Chapter 9 - Rage

No one disobeys that voice. My stomach dropped. I looked at him, unsure. Why Shahr had turned furious so suddenly. He was perfectly fine moments ago.

"Why were you in the knight's arms?" He asked.

It hit me. I finally understood the reason behind his anger.

"ANSWER ME." He roared. I flinched.

"I was about to fall, so the knight caught me before I hit the ground." I gestured hurriedly.

Shahr stayed silent, jaw clenching, eyes burning.

"Are you upset? Did I do something to make you upset?" I asked.

He stayed silent. He kept going back and forth, until he walked in front of a wall, and abruptly slammed his fist into the wall.

I flinched, tears streamed down my cheeks instantly, the memories of the past came flashing before my eyes.

"Sob... Sob."

My sobbing reached him. He turned his head and walked towards, my heart tightened, I assumed he would beat me. I knew I shouldn't have felt something for him.

"Please, don't beat me." I gestured with trembling hands, hoping he would listen to my plea, even though my parents never listened to me.

He froze, his raging eyes softened. He came closer, his hands raised, and brushed my cheeks, I braced myself for the slap.

Instead. Cupping my face with his hands, "Please, don't cry. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." He muttered, calm, gentle voice.

His soft voice assured me that I wouldn't be beaten. I slowly raised my eyelids and met his eyes, filled with care, compassion for me.

"Did I upset you?" I gestured, "I'm sorry."

His eyes showed remorse, "Oh, Alyshia. You are so sweet, even though I scared you, you are still apologizing. Well, you didn't do anything, it's my fault for getting angry without any reason."

Lips pouted, I stared at him angrily, all that drama for nothing?

"Hump, I won't talk to you ever again." I turned away.

He scoffed, his hand patted my head, "Sorry, sorry. Apologies, my dear, wifey." Said Shahr, tugging his own ears in apology.

I almost fainted, my stomach felt ticklish, he called me wifey? If I were alone, I would have danced on the bed.

I signed, puffing my cheeks, "I'm still angry." I wanted him to coax me more.

"Hmm... What do I need to do for my wifey, so that she will forgive me?" He asked.

Rolling me eyes, I said, "Teach me the sword."

"What? You want to learn sword?" He asked being surprised by what I said.

I nodded my head agressively, "I have also become interested after hearing your explanations."

That was lie, it was true that I loved his explanations, but sword learning, I don't think I can do that. Besides, I don't think Shahr would let me do that.

No husband would want his wife swing the sword after marriage. I only said it as a joke.

"Okay."

Shahr's reply made me stunned.

"I think it would be good for your self defense too." He said. If he had refused, that would have felt more natural but his acceptance seemed unnatural to me.

My eyes almost popped up from staring at him with such wide eyes.

"I'll teach you the sword tomorrow morning, so be ready and... Sorry, for not protecting you." Turned Shahr and left. His remorse felt too heavy for what had happened.

Was it such a big deal? Things happen, he can't always be there to protect me.

-Shahr's pov-

"Duke... Please calm down."

"..."

When I came back and saw Alyshia in someone else's arms, it upset me, it definitely did. She is my prey, how can she be in someone's arms? No one touches what's mine.

But that's not what enraged me. When my eyes averted to the knight who was holding her in his arms, I saw...

I saw his dirty eyes scanning her from head to toe, as if he was thinking of doing something...

"Malvin, did the knight not know who she is?" I asked.

Malvin who stood before me, gulped loudly.

"Duke... Duke." He came crawling to me, bawling his eyes, held my legs, pleaded, "Please, duke. Let me go, don't kill me. I'm sorry, I forgot my place."

Igrabbed his chin, "How dare you eye my prey? She is mine, only mine. No one can eye her except me, so how dare you?" I gritted my teeth.

"Please forgive me, Duke, the Duchess is so beautiful that I lost my sen-" he bit his tounge before he could complete the sentence.

My blood boiled, nostrils flared up, chest going up and down, "Malvin, lock him in the underground, dont give him any food." I turned my gaze to Malvin, "if you defy me, you know the consequences."

Malvin gulped again and nodded his head, "I understand, Duke."

As I headed towards the entrance, I asked "Did you find the information?"

"Yes, I have completed the task." Answered Malvin.

My eyes shot up in happiness, now I can finally know about my prey's past, "Tell me."

"The Duchess-" he paused.

I stared at him furiously, my eyes warned him, if he took another second he would lose his life.

"The Duchess, was abused by her family. When she was born, her father refused to accept her and accused her mother of cheating, because the Duchess was born mute. Then he abandoned them, gave them, no attention, no care, no education. He then proceeded to marry again which resulted to the Duchess being physically abused."

"Anything else?" I asked.

"Umm, a servant from the count's house told me this, it's a bit funny, but apparently everyone in the count's house thought that you had send the marriage proposal for her sister Layla." Added Malvin.

My eyebrows furrowed, "Why would I send a marriage proposal for Layla? I don't even know her."

"They must have assumed that you fell for lady Layla after seeing her somewhere," Malvin replied.

"Malvin. Prepare to go to my in-laws house. I'll take them through the seven wonders of hell."
