Caden's POV
"You're lying."
I say it before Dante can finish explaining. Before Isla can fall apart. Someone needs to keep their head, and it sure isn't going to be the Alpha who destroyed her.
Dante's face twists with rage. "Why would I lie about my daughter being kidnapped?"
"To stop the bond restoration. To buy time. To manipulate Isla again." I stand, putting myself between him and her hospital bed. "You've done it before."
"Caden—" Isla's voice wavers.
"He shows up with some convenient story right before you're about to save Kieran?" I don't take my eyes off Dante. "Right when you've finally got him backed into a corner? This is manipulation. Classic narcissist behavior."
Dante pulls out his phone. Shoves it in my face.
The photo makes my blood freeze.
Lyra. Tied to a chair. Tears on her face. Behind her, I can see Marcus—Dante's supposedly loyal Beta—holding a silver knife.
"Still think I'm lying?" Dante's voice breaks.
