Chapter 47 - Vengeance Begins

Seventy years…

Rogers struggled to digest this information. Only now did he realize—he had never asked how long he'd actually been asleep.

"I think… I want to go to the real world first." Rogers looked toward Shen He.

In truth, from the moment he woke up, he had already felt something off about his body—but he had assumed it was simply the after-effects of being unconscious for so long.

After all, virtual reality was something unimaginable for a soldier from an era before computers existed.

"No problem." Shen He nodded.

In the blink of an eye, their consciousnesses sank back into darkness. Then, as though waking from a long sleep, they opened their eyes in a daze.

Shen He took off his helmet and immediately saw Violet leaning over the bedside, staring at him with big eyes.

"Alright, be good. Just wait a little." Shen He knew exactly why Violet had come looking for him.

On the other side, Rogers also sat up from the bed, examining his surroundings.

A clean room. Precision instruments. Everything was unfamiliar. The only familiar thing was the sensation of his own body.

"Welcome to the world seventy years later, Mr. Rogers." Shen He walked over, holding Violet's hand.

"She…" Rogers looked at the little girl who had left such a deep impression on him in the virtual world.

"She is exactly what you know her to be—our companion. Jeanne as well."Shen He affectionately ruffled Violet's hair, then turned to Rogers. "I've already explained it. This is a private company in New York, the American branch of Chaldea. Everything I told you in the virtual reality was true. Including what I said about Ms. Carter."

"Carter…" Rogers remembered. "You said her health wasn't good… Can I go see her?"

After the buffer period inside the virtual reality, he had more or less accepted this change—as well as the fact that he had slept for a very long time.

Despite his title as Captain America, his actual age was still that of someone in his twenties. His ability to accept new things was not weak—if anything, it was quite strong.

"No one here will restrict your freedom." Shen He paused before adding, "But you need to be careful of Hydra outside."

"Sounds like I have quite a lot to learn." Rogers stood up."What should I call you—sir, or boss?"

"Just call me Shen, or He. Either is fine." Shen He smiled. "I still have some matters to handle. Someone will arrange your accommodations and what you need to know. There might even be a welcome party. But, Steve… you won't have much time to adapt to this new era. The battles ahead will be more complicated—and more difficult—than anything you've experienced."

"I'll do my best." Rogers' expression showed nothing.

Shen He only smiled and said no more. Holding Violet's hand, he left the room—only to notice Fury had followed as well.

"What's wrong? Don't you want to say something to the soldier you admire so much?" Shen He didn't slow his steps.

"Everything that needed to be said, you've already said." Fury's gaze locked onto him. "You understand us even more than I expected. Now you've got the best soldier in the world. I want to know—are you planning to form a hero team? Or a combat unit that belongs solely to Chaldea?"

"You people are always like this." Shen He shook his head slowly. "Going on and on about threats, threats—like a paranoid lunatic. Yet in reality, the greatest threat to everyone is precisely such a lunatic."

"This is just a matter of identity and standpoint." Fury clearly wasn't letting this go. "I trust Rogers. I trust Tony. I even trust the Hulk—because they are Earthlings. When Earth is in danger, they will stand up to protect it.

"But you—your group doesn't just protect Earth. You interfere in other worlds as well."

Shen He had been in this world for nearly two months.

From the first day, they had drawn Fury's attention.

By now, Fury had formed a rough outline of Chaldea in his mind:an extraterrestrial, mysterious, massive organization—publicly claiming to safeguard human order, yet secretly observing everything. And Earth was merely one of the worlds they monitored.

"If you have time to worry about that, why not go think about how to deal with your old boss?" Shen He directly issued an eviction order.

Trying to gain Fury's trust was like pressing a warm face against a cold backside. Even from an organizational standpoint, S.H.I.E.L.D. was hardly a trustworthy institution.

So even though he was already preparing to move against Hydra, Shen He had no intention of bringing Fury's people in. God knows if they'd suddenly try something foolish and sabotage the plan.

Violet had come to discuss the plan with Shen He, and Lelouch—now in possession of the Geass—had already been summoned.

Shen He reached his own room, opened the door, and found all his Servants inside.

"You're too slow, Shen He." Ryougi Shiki leaned against the wall by the door.

"Sorry, the test took longer than expected."Shen He walked to the bed, picked up a metal case, and handed it to Lelouch."Before we begin, Lelouch—this is a gift I'm giving to Nunnally."

Lelouch took the metal case and opened it. Inside were two small, exquisitely crafted leg braces.

"I asked Tony to design assisted prosthetics. He said they can sense neurons. Nunnally should be able to walk on her own after wearing them.Make sure you tell her they're from a big brother named Shen He."Shen He said teasingly.

Although he couldn't visit the worlds of his Servants, nor could they bring special items out from their worlds, he could send things with them—like pudding for Saiki Kusuo. He could send as much as he wanted.

"Thank you." Lelouch put away the prosthetics.

If Nunnally learned she could stand up—she would definitely be overjoyed.

"Also…" Shen He hesitated for a moment before asking, "You didn't kill your brother Clovis, did you?"

He hadn't told Lelouch everything—not about his mother not truly being dead. But he had explained that Clovis, the Third Prince who Lelouch shot in episode three, had actually come to Area 11 as Governor in order to search for him and Nunnally. The prince's death was truly a pitiable one.

"…No," Lelouch shook his head. "I didn't let him see my face. Having an idiot as the Governor makes things easier anyway."

"That's good."Shen He let out a small breath of relief."We don't show mercy to enemies—but that's only so the people we care about, and the people who care about us, can live better. Otherwise, all battle loses its meaning.

"Lelouch—tell me your strategy. Hydra being the enemy is already beyond doubt."
