In her quiet bedroom, Kate closed the door softly, tossed her purse on the bed, and immediately grabbed her phone. She needed to vent to someone who would understand, and so she dialed.
"Hi, Danielle. How are you?"
Danielle's polished voice floated through the speaker.
"I'm good. Went shopping with my mom this afternoon. She wants me to look extra elegant for the engagement dinner next month." Then, with a light laugh, continued, "You know how she gets."
Kate forced a smile that Danielle couldn't see. "Yeah,sounds nice. How was your day?"
"It was fine," Danielle replied. "What about yours? You sounded tense on text."
Kate exhaled dramatically.
"It went well, or as well as it can go after what happened at the club tonight."
Then there was a bit of silence."Why? What happened?" Danielle asked.
