Chapter 2 - THE ORPHAN

The pain was real. It is time to start a new life. After all she has gone through, she never thought that she would soon finally leave to a new country, finally leave her birth country, her home to a strange land.

Kelly stood on the streets looking at the familiar environment.

This was somewhere she grow up in, somewhere she'd cherish.

Leaving all this behind would be so sad. She thought about how her mother and father died in a car accident when she was just twelve years old. How her world had shattered because she became an orphan in just one night. No relative took her in, they all abandoned and left her to fend for herself. They took everything away from her: her parents' money, house, clothes, business, and her dignity.

She could remember the fateful day when she was walking in the streets begging passersby for food. She was tattered, hungry, and her hair was deranged.

And then she saw Mrs. Ann, an old widow who took her in and from that day on became a companion and caretaker.

Mrs Ann was the lonely widow who was rich but had no children. She took Kelly in and gave her food, shelter and a friend. But the problem was Mrs Ann had cancer and was always under treatment. Kelly stayed with her through this tiring time. When she lost her hair Kelly was there. When she went for chemo Kelly was there. When she needed anything Kelly was there. Kelly became her shadow, her confidant, and best friend.

Mrs Ann was not just a friend but she was a mother figure

Eight years now Kelly was 20 and Mrs Ann finally passed away from her cancer leaving Kelly all alone in the world with nowhere to start from and nothing to do.

The house was lonely Kelly could hear the echo of her house whenever she spoke Once again she was an orphan with nowhere to go.

Mrs Ann lawyers came some few days ago and told kelly her last wish, for her body to be taken back to Mexico her home town and buried there and Kelly was the one to take her body there:

She was to meet up with Mrs Ann's nephew Philip at a port and together they where to journey together to Mexico where she will be laid to rest

Philip had stayed in Mexico all his life so she had never met him in person but had heard a lot about him from Mrs Ann.

Kelly knew that Mexico was somewhere Mrs Ann loved a lot She has always talked about the beautiful country, about its people and about everything.

Kelly has always been intrigued to go there So being the one to take Mrs Ann's body to Mexico was very good At least this would ease the pain that she was feeling And also maybe just maybe she could start a new lifethere.

A car honk brought Kelly back to the present as she realized she has been standing in the middle of the road lost in thought with rain dripping down her body Her tears have mixed with the rain.

Sorry! She shouted as she ran across and walked towards the shipping port where She was to meet Captain Jack and discuss payment for moving Mrs Ann's body back to Mexico.

"Hello Captain I'm Kelly"

''Oh! The little miss who wants to hire my service'' replied Captain Jack

'' My ships carry cargoes only and not a casket A casket is no cargo miss, For us to carry this casket you have to pay a lot Pay a lot of money''

''What do you mean?'' Said Kelly looking skeptical

''We will only take gold 1000 gold coins And then we would carry her''

'' Gold coin? Do you think this is the Middle Ages where things are paid for with gold?'' Kelly asked with a slight smile

'' Of course not But then I know you have gold 1000 gold coin Or else we won't be taking this'' captain Jake said with his crooked smile

Well Mrs Ann was rich So Kelly knew she could afford it.

Anything to make Mrs Ann comfortable

So she said ''no problem''

''Then miss We will leave in two days time, We will dock at the Puerto Rica port first And then from there We will go straight to Mexico''

Kelly thanked him Walking back inside the rain And went back home Two days time Just two days time And then she would leave this cold house.

This lonely house Whereby wherever she walked She saw Mrs Ann's laughter.

Cancer had really done her bad But then she promised to fight.

Promised to fight for Mrs Ann And live a good life
