Chapter 51: What is Death Afraid Of?
It's hard to say if Death was getting desperate, but Stewie certainly was.
When he saw the giant meteor falling from the sky, a bad premonition arose in his heart.
Although he wanted to see Chris struggle a bit, he absolutely did not want this interesting big brother to die, especially not indirectly because of his actions.
As endless dust filled the air and Stewie lost sight of Chris through the feed, he anxiously searched for any available items nearby, wanting to save Chris.
"No, no, no! Chris, don't die! I'm still waiting for you to get back so I can gloat!"
Through his wristband detection, Stewie found that Chris's life signs were critically low, and he estimated that he would completely die before long.
Realizing this, Stewie acted with increasing urgency. He picked up his tools and began to modify and activate the hibernation pod that housed Chris's dimensional travel ability.
With his big brother on the verge of death, Stewie's abilities were pushed to their limit. The hibernation pod before him changed shape several times in an instant, like a scene from a Looney Tunes cartoon.
After the final transformation, Stewie raised his hand and threw the dragon blood beverage he had been drinking into the pod... which should now be called a temporal transporter.
Then, Stewie activated the temporal teleportation device, and over twenty bottles of dragon blood beverage were sent to Chris's location via the wristband connection.
The dying Chris sensed the foreign objects by his hand. Like grabbing a life preserver, he used all his strength to move his shattered fingers and flick his broken bones.
With a soft pop, the plastic bottle containing the dragon blood beverage broke, and the orange-red liquid inside gushed out.
As the beverage spread over Chris's body, his still-living cells eagerly absorbed the high-energy liquid.
As one bottle of dragon blood beverage was absorbed by Chris's arm cells, his index finger had completely regrown and could barely move freely.
Using his index finger, Chris slowly dragged his arm towards the remaining dragon blood beverages, then used his index finger to forcefully puncture the bottle caps, allowing his cells to absorb the energy within.
By the time over twenty bottles of high-energy beverage were completely absorbed by Chris, most of his body had finally recovered, temporarily saving his life.
However, this was not enough; Chris still needed more energy to fully restore his body.
The massive explosion caused by the meteor's impact was too powerful. Although Chris was far from ground zero, his body was still devastated by the shockwave.
Over ninety percent of his body's cells had their activity obliterated by the blast; otherwise, Chris wouldn't have been sprawled on the ground like melted wax.
If Stewie hadn't provided cross-dimensional support, Chris was prepared to wait a bit, then force his still-active cells to cannibalize his damaged tissue to preserve his life as much as possible!
But with Stewie's support, Chris wouldn't be reduced to such a pathetic state.
"Hey, Stewie? Are you listening? Can you send some more dragon blood beverage over?"
Chris sat up. He still had two legs, one arm, and unimportant areas like his ears and nose that hadn't been fully repaired.
So, after realizing he had used up all the dragon blood beverage, Chris spoke into his wristband, hoping Stewie would hear him.
Meanwhile, Stewie in the Family Guy World had already gone to get more beverages after sending the first batch.
At this moment, Stewie, pushing a hand cart, happened to hear Chris's request and said with an exasperated laugh, "I really should have let that idiot figure it out himself. Does he think I'm not already on it?"
Despite his grumbling, Stewie still loaded the two cases of beverages from the cart into the temporal transporter and activated the transmission again.
As the beverages in the transporter disappeared, the two cases appeared before Chris.
"Damn it! I really should have given this guy some kind of storage device; carrying these beverages is truly exhausting!"
Seeing Chris in the projection pick up a beverage and drink it, Stewie sat down in a chair, fuming. Then he realized he had forgotten to save a bottle of dragon blood beverage for himself to replenish his energy.
After Chris drank three more bottles, all his cells were fully restored to their original state, and he said with deliberate emphasis, "Thanks, Stewie! I'll repay you well when I get back!"
Stewie heard Chris's promise of repayment and laughed excitedly, completely oblivious to how ominous Chris's tone was.
"Hahaha, this guy is still so grateful; it wasn't in vain that I helped him so much."
The happy Stewie had forgotten who was responsible for Chris enduring so many hardships in the first place, and he hadn't considered how suspicious it was that he had exposed his knowledge of Chris's predicament multiple times.
So, in Chris's mind, Death, the tool, had to be dealt with, and Stewie, the mastermind, also needed to face some consequences.
After saying those perfunctory words to Stewie, Chris picked up the remaining dragon blood beverages and walked out into the smoke, completely naked.
Because the dust raised by the meteor's impact was too dense, Chris was completely disoriented, so he decided to walk out of this dusty area first.
After cellular regeneration, Chris's physical potential was re-stimulated, and with the replenishment from the dragon blood beverage, his physique was now even stronger.
He didn't know the specific increase in strength, but when he was desperately fleeing earlier, Chris could clearly feel that he had broken the sound barrier.
This indicated that Chris's current speed was at least over three hundred meters per second, extremely close to the speed of sound at 340 meters per second.
Such an exaggerated speed meant that even if Chris was just walking casually, he had already reached his previous maximum sprint level.
That is, a speed of over a hundred meters per second.
But now, this speed could only be considered normal, not even a warm-up.
However, even if Chris walked at this speed for several tens of minutes, he still hadn't left the smoke-shrouded area. The dust cloud ejected into the atmosphere covered the sun, making the land dim, like an apocalyptic scene.
Seeing this, Chris no longer insisted on finding Iris.
Not to mention that the paranoid woman might not have any information about Death that would be useful to Chris, the impact of such a large meteor would cause panic among civilians living in the nearby states.
Iris might even relocate because of it.
After all, the more chaotic a place, the easier it is for Death to strike.
That woman was extremely cautious and would certainly not overlook any danger appearing around her.
So, after considering these factors, Chris decided to return to civilization first and then carefully analyze the extreme attack Death had launched against him.
Chris had a strong feeling that he must have done something, something that could threaten Death.
That's why Death was so desperate, directly dropping a meteor to eliminate him.
Chris didn't know if Death's actions came at a cost, but even if there was no cost, it definitely meant that Chris had done something that made Death panic.
Now, what he needed to do was figure out what that thing was, and then do it a few more times.
By doing so, he could detect more of Death's weaknesses and see if he could directly eliminate Death itself!
