Chapter 312 - Helper

Accustomed to the gloom of the confessional, Lex heard the sound of waves crashing on the shore not far away, and perhaps influenced by the atmosphere here, his mood became calm and gentle.

Lex took off his storm emblem and handed it to the Bishop through the gap in the partition.

"Someone is after me. They just set up a not-very-threatening ambush at the Fire Dragon Bar, but I believe this is just a prelude."

"Experience tells me that there is definitely more than one person, and their strength should not be too weak. And I have no companions. I'm taking the Green Emerald to Bayam at 5 PM, and I think they will launch an attack during the journey on the ship."

"I need help, companions, or bodyguards."

"Hmm, at least Sequence 7, the higher the strength, the better. I can pay in pounds. If there are any special requests, they can also be made. If I can afford it, I will certainly not be stingy."

The Bishop behind the partition was silent for a few seconds, then handed the storm emblem back: "You go back to the Fire Dragon Bar. If someone is willing to accept this commission, they will contact you before you board the ship."

"That person is definitely capable of handling your problem, but he charges a hefty fee, at least no less than a thousand pounds."

A thousand pounds?

This is definitely a powerful high-Sequence Beyonder!

"No problem, compared to life, a thousand pounds is simply too cheap." Lex, accidentally revealing his nouveau riche nature, took off his hat, placed it on his chest, bowed slightly, put on his storm emblem again, and left the Church.

As soon as he left the Storm Church, he took off the storm emblem. He didn't wander the streets and quickly returned to the Fire Dragon Bar.

Pushing open the heavy door of the bar, Lex looked around and found a relatively quiet corner by the window. Most importantly, this position allowed him to directly see the direction of the main entrance without any obstruction. If anyone came in, he would see them immediately.

Ordering a glass of beer, Lex took out a gold coin and let the cute little thing move back and forth between his fingers. He waited patiently, and time passed by little by little.

Soon, the time on his pocket watch had reached 4:28.

Having prepared for the possibility that the commission would not be answered, Lex was about to get up and head to the dock when he suddenly heard someone behind him say: "I'm from Reef Church. You stay seated and don't move. No matter what incredible things you hear, don't show any abnormality, otherwise, I won't accept this commission."

Lex was startled.

When did the other person get behind him?

I've been staring at the door for a long time. Is he a Beyonder who can become invisible? The voice is male, so it can't be a 'Witch'. Could it be the 'Secret Supplicant' pathway? Military information shows that a Sequence 7 'Cultivator' of this pathway can blend into shadows and move within the shadow range.

"Okay." Without much hesitation, Lex immediately responded.

The man chuckled softly. The voice sounded familiar to Lex, as if he had heard it somewhere before. Then he heard the person behind him say: "First, let's discuss the price. I heard from Bishop Your Excellency that you are going to Bayam. In that case, I will need to protect you for at least four days."

"Three hundred pounds a day, no bargaining, no bank transfers. I only accept cash."

Lex picked up his wooden beer mug to cover himself: "No problem."

A soft sigh came from behind: "Damn it, you look like you're at most Sequence 7, but you agreed so readily. Can you tell me the secret to making money, Duke?"

Lex almost spat out his beer. Immediately, he finally remembered where he had heard that voice.

That voice full of 'poverty' implication.

"Mr. Richard?" Lex controlled his emotions, his movements, and the urge to look back, lowering his voice to test.

"That's right, it's me, a musician wandering around, pursuing higher attainments. After several months of wandering, I actually met an old friend again. This is like a plot that only happens in a third-rate novel, but I never expected to stumble upon it." The person behind him chuckled and sighed.

It really was Richard.

The musician in Tingen City, in the Hunter Club, who introduced Lex to a Beyonder gathering and then wanted to pawn off his ex-lover to Lex!

"How are you here?" Lex asked, somewhat surprised.

Sitting behind Lex, Richard, wearing a semi-tall top hat, smiled: "I wanted to ask you that too, but I guess you won't tell me truthfully, and I don't want to pry into a friend's true thoughts."

"Otherwise, let's not continue this topic."

"Let's talk about the people who are after you, shall we? Do you know how many there are and what kind of people they are?"

Lex put down his beer glass and looked out the window: "There will be at least four, maybe more. However, the three who have already been exposed are just ordinary people, or low-Sequence Beyonder, and they shouldn't appear again."

"Then have you considered that after their ambush failed at the bar, they won't try to harm you again? In that case, hiring me would be a complete waste of money."

"No, they will continue."

Lex said with certainty: "The ambush at the bar was just a test, which means the other party is a cautious person. Through this test, he will know that I am only one person, just a 'Pyromaniac'. A Sequence 7 is not a particularly difficult Beyonder to deal with, especially since I am alone. If it were me, and I had already invested something, I would definitely not give up at this point."

"As for what pathway of Beyonder they are, I don't know. Precisely because I don't know how many people there will be, or what pathway of Beyonder they will be, I sought help from the Storm Church."

"I didn't expect you to have connections with the Storm Church as well."

Richard chuckled: "I have more or less connections with the Three Great Churches. You should understand that relying on them sometimes makes things much more convenient. Especially since I have some troubles of my own."

"Alright, anyway. You will definitely be targeted on your way to Bayam, that's enough. You still board the ship alone, just pretend I never appeared. If I find anything, I will notify you."

"Okay."

After speaking, Lex didn't hear Richard speak again. Five minutes later, he called the Bartender to pay, and using the action of getting up, he gently looked back.

Two gentlemen were sitting at the table behind him, talking loudly, seemingly unaware that Richard had just been sitting at their table.

How strange.

What pathway of Beyonder is Richard? He can come and go freely under everyone's eyes without attracting any attention. I had already activated my Spiritual Vision, but I didn't feel anything unusual, yet he just left like that.

Also, I didn't use the 'Duke's' face, but Richard very confidently called out 'Duke'. This shows that he didn't identify my identity through my face.

Then what was he relying on to make his judgment?

Build? Body language? Habitual movements?

If it's these, then Richard should be an 'Spectator' pathway Beyonder.

If he's an Spectator, he should easily spot those who want to harm me, right?

Lex walked out of the bar and headed towards the dock. It was almost 5 o'clock, and in the distance, clouds like flames accumulated on the sea. The sea breeze blew, invigorating Lex's spirit.

Alright, help has been found. I need to pay 300 pounds a day. To dare to charge this price, Richard is at least Sequence 6, or even Sequence 5.

Speaking of which, would a Sequence 5 person be short of money?
