Chapter 56 - [56] - Two Feet

Fred and George, who had originally wanted to make one last desperate struggle, ultimately failed to master the Scouring Charm in one night. Of course, what made them completely give up was Albert's remark: "Filch might not even allow you to use magic."

The next day, in Charms Class, Professor Flitwick checked everyone's practice. Compared to the Gryffindor students, very few Hufflepuff students had successfully mastered the Lumos Charm.

Professor Flitwick took five minutes to review the content taught in the previous class, then began to explain the counter-charm for Lumos—the Nox.

"The Nox can not only extinguish the Lumos Charm on a wand, but it can also extinguish ordinary light sources," Professor Flitwick said, pointing to a candle on the table, picking up his wand, and gently tapping it. "Nox."

The candlelight went out, as if someone had reached out and pinched it.

"As you can see, the incantation for the Nox is Nox, and this spell is also suitable for extinguishing burning flames."

"Lumos," Professor Flitwick said after casting the spell, and a pale light shone from the tip of his wand. "Nox." After the Professor of Charms cast the spell again, the light on his wand disappeared once more.

After Professor Flitwick finished explaining the Nox in class, he left the remaining time for everyone to practice the spell.

"Lumos… Nox." Albert succeeded after several attempts. To further verify the effect of the spell, he also conjured a candle for himself, lit it, and began to try extinguishing the flame on the candle.

"I succeeded too." Lee Jordan was in a good mood. After more than a dozen attempts, the spell successfully extinguished the light on his wand, and then he mimicked Albert in extinguishing the candle flame.

According to Professor Flitwick's description, extinguishing a raging fire is more difficult than extinguishing the Lumos Charm.

"So annoying!" Fred was still struggling to master the Lumos Charm, and he wasn't the only one; some other students in the class were in the same situation.

In the end, only three people successfully extinguished the light on their wands, and Hufflepuff's Diggory was one of them.

Before Charms Class ended, Professor Flitwick assigned new homework: an essay report on the Lumos Charm and the Nox, which needed to be at least two feet long, due before class next Monday.

George muttered softly, "Two feet long—Professor Flitwick must be crazy!"

For young wizards who had basically never written an essay, or rather, had barely touched a quill, writing a two-foot-long parchment was a difficult challenge; it wasn't easy even to find enough words to fill a two-foot-long parchment.

"Actually, this kind of essay report is very simple." Albert glanced at George, looking as if he was making a mountain out of a molehill. "You just need to copy the origins of the Lumos Charm and the Nox, then write about the problems you encountered while learning the Lumos Charm, then go to the library to find some knowledge on the subject and copy it down, and finally write some concluding remarks. That should be about two feet long."

In fact, Albert knew very well that Professor Flitwick didn't expect the first homework assignment from the first-years to be particularly good.

In essence, this essay was just to help everyone understand the Lumos Charm and the Nox better, deepening their understanding and application of the spells.

In his previous life, Albert had written many similar things in college. Although a long time had passed, he still had some understanding of them.

"That simple?" Lee Jordan's eyes widened in disbelief at the news.

"That simple?" Alicia glared at him fiercely and scoffed. "When you start writing, you'll find it's not that simple. But thanks to Albert, now I know what to write on that two-foot-long parchment."

Halfway there, as the group discussed the Charms Class homework, a discordant voice suddenly spoke up.

"Are you sure what he said is correct?" A Hufflepuff student interrupted with a strange tone.

"At least, it sounds much more reliable, doesn't it…?" Fred and George exchanged glances, walked over to the Hufflepuff student, and each put an arm around him, saying, "Perhaps Albert has already gotten a little hint from Professor Flitwick."

"Let go of me." The Hufflepuff student struggled vigorously but couldn't break free from the Weasley twins, who held him firmly.

"Oh, well, don't be so tense." Fred let go of him, patted him twice on the shoulder, and watched the fellow scurry back into the Hufflepuff line, unable to help but laugh triumphantly.

"Stop it." Diggory glared at the twins in warning.

"We didn't do anything, Diggory. We were just having a simple chat with him." The twins said, each putting an arm around his shoulder. "Isn't that right? We didn't do anything—who knows why he suddenly got so nervous."

"Alright, let go of me." Diggory also looked helpless. He knew, of course, that the twins' friendly way of interacting wasn't malicious towards him, but others might not think the same.

"He looks terrified of you," Lee Jordan couldn't help but whisper.

"Nonsense, we didn't scare him. Be careful, we might sue you for slander." Fred and George had expressions that said, We didn't do anything, he just scared himself.

In fact, they really hadn't done anything.

Albert was amused and suddenly felt like laughing. However, he thought the twins' actions weren't really wrong, as they hadn't done anything, and it was just the other person misunderstanding.

"Speaking of which, when do we have Flying Class?" Angelina suddenly asked.

"Not sure. I heard Gryffindor first-years have it on Thursday afternoon. When Flying Class is scheduled, it will be announced on the common room bulletin board." Fred thought for a moment and added, "Charlie is recruiting reserve players recently. If you like Quidditch, you can try out. Reserve players have a chance to get close to a flying broom, but becoming a regular player depends on yourself."

"When?" Angelina asked, her eyes lighting up.

George said without hesitation, "This afternoon, you can go to the Quidditch Pitch and talk to Charlie."

"You're not really going to join the Quidditch team, are you?" Alicia looked at her roommate in surprise.

"Hmm, I want to give it a try."

"We still have Transfiguration Class later," Sanna mumbled softly. "I hope Professor McGonagall doesn't give us any more homework."

However, everyone was destined to be disappointed.

Even if Professor McGonagall didn't give them homework, they still had to continue practicing Transfiguration.

However, Professor McGonagall said that next week she would check their progress in turning a match into a needle. If they still couldn't make the match change, someone would probably be in trouble.
