Chapter 240 - Secret Ruins

"His name is Morse, and he probably isn't acting alone. He might have people assisting him. He himself shouldn't be dangerous, but it's hard to say about those around him."

Lex looked around, organizing his words: "If you have any clues about him, please inform me. I will pay you a commensurate reward. If you can find him, without harming his life, you may use appropriate means to imprison him and then hand him over to me. I will give you a satisfactory price."

"We can discuss the specifics after you obtain clues or capture him, how does that sound?"

After a moment of silence in the magnificent ancient palace, 'Hanged Man' Alger leaned back slightly in his high-backed chair, feeling a sense of regaining control: "I can keep an eye out for him, and if circumstances allow, I can also help you capture this Mr. Morse."

"I have many connections on the Sea, so I should have plenty of methods."

After catching him, I need to figure out why The Chariot wants this person. The Chariot's background is definitely not simple. He can put two decent magical items up for sale at the Tarot Club. If I'm not mistaken, he should possess multiple magical items, or even Sealed Artifacts.

From his performance, he appears to be a noble, though I can't rule out a disguise.

But no matter what, I cannot underestimate him. There might be a powerful force behind him, but it doesn't seem like a Church. His actions and tone do not show strong inclinations toward any particular faith.

In short, the person he is looking for is definitely not simple. Perhaps I can seek some benefits in this matter.

After all, he only asked for clues or the capture of the person, with no other restrictions.

"I can also try, but I can't guarantee there will be any news."

The second to accept the commission was the beautiful, kind, and proactive Miss Justice.

Mr. Chariot was kind enough to warn me about the Aurora Order earlier. Hmm, I should help him within my capabilities. Members of our Tarot Club should help each other like this to grow and strengthen quickly. Mr. Fool would surely be pleased to see this.

Although I don't have connections on the Sea, my dear second brother, Alfred, is on the South Continent, and perhaps he might have a way. And I only said I would try; I didn't guarantee any news, so it's not a big problem.

The key is that I conveyed my attitude, hoping to set an example for others. Audrey looked around, but unfortunately, 'Sun' and Mr. World did not seem to be influenced by her attitude.

Seeing that no one else accepted the commission, Lex nodded slightly to Miss Justice and 'Hanged Man': "Then I leave it to the two of you."

The Tarot Club continued.

This time, Mr. World issued a commission. He wanted to collect information on all the fallen nobles in the Loen Kingdom. This commission was ultimately accepted by Audrey, who was the most suitable candidate. As a count's daughter, she had some knowledge of the crests and information of various Families in Backlund.

After some more exchange, today's Tarot Club concluded.

Crimson surged.

When Lex woke up, he found himself indeed lying in the bushes, and the goddess of luck seemed to have favored him; the pheasant had fallen into the trap and hadn't escaped.

Emerging from the bushes and looking at the pheasant in the trap, Lex swallowed: "Dinner is settled."

He found a tree branch as thick as his arm, used a vine as a rope, tied the pheasant to the branch, then hoisted it onto his shoulder and walked back.

It was already late, and the western sky was stained crimson. Lex walked, letting his thoughts wander aimlessly.

If I set a fire on the mountain, would it help digest the Pyromaniac potion residue?

Whoosh—

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew, making the surrounding trees rustle. Just behind a tree, a figure suddenly flickered past.

Lex immediately darted behind a large tree, put down the pheasant, took out Blood Praise, then stealthily circled around to the other side.

Upon seeing it, he was dumbfounded.

It wasn't a human figure at all, but a skeleton. It was unknown how long it had been dead; the body was severely incomplete, missing two arms and one leg, with only white bones remaining.

The white bones were entwined with vines, hanging from the tree, swaying in the wind.

Lex walked forward and examined it carefully. From the marks on some parts of the skeleton, it appeared that the person had been murdered. On the chest of the skeleton, there were traces of a sharp object having cut through the bone.

Unfortunately, there were no clothes or any items on the white bones, meaning there were no clues to the deceased's identity.

Lex looked around. Since this person was murdered, it meant that besides their group, there might be other people on the island. Soon, Lex found something.

A crude spear, made of a wooden stick and a rusted iron piece, with vines used to secure the two together, creating this 'weapon'.

Very primitive.

If not un-civilized natives, then refugees who had lost everything and were stranded on a deserted island.

After a quick assessment, Lex picked up the spear and casually swept it through the surrounding grass, hoping to find more clues.

When he pushed aside a patch of bushes, he discovered a small path. It was beneath some rocks, concealed by vines and bushes, completely undetectable without pushing them aside.

From the lushness of the bushes, it seemed this path had either not been discovered or hadn't been walked on for a very long time. However, wind blew from within the path, indicating it led to an open area.

Lex, holding a gun in one hand and a spear in the other, cautiously crawled through the bushes and followed the path. After passing the rocks above and turning a corner, he emerged from a patch of weeds, and the view suddenly opened up.

From here, he could see the beach below, Edward and Frank making a fire, Natalie sitting on a blanket spread on the sand reading a book, and Quincy at the Sea, catching fish with his crude harpoon.

To the left, a winding mountain path was obscured by the overgrown grass along the way, making this hidden passage absolutely impossible to spot from the beach.

Lex circled along this passage and came to a cave. Sunlight streamed into the cave from the top, and beams of light prevented it from being dim.

Using these light beams, Lex saw a ruin hidden within this massive cave. Both the collapsed houses and the crude altar indicated that people had once lived here.

Standing at the cave entrance, Lex thought for a moment and decided not to explore.

He planned to come back tomorrow.

After all, it would be dark soon.

And.

He was unprepared. If he wasn't going to bring Quincy and the others, then he should at least take some magical items from the spirit world treasure chest and come back prepared.

A Hunter does not hunt unprepared!
