Chapter 272 - The Wrathful Spirit Attacks

Lex knew this girl. He had seen her yesterday in the ticket hall at Bansi Port when he arrived at Damir Port, and she had curiously looked him over. Lex remembered she had two male companions, but now they were nowhere to be seen. The girl's clothes and shoes were covered in mud and grass, making it seem as though she had just returned from a primeval forest.

On the Sea, many Adventurers would venture deep into colonial islands, heading into various remote primeval forests to search for abandoned or forgotten temples and altars, places that often held gold and jewels offered in ancient times.

If one was lucky enough to stumble upon such a place, getting rich overnight was not uncommon.

However, those places harbored many dangers, and not a few Adventurers had lost their lives in those ruins.

It seemed this girl had clearly encountered some trouble; perhaps her two companions had already died.

No one in the restaurant responded to the girl. Lex, instead, called a waiter and looked at the menu.

Since one chose to become an Adventurer, one naturally had to be prepared to lose one's life for wealth. Similar incidents played out almost daily on the Sea.

Especially since this girl had clearly encountered some kind of danger, anyone wanting to respond would first have to weigh their own capabilities and whether they could bear the risk.

Clearly, everyone in the restaurant felt they weren't capable enough.

Lex, on the other hand, had an appointment with pirates that evening and didn't want any unexpected complications.

The girl's eyes showed undisguised disappointment. She swayed as she pushed open the door and then ran towards another restaurant.

After dinner, Lex arrived at 'Flying Fish and Wine.' When he pushed open the door, the sounds inside suddenly quieted. Then, as he walked towards the bar, people deliberately lowered their voices.

A female Bartender was on duty tonight. She had probably heard about Lex's incident yesterday. Seeing him, this Bartender, whose collar was open, generously revealing a expanse of white chest, asked with some trepidation: "Sir, would you like a beer?"

Lex nodded: "How much?"

"6 pence."

Lex paid promptly. Just as he took a sip, he saw someone in the corner waving at him. It was Archie, the Second Mate of the pirates who had stopped him at the herb shop alley during the day.

"My name is Archie. I still don't know what to call you?"

"Rayleigh."

Lex's lips curved into a smile: "When do we set sail?"

Archie raised his glass: "We leave after this drink."

A single drink naturally didn't take much time, so soon, Lex had arrived at the dock. While Archie wasn't paying attention, he dropped a small mirror into a pile of debris beside the dock.

He had bought the mirror from a street vendor on his way to the bar. He had bought all the reflective items on that stall that could reflect things.

"We have to travel a stretch of water. You know, our ship isn't convenient for entering the port." Archie jumped into a small boat and skillfully pulled in the mooring rope.

When Lex got on the boat, he threw another small mirror into the water, letting it sink.

"I hope your ship isn't too far from here." Lex said with a smile. This was true; he planned to drop mirrors along the way. If anything went wrong, he could use these mirrors, and the Wraith's ability to leap between mirrors, to quickly return to Damir Port.

"Not far, don't worry." Archie rowed the oars. "In fact, Damir Port is a mixed bag of Dragons and snakes. As long as we're not too flashy, we usually won't attract attention."

Recalling the 'liveliness' of the port, Lex nodded almost imperceptibly and said: "I think so too."

Just as Archie said, it wasn't long before Lex saw a sailing ship. It was bathed in the red moonlight, with firelight and human voices on board, and even the music of a seven-stringed zither. It seemed the pirates were entertaining themselves on the ship.

"That's the Blood Shark, our ship!" Archie introduced to Lex with a proud tone.

After they boarded the deck, the pirates had just finished some kind of entertainment and each went into the cabins, with only the watchmen remaining on deck.

Lex was led to the Captain's Cabin. Archie said: "Our Captain should be enjoying himself with a lady right now. Wait here, I'll go get someone."

"Alright." Lex smiled and sat down. After the door closed, the smile vanished from his face.

He waited for about a minute, confirming that the Captain wouldn't come to see him so quickly, then stood up: "We can start."

The staff of resentment lifted slightly. Lex softly uttered in Hermes: "Wraith."

His body, his clothes, all his belongings suddenly became almost transparent. Looking into a nearby mirror, Lex saw his pale face and two quietly burning black flames in his eye sockets.

He grinned: "Tonight, the Wraith attacks."

As he spoke, a cloud of dark green mist spread from between his hands, slowly expanding and filling the sealed space.

After releasing 'Corrosive Mist,' Lex immediately passed through the wall, disappearing from sight, and drifted through the pirate ship.

He quickly heard sounds.

Two pirates were huddled together, chatting about something. Lex appeared silently beside them. Besides feeling a little cold, they didn't notice the presence of the Wraith beside them.

"I wonder when the boss will go to Bayam. It's been so long since I've been to the Red Theater. I really miss the women there." A rather plump pirate said generously.

The other chuckled: "You were with a pair of sisters just two days ago, and after you were done, you threw them into the Sea. If you want women so badly, then don't kill them."

"What do you know? Women are the kind of thing you get tired of after one time."

The fat pirate suddenly froze, then pulled out the dagger at his waist, abruptly pouncing on his companion and plunging the knife into the other's heart.

"You... what are you doing?"

"I don't know either, it's not me, it's not me..." The fat pirate had just finished speaking when he saw himself reverse the dagger, the tip against his throat, and fiercely stab it in.

Then pulled it out.

As a fountain of blood spurted from the pirate's neck, Lex emerged from his body. Killing two evil pirates, he felt no psychological burden at all.

He drifted through the ship like this, quietly killing one pirate after another using forced possession.

On the Blood Shark, the lights were still bright, but the living were decreasing at an alarming rate.

When Lex was in the kitchen, possessing a pirate and controlling him to strangle himself, he suddenly felt a surge of inspiration. Then he heard the door being kicked open with a thud, and a loud voice called out.

"Barrel, get me something to eat."

A pirate with downturned eyes walked in. He stroked his stubble-covered chin and saw the ship's 'cook,' Barrel, strangling himself, rolling his eyes, and falling to the ground.

The pirate with downturned eyes froze for a moment, then very alertly ran out. Lex, in his invisible state, opened his mouth and let out a shriek inaudible to humans. The running pirate with downturned eyes felt a buzzing in his head, as if he had been struck hard with an iron rod. He felt his ears ringing, clearly hearing no sound, yet feeling as if he had suffered an indescribable Wraith Shriek impact.

This was a Wraith's ability!
