Chapter 9 - The Way She Sees Me

The Way She Sees Me

On 27 April 2021

My crush proposed to me.

It's one of the most comforting feelings in the world—to realize that the person you admire, the one you've been quietly loving, feels the same way about you.

That night, I couldn't stop thinking about her.

I lay in bed, smiling for no reason, hugging my pillow like an idiot… replaying every moment in my head.

Sleep came late, but happiness stayed.

Next Morning

The moment I woke up, one thought hit me instantly—

"What am I going to wear today?"

After all, it was officially our first day of dating.

I wanted to look good… worthy enough for her.

I tried on shirt after shirt, standing in front of the mirror, judging myself from every angle—but nothing felt right.

Then my mom walked in and said,

"Just wear a T-shirt, it's too hot outside."

And honestly, I couldn't argue with that.

So, I ended up wearing a simple white T-shirt.

 At Tuition

I reached a bit early.

And there she was—Neetu—

sitting alone in another classroom.

I walked in quietly and took the seat beside her.

She was writing something in her notebook, earphones in, completely lost in her own world.

And me?

I was just… looking at her.

Her soft brown hair, her deep black eyes, the way that yellow T-shirt somehow made her glow—

I couldn't look away.

She was, without a doubt,

the most adorable person I had ever seen.

I blinked, confused.

"Huh? Started what?"

She gave me that look—half amused, half done with me.

"What else? The class, obviously… Harshu."

I paused for a second.

"Harshu? Since when did that become my name?"

She smiled, a little teasingly.

"Since I decided it is."

"Don't you think that's a bit too generous?"

"Maybe," she shrugged softly,

"but I like it."

And just like that—

my heart melted a little more.

Inside the Classroom

We walked in together.

Saniya was already sitting on the first bench,

so Neetu went and sat beside her.

I quietly took a seat one bench behind them.

She turned around immediately,

"Why are you sitting there? Come sit with me."

I hesitated, glancing around.

"Everyone's here… they'll notice."

She rolled her eyes,

"Oh my God, you overthink too much. No one cares—and even if they do, what's the problem?"

"Come sit with me."

I tried to brush it off,

"I'm not worried about that…"

But that was me bluffing.

The truth?

I wasn't worried about myself—

I was worried about her.

About what people would say…

about her being with someone like me.

To them, I wasn't just careless—

I was the troublemaker, the wayward kid, the one people kept their distance from.

She leaned back slightly, still looking straight at me.

"So… are you coming here, or should I come there?"

At that point, I had no choice.

I stood up and walked over, sitting beside her.

I could feel eyes on us—whispers, murmurs all around.

But none of that mattered…

Because she was looking at me.

Continuously.

And the moment our eyes met—

my heart skipped,

and my cheeks turned warm.

After Classes

Physics and Chemistry ended.

Then Ankit walked in for the Mathematics class.

He leaned toward Saniya and whispered something.

The next moment,

both of them shifted to the second bench.

Me and Neetu looked at each other, confused,

then turned around to talk to them.

Saniya instantly got shy and looked away.

I smirked a little and asked Ankit,

"Since when did you two start dating?"

He grinned,

"Details are classified… but yeah, we got together after you guys."

Then he added,

"Just think of this class as a double date."

Me and Neetu froze for a second—

completely expressionless.

Double date?

That was… unexpected.

Mathematics Class

The mathematics class had started.

The teacher was busy solving complex numbers on the board, his voice fading into the background for me.

Neetu leaned slightly closer and asked softly—

"Why do you care about me so much? I know you're worried… about what others might think of me."

I stayed quiet for a moment, unsure how to answer.

Then I gently changed the question,

"What were you writing in your notebook… in the other classroom?"

She didn't reply.

Instead, she quietly slid her notebook toward me.

I opened it slowly…

And my eyes stopped at the words she had written—

"He's not a delinquent or a troublemaker. In fact, he is the kindest person I've ever known.

He's my beloved… ~Harshu"

For a moment, everything around me faded.

The noise, the classroom, the world—

none of it mattered anymore.

Only her words did.
