Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 : Reflection Beneath the Water

The maze shifted again.

At first, it was a soft vibration under their feet — then a ripple. The floor that had once been solid glass turned liquid. The sound of dripping water filled the air.

"Not again…" Jet whispered.

Tony looked down. "The floor's—"

Before he could finish, the ground gave way.

With a splash, all six of them were pulled under.

They screamed as the cold water swallowed them, dragging them deeper and deeper until there was no air, no light — only the sound of their own hearts pounding in their ears.

They struggled to swim, but the water wasn't water at all. It was heavy, thick — almost alive. It wrapped around them, pulling them apart, whispering as it carried them down into the dark.

And then—

they were no longer drowning.

They were somewhere else.

Samy

She gasped and looked around. She was standing in the school hallway — bright, loud, full of students. Her clothes were dry. For a second, she thought she had escaped.

Then she heard the laughter.

A group of senior girls stood near the lockers, whispering and giggling.

"Oh, look who's here," one of them sneered. "Still wearing those cheap shoes?"

Samy froze. The air turned cold, the laughter sharper.

It was them — the same girls who had bullied her years ago.

Her younger self stood nearby, clutching her bag, trying not to cry.

"Why am I here?" Samy whispered. "This already happened…"

The girls surrounded her younger self again. "You're not like us. You'll never be pretty enough, never popular enough."

Samy stepped forward. "Stop it!"

But they didn't hear her. The scene kept playing — like a memory that refused to end.

Tears filled her eyes. "It's not real… it's not real…"

But the pain was.

Tin

The echo of music filled the air.

Tin blinked and found himself on a small stage. Guitars, drums, microphones — the music club room.

He smiled for a moment, remembering — then saw his friends turn away.

His old bandmates whispered among themselves, shaking their heads.

"He ruined it," one said. "He messed up the performance — because of him, we lost."

Tin's younger self stood frozen, shame written all over his face.

He stepped closer. "No… that wasn't my fault. I was scared, I—"

But his voice broke as he saw the disappointment in their eyes. The sound of the guitar faded, replaced by silence.

He could feel it again — the guilt, the fear of failure, the loneliness.

"I should've just said sorry," he whispered. "I should've tried again."

The lights went out. Only his reflection remained — looking back with tears in its eyes.

Jet

She opened her eyes to laughter — familiar laughter.

She was at the café she used to visit every weekend, sitting with her old friends.

But something was wrong.

They were talking about her — right in front of her. Whispering. Smiling fake smiles when she looked up.

"She thinks we actually like her," one of them said, smirking.

"Yeah, she's just good for answers and free rides," another giggled.

Jet's chest tightened.

"No," she whispered. "You said we were friends…"

Her younger self laughed along with them, not realizing the truth.

Jet felt her throat burn. "How could I not see it?"

The café lights flickered. The smiles of her friends twisted — their faces melting into blank reflections.

"Because you wanted to believe," a voice whispered behind her. "You always did."

Tony

He stood in the old school courtyard, the sound of kids laughing filling the air.

But it wasn't friendly laughter.

His younger self was there — taller, louder, shoving a smaller boy into the mud.

The boy cried, clutching his books.

Tony stared in horror. "No… stop it. I didn't know better back then. I—"

"You enjoyed it," the voice said, cold and sharp.

The younger Tony laughed cruelly, as if mocking the older one. "You liked the power. You liked being feared."

"I changed!" Tony shouted. "I'm not him anymore!"

But his reflection just grinned, eyes empty. "Then prove it."

The smaller boy looked up — and for a moment, Tony saw his own face staring back at him.

Roger

The sound of waves.

The smell of rain.

Roger's heart froze.

She was standing on the old bridge.

Her brother — small, smiling — stood beside her, holding a paper boat.

"Let's race them!" he said, laughing.

Roger's hands trembled. "No… not again."

The sky darkened. She could feel the wind picking up, the slippery edge under her shoes.

She reached out, trying to grab him — but her body wouldn't move.

Her younger self slipped. Her brother grabbed her hand.

And then — just like before — he fell.

Roger screamed. "NO!"

But the water below swallowed him again, and the sound of her scream echoed endlessly, bouncing off invisible walls.

She dropped to her knees, sobbing. "Please… I can't lose him again."

Kim

A soft melody echoed around him — a piano playing somewhere nearby.

He looked around and saw a familiar classroom.

His sister sat at the piano, humming the same tune she used to play before she vanished.

He froze. "...Soo-jin?"

She turned and smiled. "You came."

Kim ran to her. "Where are you? What happened to you?"

But when he reached her, she wasn't real. His hands passed through her like smoke.

Her smile faded. "You promised you wouldn't follow me here until you were ready."

"I had to!" he shouted. "You disappeared! I needed to find you!"

She looked at him with sad eyes. "Then find yourself first."

Her image shattered like glass — and he was left alone in silence.

The water began to rise again, swirling around each of them, dragging them back toward the surface.

As they were pulled upward, the same voice spoke, low and echoing through the currents:

"Your past binds you. Your guilt feeds me. Only by facing it… can you escape me."

And then — with a blinding flash — they were thrown out of the water, gasping for air.

They landed on cold stone, soaked, trembling, surrounded once again by the maze.

The water was gone. The mirrors were cracked.

But something had changed in their eyes.

They had seen the truth — and now, the maze knew exactly what to use against them next.
