"Did the… did the moon just…?" Caelum shook his head with disbelief, backing up as if that was going to help with anything.
Across the field, I spotted some figures rising off the sands.
The vampires.
They cackled, lifting their arms into the air as they stared mockingly at Azrael.
"Would you look at that, Azrael?!" Ishmael barked, his voice cracking through the air like thunder. "Even after everything you weren't able to stop the inevitable. Mother has returned. And she's going to rain her vengeance on you and your pathetic—"
"Skip the boring monologue, Ishmael." The voice that interrupted him was feminine and from the angle of the other vampires.
I frowned as all heads swerved to the voice's owner—a gorgeous woman donned in a black silk abaya, her wavy black hair whipping around her.
Even from this distance I could sense the boredom she emanated. The restraint.
