I got home safe thanks to Damian but I wish he was here with me. Somehow, I feel safe around him. Well Uncle Hayden's sudden call still shakes me a bit and I'm wondering if I can decline the dinner at his house. I don't trust him anymore after all I have seen. Though I can't conclude yet but what if it's true.
Just as I pondered my phone rings;
A notification: Hope you got home safe Ari ? See you later from D.
I smile while reading this and I can't stop myself. After showering and doing the needful, I fell asleep on the couch.
The next day, I hurriedly left the house because I woke up late but to my greatest surprise — a man was waiting for me at my door front.
"And you are?" I asked him
"Oh — good morning Miss Lawson" he greeted and continues "I was sent by Mr Blackwood."
Of course only Damian can pull this act.
He opened the car door and drives me to Blackwood HQ. I kept thinking what all this is about. As soon as I got to the revolving door, I noticed two security men behind me. They acted like they had been sent and I wasn't comfortable. Each time I made a stop they acted suspicious. I quickly took a private elevator— the one which leads directly into Damian's office.
As soon as I got into his office, I become relieved.
"Damian, I think someone is after me " I said
"How do you mean " he asked
"Ok so I got here—
"oh less I forget did my driver pick you up?
I nod but I wasn't happy he cuts in before I could finish my statement.
"Im sorry you were saying—"
I frown
"Common Ari— I'm sorry "
"Why are there so many security guards today and why are they following me?" I asked
He smiles and sits on his chair
"Is that why you panicked?"he asked
"Yes" I answered
He continues " Ari those are your personal body guards"
"Personal what? I never asked for one Damian"
"Ari relax," he continues "whatever I do is for your safety"
"Can you at least tell me what's going on.. ? " this time I'm furious like I was the only one in the office that didn't know what had happened.
"Look at this" he hands me photographs of me taken in the boardroom during the ambush.
"How—? " I become more confused
"Exactly" he says
"Someone inside this building is after you Ari and I can't sit and not do nothing. I wouldn't forgive myself if anything bad happens to you." He added
At this point I become weak, broken. So that's why he sent his driver to pick me up earlier?
If I'm being monitored, then I'm not safe. Are they coming for me just like they came for my father? I kept asking myself questions that I didn't have answers to.
"Do you know who took the photo?" I managed to ask
"Not yet, but I believe the person was inside the boardroom. The angle this picture was taken from can't be from outside. It was definitely taken from inside."
"So what's going to happen now?" I ask
"It's not safe for you to be alone so I'm going to give you some security guard, a driver and —
"And you didn't think to ask me before doing all of this? I cut in before he finished.
"Aria, I'm doing this for you " he says
"For me, ever since I stepped foot into this building it's one problem or the other. I never asked for all of this"
" I'm sorry, I should have asked before doing all of this. I just wanted to protect you"
"I don't need protection, I'm not a child." My voice goes high
"Yes you do." "Why are you so stubborn ?"
I'm supposed to be angry at him for saying that but instead I remain quiet.
He sees my countenance and begins
" Ari, I care a lot about you okay and I'm sorry for not seeking your consent but I'm not sorry for doing what I did."
I look at him with a smile then reply
"It's alright, I get the fact you're worried ."
So what's the update? " I asked
Well nothing much, Trying to put things together. Though I now know there's a mole in my company. "
"The ambush in the boardroom, the messages from U- COW, your access card being cloned and now a picture of you taken."he said
I'm more worried than I should. Is this because of my father ? A question I ask myself everyday
Maybe I shouldn't have sought for answers.
"Damian, what if they come for me like they came for my father ?" I asked panicking
"No one will touch you under my watch" he says
That sounds like Superman trying to save me from a chaos but well I'm glad I have Damian to protect me.
Just as I tried to remain calm something caught my attention on his desk.
I quickly picked up the paper. A name circled, more like he's a target.
Out of curiosity I asked .
"Who might this be?"
"That is our suspect " he continues " all fingers point to him"
"How so?" I asked
"Whenever we're together he's behind, he was at the boardroom too. I mean I haven't gotten a solid proof yet but my instincts never lie." he answers
Then Damian's phone buzzed;
A message: She's not supposed to be there. My advice, fire her before it gets bloody .
I notice his facial expression as he reads the message. It is dangerous.
"Whats the issue ?" I asked
He hesitates before handing over the phone.
My eyes widen as I read the message. This is a threat and this time around the person behind all of this —isn't joking.
"What now?" I asked
"For now we tighten security around you and get more findings on our suspect. One thing I can assure you is this — No one will hurt you while I'm breathing except they come at me first which isn't possible " he says
I felt like hugging him but instead I find myself saying those words "Thank you"
