Boss's Office.
Chris suddenly stood up.
"Riley, you're resigning?" Chris' voice carried disbelief.
"Yes."
"I don't agree."
"Riley, can we not act impulsively?"
"I'll pretend I never saw this resignation application. Let's calm down first."
Chris tore the notice Riley handed over, panic filling his eyes.
He quickly walked toward Riley and reached out, wanting to grab her hand.
Riley slowly stepped back.
"President Chris, allow me to remind you."
"When I joined this company back then, we never signed any labor contract."
"And the document I just gave you was a notice, not an application."
"If there's nothing else, then I'll leave first."
"President Chris…goodbye."
Riley kept her head lowered the whole time she didn't dare look into his eyes.
"Knock knock—"
Anna's soft voice came as she walked in.
"Chris, look, I made this cake. Try it."
Riley glanced at the cake Anna held and smiled faintly.
"Secretary Anna, I've already sent you all the work handover content. I'll leave the rest to you."
Riley turned and walked out of the office.
"Riley—!"
Chris was still calling after her.
"Chris, what's wrong with Riley? Is she still mad about last night?" Anna blocked Chris from chasing after her.
Chris stared at Anna's face, then at Riley's distant figure, and in the end, he didn't go after her.
Riley's Office.
Riley silently packed all her things.
When everything was emptied, Riley quietly stared at the star-shaped ornament on the desk.
The stitching on the ornament was crooked and uneven, it was something Chris personally sewed for her birthday.
All these years, Riley had treated it like a treasure.
Riley's gaze lingered there for a long time.
"Thud—"
The star ornament landed in the trash can.
"Knock knock—"
Riley looked at the figure at the doorway. It was Jason.
Jason had been their classmate back in university. When she and Chris first started the company, they couldn't find a trustworthy partner, Jason volunteered himself back then.
Riley remembered how he had always been the simple one in the class.
She also genuinely believed his values and abilities were good, so she brought him into their startup team.
Jason looked guilty, and gently placed a matcha latte in front of Riley.
"Riley… I'm sorry… I didn't mean to."
Riley smiled faintly and exhaled softly.
"It's not your fault." Riley shook her head.
She picked up the box on her desk and walked past Jason.
"I'm leaving. Work hard."
Parking Lot.
Riley sat in the driver's seat and let out a long sigh.
"It's over. It's all… over."
Launch Enterprise was built with Riley's youth and blood.
Every detail, every document, every proposal was something Riley personally polished and created.
And just like that… it was gone.
Though she felt unwilling, Riley knew she didn't want to stay there anymore.
Seeing Chris and Anna together… Riley was scared.
Scared that she wouldn't be able to control herself…
"Ring—"
Her phone ringing interrupted her thoughts.
Riley raised her hand and answered the call.
"Hello."
"Riley… are you okay?"
Avery's mature voice sounded by her ear.
"Avery? Why are you calling me?" Stars lit up in Riley's eyes, emotion returning to her voice.
"I'm back." The background behind Avery was very noisy.
"I'm hanging up first, I'm heading to your place."
Riley stared at her phone as the screen dimmed again, confused, then started driving home.
Riley Palmer's apartment.
Riley looked at May Miller who was still sound asleep, and the corner of her lips slightly curved up.
"Lazy pig."
Ding dong--
The doorbell rang.
Riley looked toward the door, puzzled.
"Why are you pressing the doorbell? Don't you know the password?"
Riley opened the door.
The tall figure in front blocked her sight.
Riley slowly raised her head, looking at the man with sharp and defined features in front of her, and her heart started to beat faster.
This was exactly her type.
Riley slowly snapped back, slightly smiling.
"May I ask who you are?"
The man in front of her looked a little nervous, his hand subconsciously tightening.
"Hello, I'm your neighbor living right across from you. My name is Adrian Carter, I came today just to say hello."
Riley looked toward the opposite door and nodded.
"Oh, hello. I'm Riley Palmer. Just call me Riley. If you need anything, feel free to come find me."
Adrian reached out his hand, looking at Riley.
"I'll be in your care from now on."
Adrian slightly bent down, smiling as he looked at the small girl who was a whole head shorter than him.
Riley looked at his long, defined fingers, a little excited as she reached out.
"In each other's care, Adrian."
Riley closed her door. Through the peephole, she watched Adrian close his door.
"Riley, who was that?"
May Miller's soft voice suddenly sounded behind her.
Riley was startled, and her foot slammed right into the door.
"Ouch!!"
Riley's eyes turned slightly red as she hopped over toward May.
"No one. Just the neighbor across saying hello."
May repeatedly nodded, "Oh."
Beep beep beep
Riley and May both looked toward the door.
The two looked at each other tacitly, raising their eyebrows.
"Where did these two go?"
Avery Fills placed down the bag in her hand with slight disdain.
She familiarly opened the shoe cabinet and took out her own pair of slippers.
"May, Riley?"
Avery shouted loudly.
The only response was the rustling of the leaves.
"Where did these two run off to, seriously not letting people worry less."
As Avery spoke, she opened her phone and looked at the three-person group chat.
[Where did you two go?]
Buzz buzz
Avery looked at the phone lighting up on the coffee table, and became puzzled.
"You even left your phone here?"
Suddenly, Avery felt someone tapping her shoulder.
Avery froze in place, not daring to move.
Avery suddenly clasped her hands together and cried out.
"Heavens bless me, I still have elderly above, and two best girlfriends below to raise. I haven't done anything harmful to heaven and earth…"
Avery closed her eyes, not daring to look around anymore.
"Hahahahahahaha--"
"Look at her, I told you she would get scared."
May Miller held her stomach, lying on the ground laughing.
Riley walked to the entryway and turned on the dim light.
Avery lightly slapped May lying on the ground, hating iron for not becoming steel.
"May!"
Riley leaned against the bar counter, watching the two of them joke and mess around.
The two heard Riley's laughter and immediately pounced toward her.
"And you."
All three rolled on the ground, looking at the ceiling.
The three tacitly avoided mentioning Chris Carter's name.
"Riley, should we go out and happy tonight?"
May propped up her head, looking at Riley in the center.
Riley suddenly sat up, not responding.
"What are you saying this for? Our Riley is a big female lead, with her mind only on her career. Not like you, knowing nothing but fooling around all day."
Avery lightly played with Riley's hair.
"Let's go! Who said I'm not going?"
The two looked at Riley who suddenly stood up in shock.
"Today I officially notify you both. I! Riley Palmer! officially quit."
"Quit?" Avery's tone was full of disbelief.
"Riley, are you serious?" May hurriedly held Riley's arm, looking at her worriedly.
They all knew what Launch Enterprise meant to Riley.
"Fine! Then we'll rest first. And then rise again later!"
May jumped, raising one finger to the sky, declaring.
Avery lightly smiled as well, playing along with her nonsense.
"Rise again!"
