Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: The Day God Turned Silent

Just as Michael and Mercy had taken only a few steps toward the monitor room, they heard the sound of a girl moaning from inside. It sounded as if someone was having extremely passionate sex with her. Hearing those strange, unsettling sounds, Michael and Mercy froze in their tracks. Mercy looked toward Michael and, through gestures, asked if he was hearing the same thing she was. Michael nodded in response and continued moving cautiously toward the monitor room.

Reaching the door, Michael slowly pushed it open and glanced inside—and the sight before him made his eyes go wide in utter shock. When Mercy saw Michael stunned like that, she leaned in and whispered, "Michael, what happened? Why do you look so shocked? What did you see?" And saying this, she stepped forward and abruptly pushed the door fully open.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, Claire, Stephnie, and Lily had already arrived at the NYPD headquarters. As they stepped out of the car, Stephnie said, "Listen, one of us has to stay down here."

"But why? Let all three of us go meet Harper," Claire said while closing the car door.

"Claire, first of all, going inside a cell to meet a criminal like this is illegal unless you're a lawyer. And even if permission is granted, only two people can go in. So one of us would have to wait outside anyway. I think you both should go meet Harper, and I'll stay here and wait," Stephnie explained to her two friends.

Agreeing with Stephnie, Claire and Lily went inside to meet Harper, while Stephnie remained in the car, waiting for them and reviewing the case details on her laptop. As soon as Claire and Lily entered, they saw Sophia already there waiting for them.

"Where were you both? I've been waiting for so long," Sophia said the moment she spotted them.

"What happened, Sophia? Is something serious going on? And where is Harper?" Claire asked as she hurried toward her.

"Lily, check your phone. I've called you so many times. I didn't have Claire or Stephnie's numbers, so I kept trying to reach you," Sophia said, looking at Lily.

Hearing that, Lily immediately reached into her purse, took out her phone, and checked it.

"Sorry, Sophia. I don't know how my phone switched to silent mode—and you have eight missed calls on it," Lily said apologetically.

"What happened, Sophia? Tell us clearly," Claire asked, irritation rising in her voice.

"Claire… Harper isn't here anymore. Just ten minutes ago, one of her school teachers came and bailed her out," Sophia informed her.

"But I told you—no matter what happens, don't let Harper leave the headquarters! Her life is in danger. Then why did you let her go?" Claire shouted.

"Claire, calm down and lower your voice," Sophia said sharply. "Just because I'm being friendly with you all doesn't mean you get to disrespect me. You're forgetting that I'm a detective—and you're standing inside the NYPD headquarters."

Hearing Sophia's tone, Claire immediately realized that the way she had spoken to her was wrong. Sophia was a government officer and had to follow rules and regulations. So Claire apologized at once for her behavior.

"Look, I tried everything I could to keep Harper here. I even told her you all wanted to meet her, but she still refused to stay or talk to you. She left with that teacher anyway. If you want, I can track down his address and give it to you," Sophia said, handing Claire a bottle of water.

Claire looked at Lily. Both of them had no idea what to do next—when suddenly, a loud explosion shook the entire building. Along with all the officers, Claire and Lily rushed to the window to see what the sound was. At that moment, an officer ran in, calling Sophia and urgently asking her to follow him somewhere. As Sophia hurried out, Claire and Lily followed her.

Just then, Stephnie approached them and said, "A car crashed a little further down the road. It's really bad—and I think the driver died on the spot."

"Who told you that?" Sophia asked as she walked toward the accident site.

"No one… I just overheard some people talking as they walked from that direction," Stephnie replied, making a confused face. Then they all headed toward the crash site together.

But Stephnie was surprised to see Claire and Lily so quiet. Both were walking in silence, not saying a single word.

"What happened to you two? Why are you so quiet? Did you meet Harper?" Stephnie asked while walking.

Hearing her question, both girls lowered their heads. Then Claire finally replied, "Harper isn't here. We took too long to reach, and her teacher already took her."

"What? When?? Why didn't you stop her?" Stephnie asked in shock.

"I just said—she left before we even reached here," Claire repeated firmly.

Talking like this, they all reached the accident site. A police officer stepped forward and stopped everyone except the police from getting too close. Meanwhile, Sophia began walking toward the crashed vehicle.

"Ma'am, the girl driving the car was around seventeen or eighteen. She was speeding, lost control, and crashed. Her face is severely damaged—we can't even identify her. But we did find a school ID card. I'll bring it to you right away," the officer said before heading toward the forensic expert who had all the collected evidence.

Meanwhile, Sophia had reached the crashed car and began examining the interior. But the moment her gaze fell on the driver, the color drained from her face in fear. She saw that the girl in the driver's seat was wearing the exact same clothes Harper had been wearing when she left the headquarters—and the school bag was identical too. Seeing this, Sophia immediately asked her officer to show her the ID card, and when he brought it, Sophia froze in place like a statue.

"What happened, Detective? Is everything okay? Is the driver alright?" Claire asked, noticing Sophia's distressed expression.

Hearing her voice, Sophia glanced at Claire and her two friends, then slowly started walking toward them.

"What just happened to Sophia? Why is she behaving so weirdly?" Stephnie whispered to her friends.

"I think the driver died… and seeing the body must have shaken her mentally," Lily said, sharing her guess.

A moment later, Sophia reached the Ghost Mentors team and said, "Claire… you were right. I shouldn't have let Harper leave the headquarters."

Claire's face tightened in shock. "Why are you saying that, Sophia? What happened? And who was the driver of that car?"

Instead of answering, Sophia placed the school ID card into Claire's hands and said, "Harper was driving that car… and she's no longer alive."

Hearing this, the Ghost Mentors team stood stunned, unable to form a single word. Claire looked down at the ID card in her trembling hands, then at the crashed vehicle, around which blood was splattered in every direction.

"Listen, all three of you go home right now. I'll come meet you at your place. If anyone sees you here, it could create a new issue," Sophia instructed gently.

Accepting her words quietly, the three girls walked toward the parking lot where Stephnie had left the car. All three were silent, saying nothing. They had tried so hard to save Harper from the curse, but perhaps the Postcard Game curse had already decided that on this date, it would take Harper's soul with it. The girls got into the car and drove home without a word, then sat together in the hall, waiting for Sophia.

Meanwhile, at the LAPD headquarters, the moment Mercy pushed the door open forcefully and stepped inside, she saw the police chief completely naked, clinging to a female officer. Both sat on a chair, having sex.

Michael walked up beside Mercy and whispered into her ear, "That spirit is either trying to play with us and divert our minds so it can attack… or it's trying to show us something."

Hearing this, Mercy stopped and remained at the doorway with Michael, watching the scene inside. But with every passing second, the intimacy between the police chief and the female officer intensified, and moments later, the police chief pulled the female officer onto his lap on the chair—both of them reaching the climax of their act.

"Adam, when are you going to marry me? We've been having sex almost every day in the office for the past two years, but you still haven't told me when you'll marry me. Do you even know that my husband is starting to suspect me now?" the female police officer asked the Police Chief.

"Look, Leslie! Don't forget that it's not just you, but I am also married, and if you are cheating on your husband, then I am also cheating on my wife. Tell me one thing, did I ask you to have sex with me? It was you who came to my room in the hotel and had sex with me when we went to California to attend the conference, and today you are blaming everything on me," the Police Chief, whose name was Adam, said, getting angry at the female police officer.

"Yes, I know I made a mistake at that time, and I couldn't control my physical urges, and I spent that night with you, but the next morning I apologized to you for it and told you not to have sex again, but it was you who started having sex with me every day after that. You know that ever since I started having a physical relationship with you, I haven't allowed my husband to be intimate with me either, and now you are making excuses about marrying me," the female police officer, Leslie, said, grabbing the collar of Police Chief Adam.

However, the Police Chief did not like Leslie's behavior, and he delivered a resounding slap to Leslie, which made Leslie fall right there. After that, the Police Chief continued to kick Leslie repeatedly, one after the other, which left Leslie's entire body bloody. Leslie kept pleading with the Police Chief to spare her, but the Police Chief did not stop.

"Please, for God's sake, stop, Adam, don't hit my stomach. The sign of our love is growing in my stomach, Adam," Leslie said, joining both hands and begging Adam for her life.

But as soon as the Police Chief learned that Leslie had become a mother from the illicit physical relationship that had blossomed between the Police Chief and Leslie, the Police Chief's anger reached its peak, and he started coming out of the monitor room. Seeing him coming towards the door, Mercy and Michael both moved away from the doorway.

The Police Chief came out of the monitor room and went near the prisoners' cells and said to the prisoners present there, "If you people do one job for me, I promise that as long as you are in jail, I will not let you lack anything in terms of luxury."

Hearing this from the Police Chief, every prisoner present there was ready to do the Police Chief's job. Then the Police Chief asked all of them to rape the female officer. As soon as the Police Chief said this, 15 prisoners locked in the cell rushed into the monitor room. As soon as the monitor room door opened again and all the prisoners rushed into the monitor room, everything went silent for a moment... like the absolute silence of death.

Inside, the female officer who was currently lying on the floor, dragged herself back one step—her breathing was fast, and the fear in her eyes was so deep that it felt like her soul was trembling. Her hands were clinging to her uniform, completely dry. She was cursing herself in her mind that she had betrayed her husband's love and trust for such a despicable man who had thrown her to be a morsel for these lust-hungry dogs, but she could not do anything now. The Police Chief was standing at the doorway right where Michael and Mercy were standing a little while ago.

The very next moment—dhad!A violent crash echoed through the corridor. Then came the screams. Screams so raw, so jagged, that they cut through the air like knives. The first one was small— as if someone was trying to hold their pain together but failing.

The second was louder. The third even more. And then a wave of voices—pain, terror, chaos—until something heavy toppled over. A table.Glass shattered.Footsteps pounded.A brief struggle.

And then…a silence so sharp it stabbed the ears.

Michael and Mercy stood frozen in the corridor, staring at each other through wet eyes. Mercy's voice trembled as she whispered, "Michael… can't we do anything?"

Michael quickly wiped the moisture from his eyes. "No, Mercy. We cannot interfere with the timeline. Everything you're seeing happened years ago. But today… today I finally understand just how monstrous humans can be."

Michael and Mercy, who were themselves from hell, had their souls weeping at that moment because of Leslie's pain. But on the other side, the Chief, for whom Leslie had betrayed her husband and ruined her happy family, was laughing loudly at Leslie's condition. Leslie repeatedly screamed, begging the Police Chief to stop the prisoners, but the Police Chief just stood there and laughed loudly as if he were watching an online pornographic film.

The nightmare went on for nearly twenty, maybe twenty-five minutes. Michael and Mercy watched helplessly as the sounds drained from the room, little by little, until nothing recognizable remained.

Now, the officer's screams coming from inside were no longer able to form words—

All that could be heard now were only fading breaths… muffled sounds of crying… and a thin, restless, faint call.

At some point, it seemed as if someone had snatched away all the courage of that lady police officer.

One prisoner came out and said to the Police Chief, "Chief, as you instructed, our work is done. The girl was amazing; by indulging in pleasure with a girl like her, it felt like paradise for all of us."

Hearing the prisoner's words, the Police Chief told all the prisoners to go back to their cells and then went near Leslie, who was lying naked and half-unconscious on the floor. She was bleeding excessively from her entire body, as well as from her vagina. The Police Chief gestured for her to get up, only to make Leslie realize her own condition.

But Leslie's breaths were now failing, she had suffered a miscarriage, and she could no longer move. Her eyes were empty, as if the light inside her had been extinguished. There was a tremor on her lips, as if she wanted to say something... but her tongue failed her.

In the very next moment, Leslie's breathing stopped right there, but her eyes were still open and fixed on the Police Chief. Even after death, the tears flowing from Leslie's eyes had not yet ceased. The echo of her screams in the corridor could still be heard.

Michael and Mercy were rooted to the spot, turned into statues by the heartbreaking sight, and they couldn't understand why God had not tried to stop what had just happened. Because what happened to Leslie was the consequence of her actions, but for what reason was the child in Leslie's womb punished?

But in the very next moment, all those things vanished from the monitor room, and now all that remained there were some broken computer monitors and dark, switched-off LED screens.
