Chapter 411 - T20 World Cup 2016 - 8

The Eden Gardens did not quiet down. If anything, the noise amplified, transforming from a tense, suffocating roar into an unadulterated, joyous carnival.

The immediate aftermath of Siddanth Deva's World Cup-winning six was a blur of energy. The 65,000 fans inside the Kolkata amphitheater were dancing in the aisles, waving tricolor flags so vigorously that the stadium looked like a turbulent, surging ocean of blue and saffron.

Down on the pitch, a massive podium was being swiftly assembled by the ground staff. A red carpet was rolled out across the lush, dew-soaked grass, and the glittering silver ICC World T20 Trophy was placed on a pristine pedestal at the center of it all.

Live Broadcast - Post-Match Presentation

Ravi Shastri's booming, unmistakable baritone echoed through the stadium's PA system, cutting through the roaring crowd.

"Ladies and gentlemen, what a night! What a tournament! Before we crown the champions, let us take a moment to acknowledge a team that has revolutionized white-ball cricket. Please welcome the runners-up, Eoin Morgan and the England cricket team!"

The English players walked up to the podium, their faces etched with the bitter sting of defeat. Despite the heartbreak, the Kolkata crowd showed immense class, offering a standing ovation as Morgan's men received their silver runner-up medals from the ICC officials. Eoin Morgan spoke briefly, acknowledging India's dominance and Siddanth Deva's flawless execution under pressure, before leading his team off the stage.

"And now," Shastri boomed, his voice rising an octave, sending a fresh wave of electricity through the stands. "The moment you have all been waiting for. The host nation. The invincibles of 2016. Please welcome the ICC World T20 Champions... INDIA!"

The stadium erupted with a concussive roar. MS Dhoni led his team up the steps. Each player leaned forward to receive their gold winner's medal. Virat Kohli was grinning from ear to ear, kissing his medal the moment it was placed around his neck. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya looked awestruck, taking in the magnitude of their first World Cup victory.

Siddanth walked up. He smiled warmly, thanking the officials as the heavy gold medal was draped over his blue jersey.

"Before we hand over the trophy," Shastri announced, "We have the individual awards. The Player of the Tournament. The MVP. Frankly, ladies and gentlemen, this was not a debate. It was a landslide."

Shastri looked down at his cue card, shaking his head in sheer disbelief.

"Three hundred and thirty-three runs at a strike rate of 215. Seventeen wickets at an economy rate of under six. He has redefined what is possible in a twenty-over cricket match. The Player of the Tournament is the Vice-Captain of India... SIDDANTH DEVA!"

The chant of "DEEE-VAAA! DEEE-VAAA!" shook the fiberglass roof of the stadium.

Siddanth jogged up to the center of the podium. He accepted the sleek MVP trophy—a heavy, stylized crystal cricket ball—and shook hands with the dignitaries. Ravi Shastri immediately stepped in with a microphone.

"Sid," Shastri bellowed with a massive grin. "333 runs. 17 wickets. A World Cup on home soil. Has it sunk in yet?"

Siddanth adjusted the microphone stand, looking out at the roaring sea of blue. "Not quite, Ravi bhai. To be honest, my ears are still ringing. This crowd... Eden Gardens is something else. You can feel the vibrations in your chest when you're out there."

"Take us through that final over," Shastri pressed. "Fifteen runs needed, and then suddenly, four balls to spare. You finished it in a blink."

"We knew what the equation was," Siddanth replied smoothly. "Mahi bhai and I just wanted to take it deep. We ran hard, and when Stokes missed his length on that last delivery, I just trusted my swing. But honestly, this isn't just about the final over. It's about the bowlers restricting them to 148, and the platform Virat built in the middle overs. It's a complete team effort."

"Well said," Shastri nodded. "Who do you want to dedicate this massive achievement to?"

Siddanth looked directly into the main broadcast camera. "To the fans, first and foremost. Your support over the last month has been our twelfth man. I want to thank my parents back in Hyderabad, who are probably having a heart attack watching this right now. And my friends... the people who keep me grounded when I step off the pitch. This one is for all of you."

"A massive round of applause for Siddanth Deva, ladies and gentlemen!"

Siddanth smiled, gave a quick wave to the crowd, and stepped back to join his teammates, who immediately patted him on the back and ruffled his hair.

"And finally," Shastri roared, stepping aside. "The ICC World T20 Trophy!"

The ICC President picked up the glittering silver cup. MS Dhoni walked forward, his face carrying that signature, stoic smile. He accepted the heavy trophy, hoisting it into the air for a brief, obligatory second as the flashbulbs went off in a blinding strobe effect.

But true to his legendary nature, Dhoni didn't linger in the center.

He immediately turned around, walked over to the back row of the team, and shoved the World Cup trophy directly into the hands of the two youngest squad members—Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.

As the youngsters hoisted the cup, screaming in delight while a massive explosion of golden confetti rained down from the stadium roof, Dhoni slipped entirely out of the camera frame.

He walked over to the edge of the podium, standing quietly next to Siddanth.

"Good speech," Dhoni muttered affectionately over the noise of the celebrations, slinging an arm around Siddanth's shoulder. The two shared a bond that went far beyond captain and vice-captain; they were essentially brothers.

"Good captaincy, Mahi bhai," Siddanth fired back, offering a wide smirk. "Running two on that fifth ball was risky. Thought your knees were going to give out."

"I knew you'd hit the next one out of the park anyway," Dhoni chuckled softly, ruffling Siddanth's hair. "Enjoy it, Sid. You earned this."

Once the formal confetti pictures were done, the team descended from the podium for the traditional victory lap around the massive Eden Gardens outfield. They carried the Indian flag, waving to the thousands of fans who refused to leave the stadium.

As they rounded the boundary near the Club House end, the stadium DJ cranked up the volume, blasting Dwayne 'DJ' Bravo's viral hit song, "Champion."

Virat Kohli, whose adrenaline was still running at absolute maximum, immediately started doing the signature "Champion" dance, stepping side-to-side and rolling his arms. The crowd went absolutely wild.

Kohli wasn't satisfied dancing alone. He grabbed Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina, pulling them into the impromptu dance floor on the grass. Then, Kohli locked eyes with Siddanth.

Kohli sprinted over, grabbed Siddanth by the jersey, and dragged him right into the center of the circle.

Siddanth laughed, tossing his MVP trophy to a passing staff member. The beat dropped.

Everyone in the dressing room and the die-hard fan base knew Siddanth had phenomenal rhythm, so the crowd roared in massive anticipation. He didn't disappoint. Siddanth flawlessly executed the Caribbean dance moves with perfection, matching Kohli step-for-step.

Standing a few yards away, holding a single stump, MS Dhoni just shook his head and chuckled warmly at the sight.

The lap concluded with dozens of individual and group pictures with the trophy. Siddanth took a picture with Kohli, another with the bowling unit, and finally a solo picture holding both his MVP award and the World Cup, biting the gold medal around his neck.

The VIP Box

An hour later, the dressing room was a hazard zone of spilled champagne, energy drinks, and blasting Punjabi music.

Siddanth took a quick, cold shower to wash off the sweat and the sticky champagne residue. He changed into a fresh, dark blue Indian team polo and track pants. He slipped his gold medal into his kit bag and grabbed his phone.

"I'll be back in twenty," Siddanth shouted over the music to Virat, who was currently taking selfies with the trophy.

Siddanth slipped out of the dressing room, accompanied by two heavy-set bouncers provided by the BCCI, and made his way up through the labyrinthine concrete corridors of the Eden Gardens. Word had already spread that he was moving.

Every ten feet, he was stopped.

"Phenomenal innings, Siddanth!" Shah Rukh Khan called out from a VIP corridor, pulling the cricketer into a warm, brief hug. "Absolutely magical!"

"Thank you, Shahrukh bhai," Siddanth smiled respectfully.

He navigated past politicians, BCCI officials, and former players, accepting handshakes and congratulations with polite, practiced ease. Finally, he reached the heavily guarded, tinted glass door of the private corporate suite secured under the name 'NEXUS.'

He pushed the door open.

Before anyone else could react, a blur of white and blue launched across the luxurious room. Krithika ran straight at him, throwing her arms around his neck in a fierce, breathless hug.

Siddanth smiled and wrapped his arms tightly around her waist, lifting her slightly off the ground, burying his face in her shoulder.

"You did it," Krithika whispered into his ear, her voice thick with pride and relief. "I knew you would."

"Had to," Siddanth murmured back, setting her down gently but keeping one arm wrapped securely around her waist. "Couldn't let you fly all the way to Kolkata just to watch me lose."

She pulled back, looking up at him with shining eyes, and lightly punched him in the chest. "You couldn't have finished it fast? You had to wait until the last over? Do you know what my heart rate was, Mama's Boy?"

"Where's the fun in finishing it early?" Siddanth winked. "Gotta give the broadcasters their money's worth."

Only after greeting her did he turn his attention to the rest of the room.

"THE DEVIL HIMSELF!" Sameer roared at the top of his lungs, rushing forward and pulling Siddanth into a bone-crushing hug.

Arjun stepped up next, offering a firm, brotherly embrace. "MVP. Thirty-three boundaries in the tournament. The Vibe servers nearly melted down when you hit that final six, Sid. The tech team had to reroute power from the backup grids just to keep the app online."

"That's your job, CEO," Siddanth laughed, patting Arjun's back. "I just hit the ball."

Feroz walked over, handing Siddanth a cold bottle of water. "Incredible stuff, Sid."

"Sid!" Anjali chirped, having finally put her vlogging camera down. "That was literally the coolest thing I've ever seen! My phone hasn't stopped buzzing since you hit that six."

"Thanks, Anju," Siddanth smiled. "Glad you guys could make it. The atmosphere down there was insane."

He spent the next twenty minutes relaxing in the VIP box, eating some food that Feroz had saved for him, and simply soaking in the normalcy of his inner circle.

Eventually, his phone buzzed. A text from Virat: Bus leaving in 10. Get down here.

"Duty calls," Siddanth sighed, standing up and stretching.

"Go party," Krithika smiled, standing up with him. "We're flying back to Hyderabad tomorrow morning. See you at the farmhouse?"

"Definitely," Siddanth nodded, pulling her into one last, tight hug. "I'll call you tomorrow."

He said his goodbyes to the NEXUS crew and slipped back out the door, returning to the chaotic reality of being the Devil of Cricket.

The team bus ride from Eden Gardens to the ITC Sonar hotel was a riot. The streets of Kolkata were lined with tens of thousands of fans, chanting, waving flags, and launching fireworks into the night sky. The bus had to crawl at a snail's pace, escorted by a massive police motorcade.

Inside the bus, Yuvraj Singh had commandeered the auxiliary cord, blasting Punjabi rap music while the players danced in the aisles.

Upon arriving at the ITC Sonar, the team was ushered into a massive, privately booked banquet hall. The BCCI had arranged a spectacular party. Bollywood stars, politicians, and team sponsors filled the room.

Siddanth grabbed a glass of champagne. While many of his teammates were already quite tipsy, Siddanth remained perfectly sober.

He spent the night mingling, taking hundreds of selfies, and talking cricket with former legends. He spent a solid hour sitting at a table with MS Dhoni, Gary Kirsten, and Stephen Fleming, discussing talking with eachother.

The party raged on, but by 1:00 AM, the adrenaline crash finally began to hit.

Siddanth quietly slipped out of the banquet hall, taking the private elevator up to the penthouse floor that had been secured for the senior Indian players.

He keyed into his luxurious suite, locking the heavy mahogany door behind him. The sudden, silence of the room was a stark, almost jarring contrast to the last ten hours of his life.

He walked over to the minibar, poured himself a glass of water, and collapsed onto the plush king-sized bed. He stared at the ceiling, letting out a long, heavy exhale.

We actually did it, he thought, a deep sense of satisfaction washing over him. The ghosts of the 2015 World Cup Final in Melbourne were finally put to rest.

He closed his eyes, preparing to let his Perfect Rhythm pull him into a deep, restorative sleep.

But suddenly, a familiar, cool blue light illuminated the darkness of the room behind his eyelids.

Ding.

Siddanth opened his eyes.

SYSTEM NOTIFICATION

Major Tournament Objective Completed: Win the 2016 ICC World T20

Calculating Player Contribution...

MVP Status: Confirmed.

Assessment: Overwhelming Dominance. Historic Performance.

Generating Reward...

A golden, glowing loot box materialized on the holographic screen. It spun rapidly, bursting open with a shower of digital sparks.

REWARD ACQUIRED

Skill Class: Physical / Combat / Focus

NEW SKILL UNLOCKED: Master-Level Archery (Gold Tier)

Siddanth raised an eyebrow, reading the description that scrolled beneath the glowing text.

Skill Description: Archery (Gold Tier)

Spatial Targeting: Grants the user mathematical trajectory calculation. The user's brain can instantly calculate wind speed, elevation, target velocity, and drop-off to plot the perfect parabolic arc.

Zero-Point Aim: Allows for flawless aiming from any viable distance.

System Note:While the mental targeting is instantaneous, physical execution requires conditioning. The user must actively practice with a bow to build the specific muscular memory required to draw heavy poundage smoothly. The mind knows the shot; the body must be trained to execute it.

It was a fascinating reward. It aligned perfectly with his existing attributes. His Chanderpaul Sync (Crab's Eye) already gave him elite tracking of a moving object, and Chronos Perception allowed him to slow down time. If he combined those skills with Gold Tier Archery, his accuracy would be legitimately superhuman.

I need to set up a target range at the farmhouse, Siddanth thought. It'll be good cross-training for shoulder stability and focus.

He swiped his hand through the air, dismissing the holographic screen. The room plunged back into darkness.

He had the World Cup. He had the MVP trophy. He had his tech empire expanding by the minute. And now, he had the perfect, lethal precision of a master archer waiting to be trained.

The Devil of Cricket closed his eyes, and within ten seconds, he was fast asleep.
