Chapter 42 - Black Bolt’s Decision

Black Bolt could be considered a tragic hero.

He possessed a terrifying power—his voice could unleash destructive force beyond imagination—yet it was an unintentional murmur in his sleep that killed his own parents.

Honestly, if it were Shen He in his place, he couldn't imagine how a man could go on living after killing his wife with nothing more than a whisper in his dreams.

Because of that impression, Shen He felt a bit of sympathy for this king of the Inhumans.

"Queen Medusa, there are many protectors on Earth. We are only one group among them, so we know things ordinary people don't."

Shen He didn't go into detail. After a short pause, he continued,"We understand why the Inhumans migrated to the Moon to avoid conflict, and we have no intention of interfering. But the Inhumans can't stay hidden forever. If someday you are willing to stand again before the eyes of the people of Earth, I believe we would be happy to help build a bridge of communication between you."

After deciding to establish Chaldea, Shen He was no longer inclined to act aloof the way he used to.

Otherwise, he would be no different from S.H.I.E.L.D., the Ancient One's mage association, or even Asgard.

Showing kindness to potential friends, and strength to potential enemies—that was the best way to establish an organization's standing.

On the other end of the communicator, there was a brief silence. Only after a moment did Medusa's voice return:

"His Majesty says he is grateful for your goodwill, and he hopes to leave a method of contact."

"If you ever wish to reach us, just look for a businessman on Earth named Tony Stark. He's very famous—easy to find."

Shen He handed the communicator back to Crystal. If he could gain Black Bolt's friendship, he would feel even more confident about his future New York battle plan. After all, Black Bolt had enough destructive power to wipe an entire city off the map. And a king who valued friendship was a rare species; people who understood gratitude were exactly the sort of people Shen He would gladly help.

Crystal whispered a few words to her elder sister Medusa, then shot a provocative glance at Ryougi Shiki before respectfully saluting Shen He and leaving.

Shen He had Jeanne help treat the big dog, then looked at Shiki with a faint smile.

"Looks like you two got along quite well."

"Do you need your eyes checked?" Shiki answered sharply, unhappy with his teasing. "Besides, you all came back empty-handed. Didn't you leave full of confidence, saying you'd definitely find him?"

"Searching for someone always depends on God's will, no matter how well you prepare." Shen He shrugged both hands. "Even though we have Jeanne, it seems God didn't answer her prayers today. But you, on the other hand—just staying here and trouble comes banging on your door. So tomorrow, you're coming with us to look."

"No. That's boring."

Shiki turned away immediately and went back to her sofa.

Meanwhile, on the Moon—Crystal had returned to the Inhuman city of Attilan, only to be summoned to the royal palace.

Her sister Medusa, her brother-in-law Black Bolt, and the Inhuman strategist Karnak were all gathered there.

"Crystal, tell us everything about the people you met," Medusa said, flame-red hair cascading behind her.

Her ability was the control of her long hair. Among the Inhumans, adults went through Terrigenesis, undergoing genetic transformation and awakening their powers.

After Crystal finished recounting everything, everyone fell silent.

Crystal's ability was by no means weak within the Inhuman race—yet she had been subdued effortlessly. Even her identity had been recognized at a glance.

Black Bolt, who looked every bit a dignified gentleman, stood with his hands folded before him. Suddenly, he raised his hands and signed a series of gestures.

"They know who we are and where we live, but they haven't reported it to the humans on Earth," Medusa translated as usual. "His Majesty believes we can attempt contact with them. What they said is correct—Earth is changing. Sooner or later they will find us. We must prepare for that day."

Black Bolt had long noticed that the bloodlines the Inhumans left on Earth had recently begun awakening their dormant genes.

But humans had always feared what they didn't understand. They had begun capturing those who shared the Inhumans' lineage.

That weighed heavily on him.

"Then… who should we send?" Karnak asked.

Black Bolt thought for a moment, then pointed toward Crystal.

While the Inhumans were changing because of this unexpected encounter, Shen He had already thrown the matter aside and was preparing to spend his first night in the Arctic.

Although the aircraft was luxurious, it was still a medium-sized plane with no proper beds. Other than Saiki Kusuo, who went back to his own world to rest, everyone else had no choice but to sleep on the sofas.

Though "settle" wasn't the right word—the plush seats practically swallowed a person whole. The warm air, and the faint fragrance in the cabin, made Shen He extremely comfortable and he slept soundly.

When he woke up, the blizzard outside had finally stopped.

"Jeanne, you're up this early?"

Shen He yawned and checked his watch—it was only around five or six in the morning.

"Yes… the bed—the sofa was too soft," Jeanne said, embarrassed. "It was like sleeping on clouds. I kept feeling like I would fall through them the moment I relaxed. I barely slept at all. But it won't affect my condition. I'm a Servant—it's fine even if I don't sleep."

As she spoke, she kept sneaking glances at Shen He, relieved that he wasn't laughing at her.

To lose sleep because the bed was too good—she felt a little useless.

But up to now, the most comfortable thing she had ever slept on was a pile of hay. This was understandable.

"You'll just have to get used to it."

Shen He couldn't do anything for her. He couldn't exactly go find her some hay.

He summoned Saiki Kusuo, left a note for the still-sleeping Shiki, and headed out again with the group.

The sky was still dim, but without the blizzard their visibility was much better. They continued searching from where they left off yesterday—after all, Shen He had no idea how deep Captain America had been buried in the original story.

But just as they were about to begin, a big dog and a blonde girl suddenly appeared before them.

"Crystal?" Shen He blinked.

It seemed that Black Bolt was even more eager than he expected.

"Hi, are you looking for something?" Crystal asked, slightly nervous.

"Yes. We're looking for a hero who was frozen more than seventy years ago," Shen He replied with a nod.

"In that case… I might be able to help." Crystal exhaled in relief."I come here often to practice my abilities. I think I know what you're looking for."
