Rise of the Feline Society Chapter 18 - The Text
Sophie caught the ball and she leapt into the air throwing it towards the goal. The goal keeper leapt upward trying to catch it but was too slow as the ball grazed by his fingers entering into the goal.
"Yes!" His sister celebrated.
The other team looked annoyed as she had scored again.
"New Skill unlocked," the system began again. "Balance Burst: Minus 10 energy. Drops into a perfect stance to avoid tripping, falling, or being pushed over, even in hazardous conditions as long as your feet are touching the ground. Duration: 15 seconds with a three-minute cooldown. This skill has a 30% chance to activate randomly during combat costing no energy and no cooldown upon ending.
So, I am able to stand on my feet, William thought placing a hand on his chin. This is a really good skill. In Rageblitz no matter if someone tries to take me out, I will never fall. Is there a limit to this? Like, if I was in a fight when someone hits me enough to send me flying back, will I remain in place and tank a hit? I'll still most likely take damage but at least if I was on a roof's edge I won't be thrown to my death. It does take more energy though.
William pondered more as he was making his way back to the goal post on his side. When he touched the goal post signaling to the referee which was his coach that he was ready, William decided to open the system.
The system began to read off of his stats. "Host Name: William Carter. Species: Felkin. Title: None. Rank: None. Level 3. HP: 49 of 50. Energy: 116 of 150. Strength; 7. Speed; 8. Dexterity; 7. Endurance; 8. Exp: 0 of 365."
Based on my new skills, William began to think. I believe that at the moment I want to be able to last longer than my opponents. This will include using my skills to be able to save my best friend from Amos. This means that I will need more energy. I need to use my stat point awarded to me and use it to increase my endurance.
William with his mind, selected the only stat point at the side of the screen and moved it over to the endurance bar.
"One stat point has been added to Endurance," the system announce. "The system is adjusting, please stand by."
William waited for three seconds then it continued.
"The system has adjusted. Energy has been increased by 30. Energy; 116 of 180. Your body will be able to endure more punishment. The more your body suffers the stronger you will get." The system ended there.
It looks like even though I increased my energy, it doesn't give me the 30 energy, it just increases it by 30.
At that moment the whistle blew and both sides were off. William stared at the screen for a moment before closing it. After that he leapt onto the course, his Agile Reflexes skill still had a minute thirty left.
He was gracefully making his way toward the middle of the arena, and unlike last time, his speed had increased, so he was slightly faster than his sister. Well, actually, at least when his Agile Reflexes skill was still active.
He caught up to his sister just as they got to the middle of the arena. Some guy at the other side had reached it before the two of them. Sophie reached grabbing the ball but the guy just smiled as he backhanded her face, but she still maintained her hold on the ball.
Anger coursed through William more than usual due to his friend being captured, and he was like a volcano about to go off. He balled his right hand into a fist and through it out at the man. His fist connected cleanly on the man's jaw causing him to fling backwards as he slammed on the platform unconscious.
"You have knocked out an opponent," The system announced. "Plus 20 exp. Exp: 20 of 365."
His sister with her left cheek slightly reddened looked at her brother with a surprised look on her face. William noticing Sophie's expression just snorted.
"Well, go on sis," William said with slight annoyance.
Sophie snapped out of her daze as she went forward with William following close behind. Meanwhile a medical staff started to make her way through the course to go check up on the unconscious boy.
Coach Grayson on the side had a surprised look on his face witnessing what William just did.
That scrawny kid took out someone at least twice his size with ease, the coach thought. Maybe our first year of being able to compete in the sport won't be an embarrassing one with him on our team. Even his sister took on the hit like a pro. I'm glad the law went into effect or maybe I wouldn't have gotten such talent.
While the coach was busy daydreaming of his team's future victory, William had knocked out one more person giving him 20 more experience points.
"Exp: 40 of 365," the system stated.
Why does my brother seem angry, Sophie wondered. Surly Jack being absent couldn't have affected him that much?
As they kept going William kicked a girl aside and knocked two more guys out.
"40 exp gained. Exp: 80 of 365."
They were just about to get to the goal when Amelia came up from underneath them knocking the ball out of Sophie's hands. One of Amelia's team members caught the ball and proceeded to make their way in the other direction. Sophie and William turned around but Amelia grabbed William's leg and pulled him out. He fell but he stopped his face from hitting the ground. He rushed back to his feet glaring at Amelia in a sort of friendly way.
She smiled showing her dimples at William. "Please stop knocking my team members out. We get it, you are strong." She then dropped her voice down so only William could hear. Why don't you try to fight your own kind, Animorph."
"Quest activated," the system jumped in. "The Animorph, Amelia Anderson, has initiated a challenge. Who is the stronger Animorph? Fight within the rules of the Rageblitz sport. Rewards: 200 exp plus stat points depending on how much your body evolves during the fight."
As soon as the system was done speaking Amelia dashed forward. A smile appeared on his face as he activated his newest skill.
"Skill Activated: Balance Burst. Minus 10 energy."
Amelia tried to tackle him as his body shifted his stance slightly taking Amelia's hit dead on. Instead of being pushed back like anybody would've, he barely budged from his position. Her eyes widened slightly not expecting that William would be able to stand his ground.
William could feel pain across his body and he noticed that his HP dropped by 5.
Five! William thought as he grabbed onto her swinging her to the side. Instead of hitting the multiple polls she just gracefully grabbed onto the pull and was just hanging from it.
He looked at Amelia with a creepy smile on his face.
"Skill activated: Agile Reflexes: Minus 5 energy."
Why does he seem angry today, Amelia thought as William lunged at her.
She leapt off of the poll thrusting out her feet in a flying body side kick. William, seeing the incoming kick quickly placing his feet on the ground as his Balance burst skill was still active. She slammed into William who was standing there like a brick wall. She practically crumbled into him from the impact.
"Minus 6 Health Points," the system stated. "HP: 39 of 50."
William threw out a punch at her head but she moved her head aside as his fist slammed into the flooring making a loud bang sound. She smiled as William tried to attack her again, but she rolled off the platform, grabbed onto the beams, and swung herself back onto the platform in front of him.
"Healing has commenced," the system chimed in. "Minus 12 Energy."
Since William wasn't physically injured, meaning that his flesh wasn't torn, his health points went up to 46 of 50 and the aches and pains went away.
The two stared at each other as a ball flew past both of them, heading to the goal but the goal keeper caught it. The goal keeper noticing that Amelia was right in front of him tossed it to her but it veered slightly to the left. She moved out to the left while reaching out to grab it as William jumped at her. The two collided and the ball went spinning into one of Amelia's teammates.
The two kept on fighting for a while taking and giving each other blows before finally Sophie scored a goal forcing the two to stop fighting. When the fight was over, Amelia was hunched over as blood was lightly trickling out of her mouth.
William looked relatively fine but his HP was at 32 and his Energy was at 57.
"You… won," she said with a groan. "You were definitely not this strong yesterday."
"Quest completed," The system announced. "Congratulations, you have bested the Animorph, Amelia Anderson within the rules of a Rageblitz fight. 200 exp has been awarded. Exp: 280 of 365." Due to your performance, a strength stat has been awarded along with a stat point to dexterity."
Well, that's cool, William thought as a voice came out from the side.
"William and Amelia!" Coach Grayson yelled. "Get over here."
William and Amelia looked at each other as they slowly made their way over.
After about twenty seconds the two of them were standing in front of Coach Grayson, each of them with a medical staff looking at them. The one examining William was just checking up on him, not finding visible wounds as he took out a scanner to see if he had internal injuries. Amelia's medic, on the other hand, was patching up her nose, which had just started to bleed, and sprayed something into her mouth to help heal her oral injuries.
"The two of you…" Coach Grayson said with a look that could make you question your life choices.
"Well," Sophie muttered to one of her teammates. "They are cooked."
"Were awesome!" Coach Grayson shouted finishing his sentence.
"Sophie's next words died in her throat after hearing what their coach had just said.
"You two were showing great skill when fighting each other. You took hits like they were nothing." He threw his hands up in the air like he was about to make the two of them coach. "You two will do great when we start to go against other schools." He lowered his hands as a more calming expression went onto his face. "For now, try to not fight each other or anybody else. I don't want you to injure your teammates or yourself. Feel free to sit out or jump back in when you're ready today."
He turned and walked towards the Rageblitz arena with a hop in his step. At that moment, the two medical staff left, as they were done doing what they needed to do.
Amelia turned her head to face William, a smile on her face, causing his heart to skip a beat. She latched onto William which made his cat-like senses on guard.
"I can't wait to tell Felix this," Amelia stated. "The boss would be so proud of us, wouldn't he Will?"
She let go of him as she leaned over to tie her shoe. "By the way, William, why did you seem…angry today?"
William turned his head away from her which Amelia noticed like a bee had landed on her nose.
"Come on," she said, latching onto him again, which made the hairs on his arms stand on end. "You can tell me. We are in the same gang after all."
On the course, Sophie was staring at the two of them with a confused expression on her face as she was noticing Amelia being all clingy with her brother. "Looks like someone likes my brother." She muttered as the whistle blew."
"I prefer not to," William said. "I don't know you."
"Fair, fair," she said letting go of him. "I won't pry."
She pulled out her phone from her backpack. She wasn't even on it for five seconds before her head snapped to William.
"Can you purr?"
"What?"
"Can…you…purr?" She asked with eagerness in her voice.
"No," He answered.
That didn't seem to satisfy her as she slowly reached her hand out to scratch his orange hair. He slowly moved away as she slowly moved closer.
Now at this moment William was getting overwhelmed with what Amelia was doing. For one, he barely had any interactions with the opposite gender. Whether that was because he was not very social, or he considered himself not good-looking. William would bet on both. He was also a nervous guy. Even if he had a lot of interactions, he probably still wouldn't be sure of what to do here. He eventually decided to let Amelia do what she wanted even if he necessary didn't like it at the moment.
She began running her fingers through his hair, scratching it like you would a cat's. After a moment nothing happened but William could feel a vibration start to build in him. It kept intensifying until you could hear William start to purr like a cat. Amelia's jaw dropped with a happy expression on her face as she kept scratching.
William's expression softened as the sensations felt like he was getting a massage on his chest and back. The purring started to get louder and louder until William pulled away afraid that the others could hear.
"Aghh!" Amelia screeched softly with a giggle. "That was so…cute."
William was still purring but it started to die down. It felt like someone had placed a muscle relaxing vibrating device within his body.
"Please, let me do it again," Amelia asked like she was a spoiled child.
"Definitely not now," William firmly stated.
"She chuckled and the two of them started to talk about random things until the club was over. The time was 6:15pm when Coach Grayson blew his whistle three times signaling the end of practice.
"Go get some rest!" the coach shouted. Our first game is coming up soon. The date has not been released yet, so don't ask. William and Amelia, like I already said you two did well. Rest up and I'll see you Monday."
"Well," Amelia said. "What do you want to do?"
That's when he could feel a vibration in his pocket. He pulled out his burner phone expecting a text from Felix like last time but there was nothing on it. He felt another vibration and he pulled out his other phone. He read who it was from. His eyes widened as he read who sent it. It was a text from…Amos.
