Chapter 66 - Taking out the trash

Broggy's sword quickly went to his hip. He was a man with decent enough instincts. And some of his gut told him….something was off.

"Attack all at once. Kill them!"

The thundering footsteps of men armed to the teeth were coming towards Chase, yet he was eerily calm. One man swung a blade at him one that was treated like air all the same.

Chase casually turned to his left and delivered a backhand that shattered through the blade, as well as his attackers jaw.

And suddenly the stampede charging at Chase, made so little noise that one could hear a pin drop. Not one of the men under broggys command took another step.

For in the face of true power, all who recognized it, were truly reminded of their stature.

Chase turned and looked at the man he had just defeated. His eyes were wide as he lay on the ground, touching a part of his mouth that didn't exist anymore. Chase had punched it clean off.

This slow realization gave way to immense panic, before the man passed out, likely due to a mix of bloodloss and panic.

Broggy was in a bit of disbelief himself.

"Who and what are you? Where do you come from?"

Chase smirked. "I'm nobody really. But I intend to make sure I'm the last person you ever cross paths with."

He turned to Jasmine. "Well, me and my wonderful sister–in–arms here."

Jasmine had a slight grin on her face.

"Why thank you. I'll keep these men off your back while you tear their leader to shreds. It's not as if they weren't deathly afraid of you as it was." She looked towards the men with no fear.

"Face your deaths with honor. No matter how fast you think you are, I I'll hunt you down. Besides I'm not even–"

"ENOUGH!"

In the moment it took someone to blink, Broggy had dashed forward, slamming his sword downward with all his might.

Dust kicked up, yet Broggy could still make out Chase blocking his attack. The manner seemed casual and yet the look on chases face was clearly angry.

"I too have had enough."

Chase delivered a swift punch that sent him flying back. Jasmine swiftly took action as well. The men were regaining morale and preparing to attack.

Jasmine moved swiftly, closing in on them first. The moment she got close, she stopped her charge, walking up slowly.

The men jumped at the chance, swinging at her from above, her left and her right. unfortunately, all their blades passed through her body.

"Unfortunately, it isn't that easy." She put her hand on the head of the man who had tried to attack from above. Her hand went through his head the way your hand would sink into a pond, where she reached through it and plucked out his brain.

This was all done in a mere moment.

As the bandit collapsed, the other two

While in shock, didn't want to be next.

One swung again, hoping that maybe some change would come. More men were coming.

This could turn around.

The small smirk he had, as well as every emotion stopped when Jasmine's hit him with a palm strike. While his body hit the floor, a corporeal spirit was evicted beforehand, that was now slowly disappearing.

It seemed scared.

As reinforcements came, the final bandit had no way to explain how they would die as a hand was poking through his chest the moment he turned to them.

Tens of feet away, Clashing could be heard.

Chase was battling it out with Broggy.

Many slashes came at him in one moment.

"Hold still just a moment longer." Broggy was getting irritated as the fight went on.

He was repeatedly swinging, using haste to boost his speed. Dust kicked up his attacks turned to blurs.

And yet in response, Chase calmly blocked the blade and moved it aside. He then raked his claws across the man's chest.

As Broggy clutched his chest, he stared at Chase. "Ingrate! I don't know what you are,

But I will mount your head atop my wall when this is over."

As Chase Closed in, his ears twitched and h leaned left. Following which three arrows flew past his head. Broggys men are still nearby.

"Enough about what you're going to do. If you don't do something now, you won't make it."

'This bastard. He's toying with me! I gotta think fast if I want to live!"

Broggys muscles tensed as he accelerated. But this time, he backed up. And with every slash he made, a massive cutting arc left his blade, slashing across the road.

Chase managed to evade them, jumping to his left. Some of broggys men had been lying in wait, looking for a moment to strike. They were not so lucky.

Once Broggy was done, he was panting, losing his breath. "You just won't die will you?"

Before he even realized, Chase was upon him. Delivering a punch that shattered a rib.

Broggy retaliated with his blade, but Chase Grabbed it and set it ablaze. Broggy was rounding up a punch, but before he swung, ha saw something.

He looked deep in Chases eyes. And while yes, their was anger for the things that he did, something else was their too.

He simply stood and stared at him. "I will entertain you no longer. Be done with it."

After a long silence, with a grim expression,

He seemed to accept his death.

Chase was a bit shocked. "Just like that? I expected more from you."

Broggy simply shook his head. "As much as you think yourself pure of heart, their is evil in you. One day, you too will have to be put down.

Who will do do it I wonder?"

Chase Dug into his chest, Grabbing his heart and crushing it. "Something you won't be privy to I'm afraid."

"That's alright. Where I'm going, you're spirit is sure to as well."

As his body collapsed, Chase stared at it for a

while before turning to catch the runners.

——

After they had finished, Chase had picked up their basket and continued on. Eventually going into the treeline.

"We've made it. To the spot." They took a look around. A hill leading down to a beautiful lake, with wild slimes and deer in the background.

Jasmine threw down a blanket on top of the hill and they sat down. The sun was still shining beautifully. Taking in a deep breath, Chase felt this feeling of suffocation dissipate.

"You were right. This place is beautiful."

A deer had come up to jasmine, It's ears twitching in curiosity. She began petting it, feeding it some grapes she plucked from the basket.

"Very cute, both of you." Chase turned back to the lake.

"Hey, if you're starting at the water so much, why not go and jump in?" Jasmine looked curiously at him while the dear was sniffing her hand, Attention starved.

"I gotta get a snack first. Hey! GET HIM OUTTA THE BASKET!"

Jasmine turned to see the dear, head deep in their snacks. "Oh boy."

A few minutes pass by and Chase was now munching on A strawberry, laying on his back.

With an atmosphere this serene, it purged most of the bad.

Jasmine interrupted his last thoughts and stood over him. "Last Chance to not be a downer. I'm jumping in. Are you coming?"

Something in him didn't want to relax. But His mind wasn't on the past, or the future right now. Just for a moment. A smile Curled up his lips. "Why not?"
