The other was suggested.
"You fool, he gave an instruction to bring her either dead or alive." The second one spoke.
"Oh, no! Why does this girl always find a way to get people in trouble? She caused Sam's death, and now this? If I should see her right now, I'll just kill her with my bare hands.
At that moment, I was so eager to find out who they were talking about. I had a feeling that I knew who they were here to find, but Aurora never mentioned that the guards in her pack were dressed in uniform.
"We should give up and tell him; we heard a story about a young girl who was eaten up by a wild animal, and with the description given, it happened to be Aurora." The last man said:.
My ears stood at the mention of Aurora's name as I began to wonder where she was. I bent a little to change my position due to some part of my body becoming paralyzed when I recognized a linen dress.
She squeezed herself into a tree hole and covered her hair with the tip of her dress.
"Aurora, Aurora! "I whispered, but she was too far away to hear me.
I threw a stick, trying to get her attention, when one of them spoke. "Did you hear that?"
