Chapter 125 - Chapter 125: Digging Your Own Grave

Chapter 125: Digging Your Own Grave

The next morning, Stewie woke up in the master bedroom.

Looking around, he didn't see Chris. Stewie touched his growling stomach and left the room.

As soon as he reached the living room, he saw Chris and a few others talking.

"Master, are you really not taking the Brotherhood's fortune? This is serious money." Wesley flipped his laptop in front of Chris.

On it, a dazzling display of the Brotherhood's accumulated wealth over a thousand years was recorded.

Although before Sloan, due to the Brotherhood's code, their pursuit of wealth wasn't aggressive.

Even so, the Brotherhood, which wielded serious firepower, had still built up a substantial fortune.

If converted to current US dollars, it could pull in at least hundreds of billions in assets, and that's even at a fire sale.

And if you include Sloan's earnings over the years, that number could jump by half, bringing the total to over one hundred and fifty billion dollars.

However, facing this mind-blowing wealth, Chris barely glanced at it, then noticed the time on the computer, and immediately waved it off, "Forget it, you guys split this money."

Everyone caught the subtext in Chris's words and immediately focused on him.

But before Chris could explain, Stewie jumped onto the coffee table and shouted, "I'm starving! Someone get me food!"

This sudden interruption killed everyone's curiosity. Wesley, as the lowest-ranking person there, quickly ran to the fridge, grabbed a bunch of snacks, and ran back.

"Mr. Stewie, please eat these to hold you over. Let me know if it's not enough."

Stewie casually picked a can, ignored Wesley's brownnosing, and shoved it directly into his hand, demanding he open it.

Wesley didn't mind, still acting like a total kiss-ass.

Since he didn't have a can opener, Wesley went into adrenaline mode and ripped open the can with brute force.

"Here you go, Mr. Stewie."

Watching his son's behavior, Cross was extremely curious about how his son had changed so drastically.

When they'd talked yesterday, Cross had already determined his son had undergone a complete transformation in two days.

He'd changed from the wimpy, pathetic loser of the past into the capable guy he was now.

But as for what specific training Wesley had gone through, what hell he'd endured, to cause such a dramatic change...

Cross didn't dig too deep, and Wesley didn't elaborate.

However, judging from the current situation, it was worth paying attention to.

After Stewie's attention was drawn to the food and he stopped interrupting, Chris continued, "Stewie and I aren't from your world. We'll be leaving before long, so this money's useless to us."

Wesley, who was serving Stewie, heard Chris confirm this himself, and even though he'd suspected it, he still looked shocked.

Fox had already been blown away before, so her expression stayed neutral; instead, she was thinking about how to live her life going forward.

Pekwarsky, on the other hand, looked like he wanted to say something but held back. Given his status and his relationship to Chris and the others, he clearly had no voice here.

So after thinking it over, Pekwarsky still kept quiet and turned to play with his little pet: a small mouse.

After a moment of surprise, Cross quickly accepted Chris's explanation.

After all, Chris had already killed Fate, so what else was there he couldn't accept?

"Whew, I'm stuffed." Stewie put down the can, let Wesley wipe his mouth, then sat on the coffee table and asked, "When are we leaving? Can you nail down the time?"

"Well..." Chris scratched his head awkwardly. He was just about to explain to Stewie, but he didn't expect the guy to start getting homesick after eating.

"What's wrong? You didn't screw something up again, did you?" Stewie narrowed his eyes, looking at Chris with suspicion.

"Ahem, well, haven't you forgotten? We haven't finished our business yet, so we can't leave now." Chris coughed lightly, his eyes avoiding contact.

Stewie frowned. He couldn't remember anything else they had to do.

Based on his past observations, Chris could usually leave directly as soon as he dealt with the movie threats related to him.

Even last time, when he couldn't leave the John Wick universe, it was because of quantum entanglement with the Wendigo, which caused Chris to be anchored to the world and unable to leave.

So why this time? Was he being held back by some other unknown entity again?

"Don't waste your brain cells. I've already figured out the reason."

"What is it?"

"Remember when I bragged about clearing the 'London Underground' mission?"

"What does that have to do with it?" Stewie said without thinking, then immediately caught on.

"Don't tell me your dimension-hopping ability took that seriously!"

Looking at Stewie's exasperated expression, Chris smiled and nodded. This was the only way to avoid being too embarrassed.

Because he hadn't expected that something he'd just casually said would be taken literally by his dimensional travel ability.

After all, his travel ability came from his own powers, not some system, so how could it give him missions?

But weirdly, in Chris's perception, the reason they couldn't return was precisely because of this.

Only by having Wesley complete the 'London Underground' mission, just as Chris had boasted, could Chris's ability activate and take him and Stewie out of this world.

If not, then they'd have to wait for Stewie to hand-build a dimension-travel machine and leave this world by using it.

After listening to Chris, Stewie frowned deeply, saying with difficulty, "Let's rely on your ability. Building a machine is way too much hassle."

Wesley, after hearing their conversation, already looked completely lost.

That was one of the five major world powers!

Asking him to take on England—was he sure he wouldn't get blown to bits by those naval cannons?

Cross, beside him, remained poker-faced, because he didn't understand what Chris was talking about at all.

From his understanding, Chris needed his son to do something, something like playing a game, so when he thought of Wesley's current abilities, he didn't find it that difficult.

Chris shifted his focus, looking directly at the terrified Wesley, "I dug this hole, so naturally, I gotta fill it. You don't need to stress too much."

Saying that, he gently patted Wesley's arm, reassuring him he didn't need to be so nervous.

But despite saying that, Chris had already decided that if he couldn't return after doing everything possible, then he'd have Wesley go through with it in person.

However, he hadn't yet figured out all the limitations of his dimensional travel ability, nor had he determined the scope of its restrictions, so naturally he couldn't do much more for now.
