JUST A CLASSMATE
Adrian's POV
The next morning, I woke up, went through my usual routine, and headed to school.
Everything felt the same — same streets, same faces — except for one. Hers.
Maybe she won't come today either. Whatever. Not my problem.
Classes started, and as usual, I just went with the flow — half-listening, half-lost in my thoughts.
When lunch break arrived, I grabbed a seat in the cafeteria with Tyler. We joked around, ate, and talked about random stuff.
Then the day ended like any other. I went home, finished some work, and slept.
Days passed the same way — quiet and uneventful.
Until two weeks later.
That morning, when I walked into class, she was there.
Elena.
The moment she stepped in, the room changed.
Every guy suddenly had something to say — someone handed her flowers, another tried to talk, and a few just stood there pretending not to stare.
But she ignored them all and quietly took her seat, like none of it mattered.
I didn't say a word.
Didn't even look properly.
From the back, I heard Mike's voice — "Welcome back, princess!"
That made jaiz laugh, and even she smiled a little before turning back to her desk.
The teacher entered soon after and the class went on as usual, until Ms. Isabella called my name and said,
"Adrian, meet me after class."
When the bell rang, I went to her office.
She smiled politely and said, "You've missed a few previous lectures and notes . I want you to get the notes from one of your classmates."
Then she paused, as if she had just found the perfect idea.
"Oh yes — take them from Elena her notes are always completed. And also, give her your notes from the last few days she missed."
Great. Out of everyone, she had to pick her.
Ms. Isabella looked at me again. "That won't be a problem, right?"
I was about to reply when Elena walked into the room.
Ms. Isabella turned to her. "Elena, please share your past study materials with Adrian and take his notes for the days you missed."
She hesitated for a moment, then sighed, clearly irritated.
"Fine," she said flatly.
"Good. You two can go now," Ms. Isabella smiled, dismissing us.
We walked back to class in silence — no words, no eye contact.
Just… awkward air hanging between us.
Later, during lunch, I was telling Tyler about the whole "note exchange" thing, sounding a bit annoyed.
He instantly started teasing me, of course.
While we were still laughing, Rowan walked up to our table and said he wanted to join us.
I smirked. "What happened? Your honeybees refused to sit with you today?"
Tyler burst out laughing, and Rowan just rolled his eyes.
After teasing Rowan, we finished our lunch and headed back to class.
The rest of the day felt like it was dragging on forever.
I sat at my desk, flipping through my notes, just trying to pass time. The class was half-empty; no teacher had shown up yet.
Some students were studying , a few girls were whispering and laughing over gossip, and a bunch of guys were glued to their phones, probably watching some random reels.
Behind me, I could hear Mike and Jaiz laughing about something stupid.
And right next to me — Elena.
She was bent over her notebook, her pencil moving quickly as she solved a few math problems.
Then suddenly I remembered — Ms. Isabella's note exchange thing.
Crap. I hadn't taken her notes yet.
I stared at my notebook for a good ten seconds, debating whether to say something or not.
How do I even start that conversation?
"Hey, about the notes…"
No, that sounds too direct.
Maybe just say " You haven't gave me the notes...yet.."
Yeah, that's fine.
I cleared my throat a little.
"Uh… um… ma… ma'am… told me to ...take..the… notes…"
She didn't even look up. Just quietly pulled a few copies out of her bag, placed them on the desk, and said, "Hmnn."
Her voice was calm — not rude, but not warm either.
I took the notebooks and slid mine toward her in return.
"Uh… these are mine," I said softly.
And then, at the exact same moment, both of us spoke —
"I'll return it tomorrow."
"I'll give it back tomorrow."
Then —
She let out a small laugh.
I smiled back. Just a tiny one.
Again there was an awkward silence between us . I thought of asking about her injuries but before I could say anything else, the bell rang, and everyone started packing up.
I was about to leave too when I heard Mike's voice from behind.
"Bro!"
I turned. "Yeah, what?"
He grinned. "We're heading to the new game store " The Game Zone" . Come on! join us?"
I thought that Tyler will go alone if I go with them but suddenly , my phone buzzed.
Tyler.
"hmn," I said, answering the call.
"Hey bro!" he said, way too cheerfully.
"So uh… change of plans. I got asked out. Yeah. A date. Today!"
I raised an eyebrow. "You serious?"
"Dead serious. So you'll have to head home alone. Sorry!"
He sounded too happy to even pretend to feel bad.
"Fine," I said, smiling slightly. "Go enjoy your date. I'll survive."
The call ended.
I turned back to Mike, who was still waiting.
"Yeah," I said with a forced smile. "Let's go."
Mike and Jaiz grabbed their bags and ran toward the parking lot, yelling something about who'd reach first.
I followed behind, taking my time.
By the time I got there, I saw their car — bright, loud, and filled with some
Boxes piled up in the back seat.
Elena was already standing nearby, looking at them with a mix of confusion and judgment.
She pointed at the mess. "Seriously? What are all these boxes doing here?"
Mike waved it off casually. "Relax, those are my imported car models. Don't touch them. They're rare!
I forgot to keep them at home "
She rolled her eyes. "Imported or not, this looks like a moving truck."
Mike chuckled and said, "Okay fine, problem solved. You sit with Adrian."
Then he turned to me, half-smiling, half-teasing. "That's fine, right bro?"
I hesitated for half a second — just half.
"Uh… yeah. No problem."
Elena looked… not thrilled, to say the least.
She gave me a tiny, irritated look, muttered something under her breath, and climbed into the front seat of my car.
I got in beside her, started the engine, and tried to act casual.
The silence was loud — the kind that fills the air when neither person wants to be the one to break it.
Mike and Jaiz's car sped off first, music blasting through their speakers.
I followed them slowly, the road stretching ahead under the golden evening light.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Elena staring out the window — her hair slightly messy from the wind, her fingers tapping on her lap absentmindedly.
For some reason, I found myself sneaking glances every few seconds, pretending to check the mirrors.
Neither of us spoke.
But something about that silence didn't feel awkward anymore.
It just felt… familiar.
Ahh what are you thinking Adrian
"She's just a classmate! JUST A CLASSMATE!!! "
