Chapter 8 - Winning The Bet

The 1200 novices thought that since they were to use 25 minutes to cover 6 miles, the road would be clear, but to their surprise, they had to go through the dense forest, which was filled with deadly creatures and also traps that could threaten their lives. Screams could be heard from all over the place. Some decided to return to their training field and receive their punishment while others like Bradley and the ice princess continued the journey smoothly. Since most of the novices were already level 1 Body Refiners, they managed to keep going. Some couples had perfect chemistry while others were like water and oil. Completely incompatible.

"Hey, by the way, I'm Bradley."

The ice princess who was focused on the way ahead didn't say anything. Bradley, who was kinda embarrassed by her cold response, kept quiet and continued to run with.

"I'm Elaine, but you can call me El." She suddenly replied about 10 minutes later. Bradley acted as if he didn't hear and continued running with.

"Hateful." She murmured to herself. Bradley smiled when he noticed the expression of Elaine. He felt good about getting his revenge on her.

Bradley stopped running abruptly, which caused Elaine to nearly fall. Just as she was about to lash out at him, Bradley placed his hand on her mouth.

"Shh!!" He closely observed his surroundings and smiled. He drew closer to Elaine and began to whisper in her ear. When she felt the closeness of Bradley to her and his warm breath around her neck, her cold, beautiful face reddened a little with a blush. Bradley, who was too focused, didn't notice, and that made her sigh in relief.

"We are surrounded by several elite groups who are trying to stop us from completing this race. I would like us to go our separate ways. You will focus on the race while I cover you from behind. What do you say?" Bradley asked her. Elaine was surprised by Bradley's revelations.

"What makes you think that you can take them down?"

"Although we both may be Level 2 Body Refiners, I'm way more dangerous than you can ever think of."

"How did you know I'm a Level 2 Body Refiner?" She was surprised by this mysterious guy.

"No need to waste time on that. Now it's left with 18 minutes, do what I suggested, and we will win this race. I know that you are not a normal novice like the others, so do what I say." He said

"Okay, I will trust you this once."

After saying that, she left his hand and left Bradley with a gallop speed.

Bradley placed on a mask and started his move.

"The prey his going to hunt the hunters. How interesting it is." With an evil smile on his handsome face, he thought.

The cry of some of the novices could still be heard. Some of them were crying for help, while others were also struggling with the elite team, which was ambushing them in the dark morning.

Bradley closely followed Elaine to make sure she wasn't intercepted or ambushed.

"Here they come." With Leonora around, Bradley got to know where all those elite team members were hidden. He moved towards the one closest to him, who was hiding in a tree ready to attack Elaine.

"Ahh!" The guy was knocked out by Bradley, who appeared behind him on the tree. He supported the guy's unconscious body with a tree branch so that he wouldn't fall and injure himself.

"Puff!!"

The moment he got down from the tree, he heard that sound from behind.

"Oops!" He smiled and continued his hunting.

As time went on, the number of hunters was increasingly decreasing. It wasn't only the cries of novices that could be heard this time around, but also the hunters.

Elaine, who was focused on running carefully, avoided the traps that were her way. She met several couples trapped net hanging on a tree or a pit that they couldn't crawl out of. She knew that she had to reach the mountain top in the next 2 minutes if she wanted to win, so she pushed herself to the limit and passed the couple you were currently leading

They looked at her with pity because they thought she was going to be punished

even if she wins.

Elaine stopped running when she was about a meter from ascending the mountain.

"Where is this rascal?" She turned her back out of frustration, and that was when she saw a handsome guy with a beautiful yet manly face. Whose black, shiny, silky hair was dancing in the air

as he ran towards her with a smile on his face. She couldn't help but smile back at him. He gave her his hand, and she held it firm. They climbed the small mountain together, and when they got to the top, they turned off the red light together. The lid of the touch opened, and they saw a key in it. Bradley took it and descended the small mountain with Elaine.

When some of the novices saw the red turned off, they became elated that this hellish race had finally come to an end while others were furious.

On the way back with the winning couple, the surviving hunters ambushed them again, and this time, Elaine suffered from a sneak attack from one of the hunters, which decreased her strength to carry on. It was left with just 3 minutes before the 25 minutes given to them were exhausted. She couldn't lose this one, so she helplessly asked Bradley to carry her.

Bradley gladly did what she asked her to by carrying her on his back. He had finally won the bet between them, which was that the one who would ask for help from the other to complete the race would owe the other a favour that her or she couldn't back off on when the favour is asked.

Bradley, whose agility was 54, which was comparable to that of a level 5 or 6 body refiner, used approximately 156.2 seconds to get to the training field.

When the Corporal and his other nine Elite Adepts saw Bradley running towards them with Elaine at his back, they were taken aback. First, this couple were the last to leave this place, and with one carrying the other, how were they able to pass the hunters and traps they set to reach here before the time was even up?

Bradley carefully placed Elaine down and walked towards the corporal.

"Sir, my partner and I bravely travelled from here to the small mountain peak through all obstacles to return with this key, under 24 minutes, 23.8 seconds, sir!" Bradley gave his report and brought the key.

"Let's wait for the other before I make the announcement." Although Corporal Gabriel didn't want to admit but he clearly knew that Bradley was extraordinary.

Bradley returned to Elaine's side

"What do you want?" She indifferently asked.

"Why are you in such a hurry? I won the bet, so I get to choose when I want to cash in the favour I won from the agreed bet."

She looked at him with hateful eyes.

Bradley enjoyed annoying her.

"How do we make a bet in every training session we have?" He suggested with an evil grin on his handsome face.
