Skye vented for a while on her own.
But she wasn't someone who gave up that easily. She decided to keep doing what she could—such as uncovering more truths that S.H.I.E.L.D. had hidden…
And then exposing them to the public.
Ding-dong.
The sound of a message on her phone.
"Skye, you've been discovered by S.H.I.E.L.D."
"—!?"
Skye stared in shock at the text message signed zero.
She didn't even have time to think before another message came:
"They've already arrived. You have to leave your location immediately."
Skye shuddered, grabbed her laptop in a rush, and instinctively tried to gather some clothes and essentials.
"Take nothing except your laptop. There's no time."
"Why is this happening!?"
Only now did Skye release a panicked cry.
But as someone bold enough to hack the government, she had mentally prepared for this day long ago. She obeyed without hesitation, clutching her laptop and phone as she bolted out the door.
This was a rundown apartment in an alley—there wasn't even an elevator.
"Take the left staircase. There are people coming up the right."
The moment Skye read the message, three muscular men in black suits turned the corner on the right side of the hallway.
"Target spotted! The target is attempting to flee!"The three charged toward her the second they saw her.
Skye spun around and ran left. At this point, there was no doubt she was being hunted.
"Go down two floors and enter the hallway."
The instructions continued, guiding her escape with uncanny precision.
Even without the texts, she had no other choice—several more black-suited agents were rushing up the stairs from below.
"Enter the third apartment unit and lock the door."
Skye did as told, only to find it was a vacant unit… a dead end.
"Please—what do I do now?"
She gripped her phone tightly, terrified the next message might not come.
She didn't know exactly what S.H.I.E.L.D. would do to her if she were caught—but she knew it would be bad. Very bad. Just the charge of endangering national security could put her away for life.
"Open the kitchen window. Jump."
"What!?"Skye almost thought she misread it. "This is the fourth floor!"
"Now!"
This message contained only a single word.
At the same time, heavy gunfire slammed into the door. The agents chose the most brutal method of entry.
Gritting her teeth, Skye clutched her laptop and ran to the kitchen. She threw open the window—and saw a garbage truck parked directly below, piled high with black trash bags.
Just like in the movies.
The instant Skye leapt, a squad of black-suited agents kicked down the door with guns raised.
"Sir, the target may have an accomplice."
The apparent squad leader quickly spotted the truck's location, but all he could see was the garbage truck disappearing down the alley.
"Capture her."
A brief command came through their comms.
Even though this was only the capture of a hacker girl, the severity of the situation prompted them to dispatch an elite team of more than ten field agents—direct S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives. They hadn't even informed the police, just to avoid leaks.
And yet someone still managed to warn the target in advance and even arrange an escape.
Anyone could smell the scent of a major clue.
"Understood!"
The agents turned to leave.
A tall, slim young man was already standing at the doorway.
"Command."The young man slowly waved his hand, a red bird-like sigil shining in his left eye."Capture your target at all costs. Life or death irrelevant. Collateral irrelevant."
"Yes!"
All the agents filed past him and out of the building.
"Master, I've relayed the order on my end."Lelouch sent the message to Shen He through his earpiece.
"Good work. Leave there as soon as you can," Shen He exhaled slightly.
Lelouch's part was the hardest—he needed to command as many agents as possible, and even with Saiki Kusuo helping from the shadows, finding an opportunity without leaving traces was difficult.
"Steve, where are you now?" Shen He contacted Captain America next.
"I'm on the street already. What's my mission?"
Steve was wearing nothing but a plain white T-shirt as he walked down the street. No uniform, no shield—no passerby could have guessed this handsome, muscular young man was the Captain America from seventy years ago.
"Your mission is very simple," Shen He said calmly."Stop a group of rampaging agents from hurting people. Don't worry—Saiki will be assisting you quietly."
Saiki Kusuo was the safeguard preventing civilian casualties and ensuring the plan stayed on track.
"Rampaging agents?"
The person who asked this was Coulson, standing in front of Shen He.
"Our agents don't rampage," Coulson said, already guessing part of Shen He's plan, though he couldn't fathom how he intended to execute it. "Even if they're Hydra infiltrators, as long as they're still in their dormant period, they're still fully trained S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives."
"But they're rampaging now," Shen He spread his hands, meeting Coulson's gaze seriously."I'll be direct—what I'm doing is extremely simple. S.H.I.E.L.D. is the villain of this stage play. Steve is the hero. The hero defeats the villain, the world gives him thunderous applause, and the curtain falls perfectly."
This idea had already taken shape the moment he decided to take revenge on Hydra.
Hydra had been embedded in S.H.I.E.L.D. for so many years. What they did wasn't just infiltration—their ideologies had quietly merged.
Back then, Red Skull wanted to use the Tesseract to forge weapons to conquer and rule Earth. Now, Director Fury wanted to use the Tesseract to forge weapons to protect Earth.
But in the end, if Fury truly succeeded, Shen He believed the result wouldn't be much different from what Red Skull sought.
Both pursued greater power and control.
"So…"Coulson's voice was bitter."The returned Captain America will once again stand for freedom and justice—defeating tyranny and oppression. Right?"
"Yes." Shen He nodded lightly.
The stage play of freedom's victory had already begun.
Several black sedans were chasing a garbage truck down the street. The truck seemed terrified, swerving wildly and dangerously.
Finally, at an intersection, two cars tried to dodge the truck but collided, blocking the road.
Yet the pursuing vehicles didn't slow down—they accelerated, ramming the crashed cars aside. Black-suited agents leaned halfway out the windows, aiming their pistols at the garbage truck and firing bang, bang, bang.
"Ahhh—!"
The sudden gunfire sent nearby pedestrians screaming.
Cars crashed one after another, and with the agents ignoring everything as they rammed through and fired recklessly, the street descended into chaos. People scattered in all directions. The garbage truck flipped in one violent collision.
The driver's eyes lost the red bird-like sigil.
But the agents, weapons raised, got out of their now-blocked cars and rushed toward the overturned truck expressionlessly.
Skye struggled out of the pile of trash. Her phone displayed only one final message from zero:
"Run!"
