TRANSITIONING FROM A HERO TO A VILLAIN
Chapter 2: My Name Was Transition
My old name no longer mattered.
The hero I once was had died.
The person who had trusted the government, protected people, and showed mercy to villains was gone.
I needed a new identity.
A new name.
A name that represented what I had become.
Once, people called my ability Transitioning.
So I decided to make it my name.
Transition.
That was who I was now.
Not a hero.
Not a government agent.
Not a protector.
A villain.
---
After the destruction of the government organization, the entire world began searching for me.
News channels talked about the mysterious villain who had appeared out of nowhere.
Heroes were sent to investigate.
Superhumans with abilities specifically designed for tracking people were brought in.
Some could sense energy.
Some could detect supernatural signatures.
Some could see enormous distances.
Others could supposedly locate anyone by following traces left behind by their abilities.
None of it mattered.
They couldn't find me.
Because they didn't understand what Transitioning actually was.
They thought I was simply teleporting.
I wasn't.
Teleportation meant moving from one place to another.
Transitioning was different.
I changed locations themselves.
That difference was everything.
---
One hero came closer than anyone else.
He possessed an ability that allowed him to detect supernatural energy from enormous distances.
He followed my energy signature across the city.
Every step brought him closer.
He finally stopped in front of a building.
"I've got him."
He could feel me.
He knew I was nearby.
He entered the building.
He searched every floor.
Nothing.
He activated his ability again.
My energy was still there.
He smiled.
"You're here."
Then he turned around.
I was standing behind him.
He immediately attacked.
But his fist passed through empty air.
I had already transitioned.
The location where I had been standing was no longer my location.
The hero looked around in confusion.
Then his eyes widened.
I appeared on a rooftop several streets away.
He looked at me.
"How?"
I simply smiled.
"You're looking for someone who doesn't stay where you think they are."
He tried to locate me again.
Nothing.
Because I had already changed the location.
---
That was the true nature of my ability.
I didn't merely move myself.
I could transition objects, people, and locations.
I could take something that belonged in one place and shift it somewhere else.
I could make something appear as though it had always been in that location.
It wasn't simply movement.
It was a change.
A shift.
A transition from one location to another.
That was why tracking me was nearly impossible.
Even if someone was standing right beside me...
I could change my location.
Even if they were already preparing an attack...
I could shift the position of the attack itself.
Even if they discovered where I was hiding...
I could make that location irrelevant.
The rules that had once limited my ability were disappearing.
And I was only beginning to understand its potential.
---
I looked over the city from the rooftop.
The wind moved through my clothes.
I closed my eyes.
For years, I had known only one thing.
Transitioning.
It was my ability.
It was my weakness.
It was my survival.
And now...
It was my identity.
I opened my eyes.
"My name is Transition."
From that day forward, the world would know that name.
They would search for me.
They would chase me.
They would send their strongest heroes after me.
But they would never truly understand me.
Because as long as I could transition...
I could always change.
And wherever they thought I was...
I was already somewhere else.
