Chapter 46 - Crushing Xu Sanshi

Training grounds, central Soul Arena.

This was the largest Soul Arena in the training grounds, though significantly smaller than the main Soul Arena, it could still accommodate over a thousand spectators.

News of Bai Zhou and Xu Sanshi's duel spread like wildfire. As soon as the two stepped onto the stage, over a hundred curious students and teachers had already gathered, with more pouring in through the entrance.

"Bai Zhou, are you sure you want to duel Xu Sanshi of the third year?" The Soul Arena manager, acting as referee, asked Bai Zhou again.

While lower-year students challenging higher-year students was a common occurrence, a freshman challenging a third-year student was unprecedented in Shrek Academy's history!

"I'm sure. Let's get this over with. I'm in a hurry," Bai Zhou replied, glancing sideways to see Jiang Nannan entering through the entrance.

***

Jiang Nannan had just entered the Soul Arena and immediately spotted Bai Zhou and Xu Sanshi facing off on the stage.

"It's too late... It's all my fault..." Jiang Nannan instantly sank into deep self-blame.

In her eyes, Xu Sanshi was picking a fight with Bai Zhou because of her. After all, Xu Sanshi always followed her around, driving away any boy who approached her.

Xu Sanshi often challenged others to duels over this.

She had meant to warn Bai Zhou about this earlier, but she had forgotten completely, fearing he would try to touch her rabbit ears again.

By the time she remembered, the two were already on the Soul Arena stage—a disastrous situation.

Jiang Nannan's heart was filled with worry, fearing Bai Zhou would be bullied by Xu Sanshi.

Meanwhile, the other spectators, never ones to shy away from drama, were thoroughly enjoying the spectacle.

"Good grief, Xu Sanshi's picking a fight again! It's definitely because of Jiang Nannan. I've lost count of how many times this has happened."

"The guy fighting Xu Sanshi this time looks like a freshman..."

"Holy crap, you're right! Didn't the freshmen just enroll? They haven't even started their entrance exams yet! What kind of guts does this kid have?"

"What did Xu Sanshi even say to provoke him into challenging him to the Soul Arena? He could have just refused! If Xu Sanshi keeps provoking people like this, he'll get punished even without throwing a punch."

"He's a freshman, of course he doesn't know the academy rules. Plus, young blood runs hot—he probably just lost his temper..."

"What a pity..."

"Yeah, too bad we can't bet on this fight. If they'd agreed to fight in the Soul Arena, I could have made some pocket money betting on Xu Sanshi..."

***

The students buzzed with excitement, their discussions growing louder. In mere moments, the crowd of onlookers had swelled to over 200, drawing students from every grade level and even a few teachers, all drawn by the spectacle of the impending clash.

While duels in the academy's Soul Arena were common, battles on the training ground's Soul Arena were rare. The urgency of this fight clearly stemmed from deep-seated animosity, both sides eager to crush their opponent without delay.

"Since both parties are ready, you may unleash your Martial Souls," the referee announced, stepping off the arena with a measured tone.

"Come on, I'll stand here and let you attack. If you can break my defense, you win!" Xu Sanshi declared proudly, summoning his Profound Nether Tortoise Martial Soul.

"Alright, you asked for it," Bai Zhou grinned, bypassing the need to summon his Martial Soul entirely. Instead, he retrieved a massive iron hammer, taller than a man, from his storage Soul Tool.

*Thud!*

The hammer slammed into the ground, sending a tremor through the entire Soul Arena.

"Holy shit! What kind of Soul Tool is that?!" Xu Sanshi exclaimed, visibly shaken by the sheer size of Bai Zhou's weapon.

Just looking at its weight, it was clearly no light thing. If this thing smashed down on someone, it would definitely be a bone-crushing experience.

"What's it to you? Just take the beating like a man," Bai Zhou grinned, turning to the referee. "I won't use my Martial Soul. I'll fight him with this. Let's get started."

This massive hammer was a fusion weapon Bai Zhou had forged by melting down rare metal scraps from the laboratory. It wasn't a Soul Tool, but it weighed a staggering 2,000 kilograms, which Bai Zhou felt was perfectly suited for him.

After all, his bare-handed attacks often injured his hands, and against certain opponents, a proper weapon was essential.

Bai Zhou was eager to see the destructive power he could unleash by combining his current strength with this two-ton hammer.

"Alright, let the match begin."

The referee, though puzzled, said nothing. He could see that Bai Zhou's hammer weighed at least a thousand kilograms. With such a terrifying weapon, what need was there for Martial Soul abilities?

*Whoosh—*

As the referee's words faded, Bai Zhou gripped the hammer, leaped ten meters into the air, and came crashing down on Xu Sanshi with brutal force.

"If you're so tough, stop hiding! Let's see how hard your turtle shell really is!" Bai Zhou grinned, baring his teeth.

"Come on! I'm not afraid of you!"

"Profound Nether Shield!"

Xu Sanshi's bravado couldn't hide the fine beads of sweat forming on his forehead as he channeled all his energy into his strongest defense.

Instantly, translucent green shields materialized around Xu Sanshi, forming a wide-area barrier. In the next moment, all the shields fused into a single, incredibly thick green Profound Nether Shield, concentrating all his defensive power in front of him to block Bai Zhou's attack.

*Whoosh!*

The sound of air being torn apart filled the arena as Bai Zhou, wielding the massive hammer like a meteor, slammed it violently into Xu Sanshi's Profound Nether Shield.

*Boom—*

A terrifying, muffled explosion reverberated through the arena.

Xu Sanshi felt as if he had been struck by a colossal mountain. The overwhelming pressure forced him to collapse onto the ground, and the shockwave dragged him backward over ten meters before he finally came to a stop.

Xu Sanshi immediately checked his rear, relieved to find his pants intact.

He glanced at his Profound Nether Shield and saw a massive dent in the center, surrounded by spiderweb-like cracks. But at least it hadn't shattered.

Xu Sanshi immediately poured a massive surge of Soul Power into the shield, rapidly repairing it.

"Hahaha! Come at me again! You think you're so tough, but you can't even break my defense! Come on!" Though inwardly terrified, Xu Sanshi rose to his feet, laughing loudly with a defiant and arrogant expression.

"Heh, that's good to know. I was worried you wouldn't be able to take a beating," Bai Zhou grinned, charging forward again.

He had only used half his strength earlier. If he unleashed his full power, Bai Zhou feared he might cripple Xu Sanshi beyond the referee's ability to intervene.

Fortunately, this green-haired turtle had proven surprisingly resilient, actually withstanding the blow.

Now that Bai Zhou had gauged his opponent's approximate level, he began unleashing a relentless barrage.

*Bang! Bang! Bang!*

*Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!*

*Boom! Boom! Boom!*

Explosions echoed across the Soul Arena like muffled thunder, the shockwaves causing the audience's eardrums to throb.

Yet the rhythm of the assault was strangely hypnotic.
