Chapter 400: God's Seed
"What?!" Ren's expression changed drastically upon hearing the old woman's words.
Nutrients. The sheer weight of the word slammed into his mind. These people weren't citizens living peacefully on a benevolent deity's back; they were livestock. They were nothing more than fertilizer the Wood God Dragon had painstakingly prepared for its revival.
The combined population of the five cities situated across Aldoron's massive body easily numbered nearly a million people. To actively cultivate and eventually consume a million living, breathing human souls to feed its own roots... it was an unfathomable level of cruelty.
Ren had long guessed that the Wood God Dragon was no saint. He knew the dragons of the ancient era were inherently arrogant and destructive, but he had never expected this particular beast to be deranged to this horrifying extent.
"Why don't you run?" Ren demanded, his voice laced with genuine disbelief.
The frail old woman looked up at him with a serene, deeply unsettling smile. "Run? Why should we run?"
She pressed her wrinkled hands together in devout prayer. "It is the greatest honor for us lowly beings to become nutrients for the great Lord Wood God Dragon. To fuse with his divine flesh is a blessing we eagerly await, so why would we ever flee?"
"Crazy... these people are completely insane!" Ren muttered, taking a subconscious step back.
Seeing the feverish, blindly expectant looks on the surrounding townsfolk's faces, Ren immediately realized there was no reasoning with them. It wasn't just blind faith or generational religion; the Wood God Dragon had fundamentally brainwashed their very souls over the decades.
"Damn it!" Ren cursed under his breath, his fists clenching tightly.
Although Ren didn't consider himself a traditional, righteous hero by any stretch of the imagination, he couldn't just stand by and ignore the mass sacrifice of over a million people. He had to find a way to stop this colossal monster before the harvest was complete.
Rumble—!
Just as Ren braced his legs to take action, the entire town trembled violently once again. It wasn't just a surface tremor this time; it felt like the tectonic shifting of a continent.
Crack! Crack!
The earth beneath their feet shattered, sending massive fissures tearing through the cobblestone streets. Grand buildings collapsed into suffocating clouds of dust as a scene of complete, apocalyptic upheaval unfolded before Ren's eyes.
Countless people willingly threw themselves into the yawning chasms in the earth with joyous laughter. The sudden, catastrophic collapse of the landscape left Ren with absolutely no time to physically pull them back.
The old woman in front of him seemed to notice Ren's desperate intention to save them. She simply smiled, shaking her head with an eerie calmness.
"There's no need to think about saving us," she whispered softly over the roaring destruction. "We are doing this voluntarily."
As she spoke, a sickening crack echoed from her collarbone. A small, vibrant green sapling violently sprouted directly from her flesh, drinking her blood like water.
Seconds later, more saplings began to tear through the skin of her arms and legs, rooting her frail body directly to the crumbling stone beneath her.
"Our King!!" she screamed, her voice distorting into a wet, wooden rasp as bark consumed her throat. "Offer prayers to the great sacred tree!!"
Rumble—!
One deafening tremor after another echoed across the continent as the massive Wood God Dragon finally stood up. Its incomparably massive body blotted out the sun, casting a shadow so vast that the surrounding mountain ranges seemed incredibly small in comparison.
Roar—!
The Wood God Dragon opened its colossal maw and let out a heaven-shaking roar. The sheer atmospheric pressure of the sound caused the very air to vibrate violently, threatening to rupture the eardrums of anything within a hundred miles.
"So noisy!" Ren gritted his teeth, his hands instinctively flying to cover his ringing ears.
[Full Body Take Over: Gojo Satoru]
A brilliant flash of azure magical energy enveloped Ren's body as he instantly initiated his Take Over. Taking on the form of the strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer, the passive spatial barrier of his Limitless instantly activated around his frame.
The infinitely dividing space immediately filtered and blocked out the devastating sonic shockwaves. The sudden, absolute silence within his personal territory made him feel significantly better.
Meanwhile, far removed from the destruction of Earth Land, lay the parallel dimension of Elentir.
High atop the jagged peaks of Black Moon Mountain, the atmosphere was serene and bathed in a hauntingly beautiful, eternal lunar glow. Within a lavish, steaming hot spring pool, a woman with a breathtakingly sultry figure suddenly paused her movements.
[Akarin's Note: Elentir is a parallel dimension to Earth Land, entirely separate from Edolas. While Edolas suffers from a severe drought of magic, Elentir is plagued by an overflowing, unstable excess of magical power. It serves as the primary domain of Selene, the Moon God Dragon.]
Selene narrowed her captivating, feline eyes, her highly sensitive magical perception tingling. She sensed a massive, cataclysmic disturbance bleeding through the dimensional boundaries.
"Drasil... Has the seal of Aldoron finally been broken?" she murmured softly. A playful, incredibly dangerous smirk slowly curled on her elegant lips. "It seems many interesting things have recently appeared in that world."
Back in Earth Land, Ren floated slightly above the fractured ground, his glowing Six Eyes taking in the devastated landscape. He looked at the vanished citizens and the utterly shattered city, feeling a heavy tightness in his chest.
Those were living, breathing people with families and histories. In the span of a few horrifying minutes, they had all just been mindlessly absorbed by the Wood God Dragon like mere plant food.
The Wood God Dragon was undoubtedly an evil entity. It was an extremely ancient, malicious dragon that viewed humanity as nothing more than disposable crops.
Just then, the splintered ground beside Ren shifted unnaturally.
Swish!
A small, twisted sapling suddenly rose from the shattered earth in front of Ren. It grew at an impossible rate, its roots twisting and expanding until it forcefully took the shape of a towering, wooden humanoid figure.
"Who are you?" Ren demanded, his glowing blue eyes staring directly through the bizarre creature's magical signature.
The wooden figure tilted its head, its hollow, carved eyes locking onto Ren. "I am a part of the Wood God Dragon Aldoron. I am the God's Seed, Wolfen."
Wolfen slowly raised a jagged, bark-covered hand, its wooden joints creaking loudly. "I will now begin to systematically eliminate the foreign anomalies who have not become a part of the Wood God Dragon."
Without warning, Wolfen's arm violently extended, shooting forward like a spear. It reached directly towards Ren's head, intending to crush his skull in a single, merciless grip.
However, just as the wooden fingers were about to touch Ren's face, they abruptly ground to a halt.
"Hm?" Wolfen let out a dull sound of genuine confusion.
The God Seed was slightly stunned. It ruthlessly exerted more physical force, its wooden arm groaning under the immense pressure, but its hand simply could not get a single millimeter closer to Ren's skin.
"Is this an attempt to kill me to prevent news from leaking?" Ren asked, a disdainful smile hanging on his face. "Or have you just set your greedy sights on absorbing my magic power?"
As he spoke, Ren casually raised his right hand. He pointed his index finger directly at the center of Wolfen's wooden chest.
Swish!
A concentrated sphere of volatile, crimson energy violently sparked to life. Cursed Technique Reversal: Red materialized perfectly at the tip of Ren's finger, humming with devastating repulsive force.
Whoosh—!
The red sphere shot out with the speed of a railgun slug. It slammed mercilessly into Wolfen's chest, detonating on impact and instantly obliterating the God Seed's upper body into a shower of harmless splinters.
Ren lowered his hand, expecting the brief, disappointing skirmish to be over. However, just when he thought he had solved the immediate problem, the earth around him began to writhe once more.
Countless saplings suddenly sprouted from the surrounding, shattered ground. They grew at a terrifying speed, twisting and molding together to form dozens of identical wooden clones that looked exactly like the Wolfen he had just destroyed.
"It's useless," the chorus of Wolfens spoke in unison, their overlapping voices echoing off the ruins. "The physical damage you just caused me is entirely negligible."
The wooden avatars completely surrounded Ren, their jagged limbs twitching with lethal intent. "Facing an infinite number of me, do you really think you still have any chance of winning?"
The corners of Ren's mouth curled into an arrogant, mocking smirk. He wasn't the least bit intimidated by the sheer numbers advantage.
"No matter how much trash is piled up in one place," Ren mocked, his Six Eyes glowing brilliantly beneath his white hair. "It's still just trash."
"What did you say?!" the Wolfens roared indignantly, lunging forward from all directions simultaneously.
"Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue!"
Ren raised his hand and released a massive sphere of pure, localized vacuum. He waved his hand casually, directing the condensed azure orb to violently rotate around his stationary position.
A terrifyingly powerful gravitational force immediately erupted from the sphere. The dozens of Wolfens charging at him were instantly caught in the intense magnetic pull, their bodies violently dragged off their feet toward the anomaly.
Crack! Crunch!
The crushing magnetic pressure was simply too immense for their wooden bodies to withstand. They were ruthlessly crushed into a dense, splintered ball of compressed organic matter before exploding into fine sawdust.
"I already said it's useless," a new voice echoed calmly from the ground beneath the debris. "Even if you kill as many of me as you want, it makes no difference."
In the blink of an eye, the earth ruptured again. An even greater number of Wolfens—hundreds this time—appeared from the deep roots and attacked Ren together in a massive, coordinated tidal wave of wood.
Swish!
Ren's body disappeared instantly from his grounded position, leaving the converging Wolfens to crash into empty air.
"Instant movement?" Wolfen's collective tone paused in blatant surprise.
The God Seed recognized the complexity of the maneuver. Spatial Magic was incredibly troublesome to deal with; if this human anomaly was determined to run away, catching him would be nearly impossible given his defensive barrier.
Swish!
Ren's body reappeared effortlessly in mid-air, floating high above the converging army of wooden clones. He looked down at the swarming masses with cold, calculating detachment.
He calmly brought both of his hands together, his fingers delicately forming the necessary hand seals. The ambient magical energy in the air began to warp and distort fiercely around his hovering frame.
"Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue!"
"Cursed Technique Reversal: Red!"
A sphere of immense attraction and a sphere of absolute repulsion materialized on either side of his body. With a fluid, practiced motion of his arms, Ren violently slammed the two conflicting concepts together.
The infinite forces of Blue and Red began to rapidly fuse, creating a terrifying singularity of imaginary mass.
"Hollow Technique: Purple!"
Ren flicked his fingers forward. The massive, crackling sphere of purple annihilation descended rapidly toward the dense swarm of Wolfens in the ruined city below.
Boom—!
The moment the sphere made contact with the earth, a colossal, spherical shockwave aggressively expanded outward. The sheer force of the technique silently and effortlessly annihilated all the Wolfens caught within its radius, completely erasing them from existence.
The devastating attack didn't just wipe out the wooden clones. It completely vaporized several entire streets of the town, leaving behind nothing but a perfectly smooth, massive crater in the foundation of the city.
Ren slowly descended, his boots touching down softly on the edge of the smoking crater. Despite the overwhelming display of power, he couldn't help but frown slightly.
Hollow Technique: Purple was widely considered Gojo Satoru's most destructive, surefire attack move. Yet, through his Six Eyes, Ren could see the horrifying truth—it had caused almost zero actual, lasting damage to the Wood God Dragon's main body beneath the city layer.
Aldoron's massive, continent-sized body possessed an incomprehensibly strong defensive power based entirely on its sheer volume. This was exactly the fatal pain point of relying solely on Gojo Satoru's template in this specific scenario.
In the Jujutsu Kaisen world, Gojo's attack power was considered the absolute, unchallengeable ceiling. But here, in the Fairy Tail world, facing down a mythological Dragon God, this level of localized destructive output seemed painfully lacking. Erasing a fifty-meter chunk of a creature the size of a continent was mathematically equivalent to plucking a single hair from a human's head.
"It's '1'."
A singular Wolfen casually sprouted from the edge of the crater, completely unbothered by the recent annihilation of its peers. It looked at Ren, seemingly reading his very thoughts, and began to arrogantly explain the grim reality.
"You just dealt exactly 1 point of damage to Aldoron," Wolfen stated flatly, its wooden face devoid of emotion. "But Aldoron's total HP is 100 million points."
The wooden avatar gestured vaguely at the massive, shifting roots forming the continent around them. "If you manage to use that exact same destructive move another 99,999,999 times, perhaps you might finally be able to take it down."
"Is it really that tanky?" Ren sighed loudly, rubbing his temples in genuine annoyance. "That's really a bit troublesome. I guess the Hundred Years' Quest is certainly not that easy after all."
Ren couldn't help but feel a migraine forming behind his eyes. This was going to be a long, exhausting battle of sheer attrition if he couldn't find a way to bypass that ridiculous, monstrous durability.
"Hundred Years' Quest?!" Wolfen's wooden face twisted in sudden, violent realization. "Were you sent here by Elefseria?"
"Oh?" Ren raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms leisurely. "You know him too?"
"Of course I do. I can read the memories of anyone standing upon this land," Wolfen scoffed, crossing its own wooden arms in a mimicry of human superiority. "That senile old guy might have some decent ability, but he is an absolute idiot."
The God Seed's voice dripped with profound arrogance. "He delusionally thinks that he can rely on the meager, fragile power of humans to kill a God Dragon. It's simply wishful thinking at its absolute finest."
"What are you so damn proud of?" Ren retorted, his tone instantly hardening. "The Dragon Clan has been almost entirely wiped out by Acnologia, so why are you acting so high and mighty?"
"Hmph! Acnologia? He is nothing special," the Wood God Dragon's avatar spat back disdainfully.
Wolfen took a step forward, radiating immense, ancient pride. "If it weren't for the need to constantly guard against the others, I would have already taken out Acnologia myself ages ago."
Ren narrowed his eyes. Acnologia was indeed undeniably, cataclysmically powerful, but Aldoron genuinely believed its own immense strength had already surpassed the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse.
The only reason it hadn't actively finished off Acnologia was entirely out of self-preservation. It needed to strictly guard its stamina against the other four members of the Five God Dragons.
After all, although they were collectively honored as the Five God Dragons, it didn't mean they were on good terms. On the contrary, if any one of them were seriously injured in a massive battle, the others would absolutely not hesitate to ruthlessly strike them down to claim absolute supremacy.
